What I can say is I just don't see it. I played the prototype and the gameplay was nice but I'm looking at the huge cast of characters and I doubt it can be that complex and interesting long enough for a full length rpg. That, and I doubt they can make a good story over at LZ or at least good dialogue.

so combos can go through up to five stages
the first two stages are like "ok you're comboing, no big deal" stage 1 only happens if you do a jump-in attack so a normal combo from a standing position skips straight to 2
stages 3 and 4 are like "huh, this has been going on for a while maybe I should keep an eye on you" and it tracks every move you use in the combo to refer to later
stage 5 is all "ok this shit has been going on for too long, you really better quit soon" and it will continue to track every move you use AND if you start a chain with a move that has been tracked, then you get the IPS hitsparks and your opponent can burst.

'starting a chain' basically refers to any time you follow up a move with a move that happens earlier in that character's chain (i.e. parasoul uses j.HP and knocks them on the ground, then parasoul lands on the ground and uses c.LK, LK comes way before HP in her chain sequence so it's a new chain)

you advance to the next combo stage every time you start a new chain, jump off the ground, land on the ground, air dash cancel, basically doing anything but using an attack further down that character's chain sequence.

let's take a really basic character who's chain is LP -> MP -> HP, and his HP launches.
so he starts from a standing position and goes LP MP HP, he's in stage 2 because he didn't jump into the attack, he jumps after the HP, triggering an advancement to stage 3 and then goes LP HP in the air, knocking the opponent to the ground. he then lands on the ground, advancing to stage 4. he does another LP HP chain and knocks the opponent in the air again, jumps, triggering the start of stage 5. the IPS started watching on stage 3 and has logged both his ground and air LP and HP, so if he starts any chain with those moves, IPS goes off.

When are they gonna put in a not-Cloud character design in this game who is an amnesiac and a tsundere. He would become Anja's love interest slowly over the course of the game as her heart goes doki doki. The blog listed a little backstory on him and it turns out he was a kind of a proud archer prodigy in his little clan. I pinned him as the type of the guy that's high-spirited and a little cocky, but a little disorientated from all the new places he's seeing. He hasn't interacted with people outside of his nomad group before, so he's still a little awkward in those regards, but otherwise he's very prideful in his skills.

Beyond appearance stuff (which isn't really important), she's a capable fighter who trains her body and mind under the guidance of an older master (but isn't too good at the whole "mind" thing--hence the prayer beads and the falling-asleep-while-meditating picture). She can tap into the power of a bunch of "Incarnations" (similar to Korra having access to the previous Avatars, who she is a re-Incarnation of). She's got crazy god superpowers when she enters a state that most likely also alters her personality/is triggered at a state of heightened emotion. Hmm, the only other one I can think of now being her globe-spanning adventure, but that's more of Aang's thing.

Not saying any of these things are bad necessarily, or even that they got all/any of the ideas directly from Korra--I'm just hopeful that they'll execute all of it better than Bryke.
