Try a brawler, they're pretty easy and ridiculously fun, though there's not a lot of freedom to make your own build since one of their class trees absolutely sucks while the other turns them into unstoppable death machines who hit a gorillion times per turn.

It's pretty good. More of a weird strategy game though. Strategy comes from what you research, what resources you focus on, etc. Then there's some tower defense layered in since especially later on you'll have to rely on the towers a lot to survive. Only roguelike in the loosest sense (Randomization, permadeath) but it is pretty cool if you like light strategy and tower defense.

The whole Dark Crypt quest to save Melinda is pretty edgy, and then leads into a hamfisted romance plot of all things, culminating in the infamous [kiss her].

Also any of the hidden special events Darkgod himself triggers are rather autistic and randumb. Stuff like the dungeon full of bears, or your character being turned into a rabbit.

The only unlocks I've seen so far are related to monster knowledge (this doesn't make them any easier, you just get some statues in a museum), the library, and the alchemy lab. The last two serve only to start out with some things identified (some scrolls and potions but not all) but you don't have to use them.

swap in. Hopefully, removing it will force players to use tactics against

The second piece of this is creating an amulet of nothing. This is important
for the rest of the reform project, as it will allow unique amulets to have
a base type that doesn't carry any special properties; without this, any time
a change was made to our least-interesting amulet (currently warding), all
the unique amulets that use that type would get a big functionality
change. The amulet of nothing will not spawn normally.

It's too hard to tell which tiles are lit up/in shadows and disabling color effects (which fixes it) is broken on everything but Mac.

Lower floors are too dark and enemies can see you from really far away
The lit up portions of the level that guide you are, well, lit up

+9 hand axe (flame, rF+ Str+4 Int+2 Dex+3)
