Thieves are built to stay the hell out of a fight unless they have the upper hand, usually through Blind application and stealth.

Rangers have better HP, but they're built to either be naturally evasive (trait lines with huge energy management, or built-in evades in combat [Sword 1, Greatsword 1]) or have their pet do the tanking for them.

Engineers can stand there and take it to the chin really well. There's a reason bunker engies were so reviled in PvP for, like, forever.

One of the things I enjoy the most is leveling a completely new profession from scratch, getting to know it's mechanics, the good, the bad and the ugly of each -- It's a very fun experience.

But after getting to the 5 character mark, I ran out of slots, so I thought to myself "Just grind some gold, buy another slot, make a guardian or something". But gold is so incredibly hard to come by, and to be honest the fun of discovering a new profession can only last so long, I only have 3 left to go.

So I am in this very obnoxious place that HoT is not cutting it for me anymore, fractals are subpar, I don't have the time for raiding and most raiding groups are just full of enraged folks that can't take in wipes.

I just want to have fun again /gw2g/, I'm even trying to fit more diverse games in my gaming time to see if I'm not just burned out of the game, but it's not helping.

Please, help me rekindle the flame.

Why do raids have to be so stupid?

First boss takes a couple attempts but can be easily beaten if you call out greens and blues and have about 4 heralds and chrono for max might + timewarps.

The second boss requires an enormous fucking amount of DPS to beat it.

As for the third one, I never tried it yet, I got nowhere close to killing the second boss.

VG is just a mechanic based fight, and you can get by w/ making errors/having a non-optimal group comp. Same goes for Sabetha, both fights have room for errors & are mechanic-based.

Gorseval is definitely the harder of the 3. that DPS check is hard to overcome for most people.

I'd say take a break up to a week, much longer and you'll likely quit. When you come back I suggest picking your favorite character and sticking to them for a while.
Don't obsess so much with fractals, try going for achievements maybe? Try to block out things you don't like and you might enjoy yourself if that doesn't go against your personal beliefs or something

Breakbar up? Use CCs to whittle it down, leading to a stun once you remove it fully. Then you wait for it to refill before using CCs again
Doesn't actually let you use the CCs effects, though- Fear doesn't actually fear the monster, nor does Chill slow it down. Just deals break damage to the bar.

I kinda need more exp and mf boosts because I'm down to my last (a single heroic booster), but at the same time, every time I've done a key run lately I've gotten a useless booster (attack/run speed/regen etc).

And the chance of tickets/ticket scraps, I've built up a lot of my wealth in this game by investing in BL skins and then waiting a long ass time before putting them up for sale.

Chrono shield is good thanks to alacrity reducing cooldowns and catching tides of time lowering its cooldown. It's decent support and CC.

Problem with shield on most classes is the long cooldowns.

Rev you can use offhand sword and have a 2s long block stance on a 12 second cooldown and you can move around on it, but if you use a shield you get a 3s long block stance on a 25s long cooldown, and you can't move.

Warrior shield block is also a 25s cd for 3s block stance but you can move.

That 1 extra second is not worth double the cooldown.

I'd say Guardian shield is actually improved now and is possibly useful except for the fact that it's overshadowed by focus and Bow/Greatsword. They reduced the cooldown on shield of absorption from 40s to 24s which is a huge help and added spreading aegis to shield of judgement.

Chrono shield gives a 2.5s block on a 24second coolldown which sounds as bad as the others except, if you block even 1 attack, as soon as it finishes you can block again, for 5s total blocking, and when you finish those channels it summons a phantasm (so 2 phantasms out at once) that give alacrity (lowring the cooldown to more like 8s if you have perma alacrity) and causing slow on the target. Tides of time is effectively about a 10s cooldown or so with enough alacrity and is a 1s stun, projectile block, and 1.5s of quickness.
