Give the characters more individually-focused backstories and sidequests. Additionally, give them room to actually react and deal with things that come their way (I get that Mikleo isn't a very open person and I'm not saying him clamping down is out of character, but for fuck's sake he should have broken like three times over. All that "I'm fine" should have been turned around eventually).

Aside from that, I'd say that just fleshing out what was there already would make a world of difference. Foreshadow and explain Dezel's whole deal better. Better cover the whole "oath" thing or better explain HOW Sorey came to the conclusion about how to handle Maotelus.

So what's with the manga? Apparently it condenses things a good bit and changes a lot of details up but I can't find anything in English. Is it any good?

So I just kind of noticed that in Vesperia, any time you get into a battle against severely underleveled enemies, Rita begins with a taunt. She seems like the only one who does this. At least, I haven't noticed the others do this.

It was really bullshit. Dezel broke 2 rules (the secondary lord can't break the pact and you can't armatize without being a secondary lord) at the same time and they didn't even bother explaining it properly. Having prepared Rose isn't a satisfying justification.

It changes some details and gives the characters a little more development, with more reactions towards some things, like Edna and and the fight between Sorey and Mikleo at the start of the game. Plus, the manga adaptation for the Alisha Story gives Maltran a little backstory and some scenes with Alisha as a kid.

It is difficult to find the raws, we only have the first 6 chapters for now in chinese scanlation. There is a group translating the chapters but they only did it until chapter 4 because it seems there aren't many people doing it in first place. Last time I saw a post by the person doing the translation, they were asking for more people to help.

I could make one for vesperia since that one is actually pretty hard to setup since it involves things like hex editing your save file and grinding out boatloads of things.

I'll admit, there were a couple times I got extremely lost. The worse time is when I had to take the boat ride up north near Kohaku and Hisui's hometown and I couldn't find the right boat for the life of me.

This was my first Tales game I beat (after briefly trying Innocence DS) and I had a lot of fun with the combat system. Beryl was my favorite character.

I don't think Japs are that big on skin colors. There's all kinds of brown characters who get light skin in fan art though my only guess is because it's what they're used to? Gaius isn't that dark anyways. Too light to be brown but a tan too dark to be light skinned.

I know Tales always has some crazy final act after the kinda final boss, but Vesperia should have ended with Alexi, then dealing with the Adaphagos(I forget the spelling) and Duke being a tsun tsun ally or dies having faith in assisting Yuri.

I dug the fact the empire was pretty corrupt and full of bastards committing crimes against humanity, the Yuri and Flynn dynamic, oh hey Raven is kind of a traitor delivering Estelle to Alexei, LeBlanc and his "YURIIIII LOWEEELLL" "Whelp, gotta run", really most of the first two parts honestly. You could cut out a big focus on blastia and still have most of the story, and have the final part focus more on the corrupt empire. I mean, it seemed like a large portion of the council was corrupt, but after Ragou gets waxed we don't really hear anything else about them beyond they decided to support Ioder instead. Really, the story would have been much better if the empire became the main focus over the blastia, even though it wouldn't have apocalyptic implications, but quite frankly "the end of the world" is played so much in jrpgs that it's kind of lost its significance. I always thought the P4 got as big as it did was because it just felt like it was a more small scale, localized event.

Personally, I wish they would just move on from Zestiria. I'm a huge fan of Tales games, but this one isn't sitting well with me. The battle system is all over the place, the camera is beyond worth saving and I haven't really clicked with any of the characters. I'm hoping at the very least Berseria can make up for this, but who knows at the point.

What's confusing about it? Made perfect sense to me. It's spoilers since it takes place after the main story. You can play it any time though, even without having touched the main story at all. Your equips, items, and funds will just be from a preset. The GE2 DLC is not yet released but it's good that this announcement basically ensures that we'll be getting it. You get extra monsters to fight, and the warning probably means you can't fight those monsters as long as you're playing the DLC content.

