But this isn't counter strike, you need to have really good aim in order to compensate for how purposeless a man who sits in the back is. On top of this a sniper is by design something that is gimped if it doesn't have none snipers between it and the enemy.

Because of this if a sniper is bad he is really bad, and if you have more than a couple snipers then neither they nor the rest of the team can really do something. Therefore snipers get hate.

I get that, hell I like snipers too. I can see they have a purpose, or at least should in db, but the problem is exactly as you say. A good sniper can disrupt the enemy team, and (to a lesser extent now) keep the dead ones dead.

The problem is, most people aren't good snipers. And even if someone has good aim, that isn't necessarily enough.

For every game I see a full greasy team of Vaseline stomp mine because we have no idea what is going on, and they're omniscient, there are tens if not hundreds more, where one team has what is effectively an empty slot at the bottom of their scoreboard.


So I suppose the question is. If a buff need be given, how could it be done, to encourage team play, to what is so often not a team player?

I used to play Kira mostly and I'm good with her. I even play her on Underground. The thing people really underestimate about her is her speed...they can know she's fast but even then you see her and by the time you do you're already at half or less health. And the smart ones know just who to target...someone alone gets burned down quickly, or if you're distracted by another player then catch this 3 round burst to the dome, etc. Adapt and keep movin. Work smart not hard.

I'm not always sure how to use speed as an advantage. Which kind of bothers me since I only play fast mercs.

I think the only time I really noticed speed was when spawning with skyhammer to trash an EV because the time from spawn to action at that speed was SUFFERING.
And on underground right after game start as cda, with sneaky aura shotgun sprinting to right tunnel I regularly get first blood by shooting in the back non-engineers focused on planting on generator.

The beauty of Kira's laser is that you can call it off walls as well as the ground, and other vertical structures as long as there is no impediment between the sky and where the laser will first touch down.

You can be behind a wall and if there are enemies on the other side but a HIGHER wall behind that you can call it down off that wall, and then click the laser to guide it in a path closer to you and it will sweep over them. You don't need to even see the enemy but if they're out and not under cover you can kill them.

Additionally, if you're playing her properly then you let the meatshields take the brunt of the focus while you target behind the enemies focusing on them and then sweep over them. You peek out long enough to get intel, determine a targeting spot and then call it down and guide it.

A common mistake new Kira's make is that they try to guide it around by standing in the open and holding the targeting device out and pointing where they want it to go...when you only need to click once somewhere and it will go to that new spot.

So, lets say you're on Chapel attacking final objective, you get line of sight on the bus and peek out, target the wall behind the bus on right right side to call it down, then once it's down corner peek the rock and one click the laser spotter behind the rock and it will sweep to there. While its traveling you can then corner peek burst fire at an exposed or escaping targets. Of course you have to make sure the coast is clear to your flank when peeking but that's gamesense.

Well she's most effective in pubs and due to the meta not used in comp (rarely if at all)

But you can easily get triples, quads, booms and explodydendrons in pubs using her because pubtards love to bunch up and aren't the most positionally sound.

Another example is in execution on Overground you can use her from the top of the train to stop people from rushing up the back path to A behind site, and on Market you can rush up to middle, laser in front of dank market then if the coast is clear peek through the garage and aim it on the ground on the other side and it will go across the roof, etc. Like I said you have to get creative with it.

Another fun thing is you can call it off the water tower on first objective trainyard (the big white one) and it really helps clearing a camp if they've already closed the track gate. Just run to the closed gate, aim at the wall above the door to the ammo building and then go back and forth with it between that building and the ground in front of the closed gate and you'll catch a few kills while they also have to worry about a flank and the people pushing from the other end of the bridge. Use it to deny entry to the containers on terminal, protect the bomb on underground..etc etc. There's a lot of possibilities there.

Oh and always come from behind the EV on Chapel when disabling it since you'll almost always get a free kill for the engi beind it repairing...just wait til its 99% repaired, call it down, kill him then disable it a bit for some game mode xp. Hopefully an Arty or Skyhammer will finish the job. Arty and Kira together are a great combo.

Play any of the classes with burst rifles other than Fragger, I actually recommend Kira because her low hp threshold and high speed will encourage you to either finish fights quickly or get the fuck out

Once you figure out burst rifles and understanding combat flow, you'll figure out pretty much 2/3 of the entire cast

Already knew that aiming spot, and Arty can clear that spot just as well with a more spammable AoE ability.

The bus drag is neat though, and something only Kira could do properly.

It's a hotfix for bugs. Thunder flashes were very obviously bugged on release, I don't think anyone was denying that. Fixing their behavior to how they're actually intended to work is a priority, then you can balance the numbers. Balancing around bugs is retarded. Thunder is only a few days old so I'm not surprised, I expect him to be further balanced in the coming weeks to adjust to actual live performance, like Redeye was.

Very nice testing though, I wouldn't have the patience to spreadsheet that and it's good to have solid numbers to discuss.

Obviously it didn't play out as the devs intended or they wouldn't have patched it out.
Honestly for crow control abilities there's an exceedingly fine line between useless and oppressive. Making a merc underpowered hurts the game less than making it obscenely overpowered so I'm fine with SD being conservative, it's easier to incrementally buff Thunder than handle again the sea of rage that release Phantom was.
I maintain that what you're doing is good though, I don't necessarily disagree that he deserves buffs.
