>>
>>123768884
The smart move right now is to wait for late 2016 for a new graphics card.

If you want to buy something in the next few months, get an i5 6600, a new main board and 16 GB of DDR4
Then you add an adequate next gen card next year, and you'll be able to at least play in 1440p with GSync or freeync (lolAMD, yeah I kn ow) or with an Oculus.

>there are people who want to spend 30 - 60 minutes repairing a Hornet

The most badly damaged hornet should take no longer than 10 minutes from barely working to "fully" repaired. Less than that time to fix vital equipment so I can leave, so thrusters and jump drive and maybe landing gear. I can't imaging spending 30 minutes waiting for my ship to be fixed, nor 30 minutes fixing simply a fighter craft. That would also imply that a large would take significantly longer than 30 minutes. Fuck that.
>>
>>123770568
30 minutes should be the time for an Idris/Javelin on the verge of exploding being fixed by crucibles.
>>
>>123770007

>>
>>123770568
Did you read the quote

it said 30 minutes with a repair crew of one, meaning some chucklefuck jumping out of one machine, making a slight adjustment then moving onto the other, then repeating. Wasting loads of time.

Then 2-3 minutes for a full repair crew.

Thats fine.
>>
>>123770568
You're forgetting that these times are meant for the final game, where losing your ship or dying would actually matter.
>>
>>123770032
No I tested it, screen shakes if you are accelerating, no matter where you actually are, if you go slow it doesn't happen anymore. The problem is the game is so fucking retarded that when you reach your top velocity your engine still fires and your thrusters fire too to counter that acceleration of your main engine instead of it all just shutting off completely. You can see it in cruise mode pretty good, especially in a hornet. Main Thruster is firering and the smaller ones give counter thrust so you don't exceed your limit and probably because they are so retardedly designed keep you from spinning around.
>>
Lads, what's the difference between the Star Citizen Starter kit and the Aurora MR AC starter? The Aurora MR AC one says "Includes everything you need to play Star Citizen today" But the contents both seem to be the exact same.

Yes.
Just like how back in 2009 the GTX 280 was $300, then the GTX 480 was $600, then the GTX 580 was $900, then the GTX 680 was like $1200, and the 780 was about $1600 and the 980 $2300, so logically Pascal will be about $3000.
This is how the hardware market works. You fucking retard.

>i5 2500k and 8gb DDR3.
Yeah.

That is hardware from 2011. I have the same setup, and it is good enough.

And I'm telling you, the i5 6500 or 6600,16 GB of DDR4 plus a new board is the correct step if you want a hardware upgrade right now.

Buying a graphics card now is retarded.
You can either get a 980, which is relatively expensive but still not enough to really game in 1440p (or 4k, or with a VR setup)
A 970, which equals trolling yourself.
One of the AMD cards, which equals trolling yourself even harder, but instead of paying for heating you can just turn on your PC now.
If you get an air-cooled model, you will also go deaf or have the card constantly throttle back because boy is that AMD reference cooler design shit.

Or you wait for 2016, and buy one of the upcoming cards with actually fast HBM, potentially better nVidida GPUs or non-shit cooler designs from AMD.
>>
>>123773009
DDR4 doesn't make much of a difference in gaming
>>
>>123773009
>a 980, which is relatively expensive but still not enough to really game in 1440p
lel what a retarded statement, a 980's performance is wasted on anything below 1440

>>123773009
If you actually knew anything, you'd tell him to get an i7-5775C or i5-5675C and keep his DDR3/eventually get better RAM.

Those two are the processors with the highest IPCs out there.

I haven't really looked at the alternatives yet, don't know if they're better.

Main problem is the lack of any feedback from SC itself. I made that screen to disable individual missile pylons so you can select what one you're firing, but if you die everything obviously gets thrown out of sync because the program doesn't actually know anything

It's not about being naked, it's just that this is what counterpressure skinsuits that are in development right now look.

There will of course be 'armor plate' like segments to pretoect the suit, in various sizes and forms.

But the basic suit is kept as light and tight as possible.

