you can try EX zappa which has manual summon by orb cost but it just isn't as fun. every ghost has its own way of being broken and having to adapt and change your playstyle immediately keeps you on your toes and his gameplay interesting

well, it's made me disciplined and helped me understand how to practice and work at something without making it stressful or tedious. and that's just counting the single player stuff like general execution, setups, and frame data. it applies doubly for improving my actual gameplay.

You ever see JP arcades and how it's a bunch of middle aged salary men smoking all the damn time? To them (and me) it's a giant stress reliever after dealing with all the inconveniences of work and real life. Also, being able to lose yourself in a game while connecting with another person AND not having to talk? Please. It's too good.

If you're lucky enough to have a local scene, it is convenient to able to discuss the game, argue about how matchups should be played, how to approach problematic situations and how to avoid them etc etc. As a person who has problems trying to deal with small talk and uninteresting topics all the time, locals help wrack your brain develop the skills to convert the abstract knowledge you have about the game into information that can be digested by everyone else.

As for skills, there are a bunch you need to be good in tournament play.

Execution, Reflexes, Knowledge - All basic stuff that's been said before. Can you perform that one frame link in every situation? Do that anti-air DP when it matters? Do you have a textbook plan to approaching your various matchups?

More subtle traits: Tenacity and perseverance that is borderline masochistic.
Attention to small and subtle details: Whether that is frame data or reacting to a whiff punish. Noticing behaviors in your opponent's offensive and defensive habits, so you can adjust and counter those accordingly (Reads and psychic DPs are all the result of recognizing these situations).
Nerves: If you're into tournament play, you're going to encounter these eventually. Have you developed the composure to never drop those DP punishes at the 1-1 final round situation? Can you comeback from a 10% life deficit while your opponent still has a full bar and full meter?