The only thing wrong with it is when it talks about Alisha's answer. The game itself hates her, and the DLC didn't do much changing that around.

You got those who hate Luke and dropped it 3 hours in because it didn't have a Graces tier cast and whine about everyone's personalities. I think the idea of a review in itself is a bad idea. The reason it works for some individuals is because it's 1 person's take on their experience and they may or may not go all out and explain how the viewer or reader may feel. Coming from a group it's too cluttered and the finishing product will have all kinda of mixed opinions leaving even more questions. Every single thread someone asks what to play, and every single time someone will say Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Destiny, Xillia. And then someone will argue muh ps3 Vesperia, or complain about the gameplay/story, and then there's usually that 1 person saying they don't have a ps3.

It's old and predictable.

Honestly, as bad as this sounds, I think Xillia is a fairly good introduction to the series. We shitpost and say people unironically enjoy the gameplay and story, but I think that's because if you aren't at all familiar with the series, the story that pretty much just slams a bunch of plot elements from older Tales games together, and they wouldn't notice flaws in the gameplay. Xillia was my first Tales game, and I loved it, but I went on to play Graces f, Xillia 2, Hearts R, Symphonia, Vesperia, Zestiria, and Abyss, and Xillia has become disappointing in retrospect.

I'd get to the older games like Phantasia or Destiny but I worry it will feel too dated. That was probably my one problem with playing Symphonia when I did, it felt like the gameplay hadn't aged well. I like free running.

Phantasia and Destiny are like entirely different games though because they aren't 3D, they don't feel dated as much as just a wholly different style of gameplay.

Tales began on the "linear motion battle system", which in 2D games was actually linear. In 3D games like symphonia, you moved in 1 straight line but there were multiple lines with each character occupying them.

With Abyss and freerunning, it actually deviated from the LMBS into something else.

Symphonia is just in an awkward place where it is in 3D and you think of it having a combat system like later 3D games but it has a combat system closer to the 2D games instead.

With the 2D games the expectations of it behaving like a newer game is gone.

I wonder if in the future people will see Vesperia as a dated game because it does not have an A artes/B artes system.

I heard that about the older games. My main concern is if I'll like the fact it's true linear motion, I guess that'd be a better way of putting my concern.

I don't think Vesperia will feel dated. I actually played the PS3 version simultaneously as I played Zestiria. The only thing I thought was combat was initially clunky, but that was more an effect of figuring out the nuances of the combat. The whole A/B arte system has only really been in Zestiria, Graces, and one of the older ones, I forget which, iirc. Granted, that's two of the last 4, with one of the other two being essentially a cut and paste version of the other with minor tweaks. If Berseria follows similarly with an A/B arte system I might say otherwise though. But even so, arte mechanics and movement style are pretty different, and I think movement is much more difficult to adjust to.

If Berseria does use A artes and B artes, I really hope it doesn't put the restrictions Zestiria had on combos. Yeah, some people may say endless combos is broken, and really, kind of is when you could pull off 1000 hit combos in Vesperia without too much difficulty. But long combos in Zestiria, to me at least, seemed more like a benefit of longer grace periods before a combo breaks than actual skill, timing, and rhythm. Combos in Vesperia felt like they got disrupted very easily if you messed up once, but if you git gud that wasn't a problem.

Maybe that's me though.

Neat, so after PCfags got to play Zestiria is it still considered the worst Tales game or were people just overreacting about the whole Alisha thing? Because I just started playing it and while it's not bad I have two issues with it
1. Combat is even slower than Graces
2. I can't believe someone played this with this fucking camera and said "Yes, this is good, pring this thing"
Also Jesus Christ, every scene they are in Alisha and Sorey are shipped HARD

the Alisha thing is pretty bad but it was blown out of proportion. they should have focused on its gameplay issues instead of the Alisha thing.

also just a heads up but if you ship that the game is just going to piss you off so you should probably quit while you're ahead.