I'm just fucking with you, friendo. It got hit by the nerf bat pretty hard but it was pretty ridiculously OP to start out with. They may have gone too far but it'll probably even out.

Its not a better fighter than the 325a though, if you were looking to do that.

I wouldn't say the F7C is anything special. Its more of IM mode and gimbals that give it its power.

M50 will probably be good for speedy interdiction but not in a furball. Depends what you want to do.

At that price range? There's no real replacement for the Hornet yet. If you're going for a Hornet, your best option is the Super Hornet, which is going to get some major competition from the Sabre, and already has competition from the Gladiator (which is a fucking stellar gun and missile platform).

The Gladius is currently the best in that range, as the package for the Gladius is slightly more expensive than an M50. The Hornet, though, is definitely at the top of the current fighter food chain due to its accessibility and armor.
>>
>>123798229

Nah

>already has competition from the Gladiator (which is a fucking stellar gun and missile platform).

Except it flies like a fucking freighter.
While every ship got a buff in some way in 2.0 the Gladiator is still a lumbering whale.

Even dropping the S5s in the torp bay gives you a tiny boost.

Also the 'dynamic' speed isn't going to be dynamic forever, your speed will remain the same once you take off.

meaning once you drop the torps in a fight, you won't get any increased speed.

Enjoy flying a brick with subpar weapons loadout and an expensive gimmick.
>>
>>123798104
Origin is definitely the most hated. They're a luxury-less luxury manufacturer. It's like buying a modern Cadillac and ending up with jump seats, metal furnishing, and a purely mechanical instrument panel.

I'm going to hate myself for this, but Aegis has the most ships that I'm looking forward to flying, so I'm going to have to go with Aegis as my most loved.

>>123798408
I put that under "accessibility," but it's my fault for not being specific. Gimbals make things stupid easy to hit, as long as your HUD doesn't vanish on you, which is currently a crap shoot.

>>Also the 'dynamic' speed isn't going to be dynamic forever, your speed will remain the same once you take off.

That doesn't make any sense, anon.

You're telling me I lift off at full load and go 180m/s

Launch everything, go 180m/s

yeah, nah.

The Gladius is actually cheaper than the M50 from the looks of things.

If you're trying to upgrade, yeah, the Gladius is $10 USD cheaper. The 325a will see a balance and update pass eventually, though, so it may turn into what we wanted it to be from the start. On the bright side, at least you didn't "upgrade" your 325a to a Cutlass, as I did. Pic related.

Speaking of Corvettes, what's your Ideal Corvette /scg/?

>about 130m long so that it's relatively nimble
>Turrets with S3 guns
>main STS turret. Smallest of its type.
>large missiles
>ability to refuel a few larger fighters (not as good as Starfarer, but enough to allow escorts to follow along for a while)
>ability to distribute some ammo
>modular rooms

In SC I envision corvettes to be the main ship of many large battlegroups for organizations, so I want them to be self sufficient in that they can bring fighters along, since it won't have a hangar like the Idris when they only need to land to get fuel/ammo. Maybe the corvette can have a fold-out landing pad for this stuff?

>>

>>
>>123801176
The biggest things a Corvette has to do is carry one to two fighters, perhaps docked in a similar way to the Merlin on the Constellation, and be absolutely coated in anti-fighter defenses, perhaps with a torpedo bay for anti-capital usage. The main purpose of the corvette should be fighter cover for larger ships, however.

Modularity is also important, for instance, in turning what used to be turrets into missile and torpedo bays or fighter prep and refueling stations into cargo bays, so you can customize the ship into relevance no matter the mission. Hell, if I wanted to I could start working on floor plans right now, but I doubt anything would come of it except some moderately good theory crafting time in here.

165 meters long

4x S5 Manned Turrets

1x Torpedo Tube (ala Javelin)

2x Size 5 Missile Hardpoints

Small hangar built straight into a rear cargo bay capable of holding and maintaining a single ship up to the size of a Redeemer. Bigger ship equates less cargo space.

A Medbay, a Brig, and an Armory.

Oh, and the ability to use it as a Space U-Boat.
>>
>>123801843
>carrying fighters
No. That was once the idris, and look what happened. This is why I had the idea of giving it the ability to distribute some ammo and fuel instead of having ships land. Maybe, if it HAD to have a hangar, it can hold a squadron of Merlins since those are small as fuck. But a hangar large enough to hold normal fighters would be too much, and it already happened to the Idris turning it into a frigate and gaining more than a hundred meters in length.

>floor plans

Why don't CIG just design good ships, instead of going back 4 times to fix each one?
>>
>>123806538

Probably because the original ships are just hangar models that were built long before component and weapon sizes were determined, and they all need to be built from the ground up to be able to fly and hold all the shit like shield generators and power sources.

You do realize that items in this game have mass and take up space right? As in, the shield generator isn't an invisible value attached to a menu list. It's an actual object in the ship that needs power from a generator? The same goes with weapons, life support, etc. Then there's the fact everything needs to re-done in order to facilitate the recently finalized damage/repair model.

Basically the short answer to your question is that you're a memester from /v/ that needs to shut the hell up.

Gladiator should have be slightly longer than the hornet and almost as wide wing-tip to wing-tip. The gunner should sit behind and slightly above the pilot and use an all-in-one console to control missiles, engineering shit and a remote turret. Behind the gunner should be a tiny space for personal storage and avionics.

The central core of the ship should be two modular slots, one thin one on top and one human-height space beneath.

Lower module options:
- Torpedo bay
- Cargo hold w/ lift
- Living quarters
- Probe bay (or maybe just load these as torpedoes)

Upper module options:
- Remote turret
- EWAR suite
- Tractor beam turret w/ hatch to cargo area

Wings would have quite large, multi-purpose mounts for missiles, sensors and fuel pods. It would have two gimballed S2 guns on the front mounted similar to the Hornet nose turret.

I don't mind the overall style but it's too small and the bubble turret looks fucking retarded.

Now that they have finally accepted that remote turrets are fine, they need to change that back at the very least.

The kind that promised a hangar module where players can walk around and in their ship. If you look back at the release history of the game you'll see a progression from a module-based system to an incrementally updated system. Back in the kickstarter days, and for a couple years after, the game was set to release in modules that would be combined to form the full game. Fast forward a bit and CIG realized this is extremely impractical. Now modules (and the alpha access system based on them) have been abolished and we're moving to a tiny section of the full game and building the rest of the game around it instead.

One of the biggest drawbacks of doing something nobody has ever done before is bumblefucking your way through it until you know what you're doing.
>>
>>123810293
>CIG realized this is extremely impractical.

This.

I have no idea how they expected to release the social module so early on without doing the bulk of the work for FPS or even the PU.
>>
>>123810449
I think the idea at the beginning was to get some money and rip some investors off while not actually developing a real game but then it got so much money and media attention that pocketing some millions and just be forgotten like any other kickstarter project was out of the question and they had to start developing an actual game because the backlash for Chris would have been too big. Would explain why literally nothing happened the first year, they weren't expecting they actually had to develop anything.

So I'm trying to come up with a proper sizing of Corvettes, and I keep landing on the thought that we already have three corvette sized ships: the 890 Jump, the Reclaimer, and the Carrack. The Carrack, however, is the only ship that fits the mold of what a corvette, in a Chris Roberts game, should be. A militarized variant with the drones replaced with missile bays and the lower module slots replaced with hardened turret sections would fit the purpose without having to create a whole new ship around replacing the Idris. This would also give CIG the time to make the frigate that would be in-lore replacing the Idris without worrying about a new corvette to replace the now bloated Idris'.

I wonder if they're getting the same idea?

>I think the idea at the beginning was to get some money and rip some investors off

Maybe you're not aware of this, but Chris Roberts had a decade-long career in movie production. He's not poor and he has money without the need to swindle anyone.

The original plan was for a game on a much smaller scale. In fact, the original plan was to use a million dollars or so to build a prototype that they could present to a publisher. However, the crowdfunding campaign was drawing in so much cash that they just decided to switch to a fully crowdfunded model.

This meant that they basically had to build their own development studio from the ground up. The first two years of this game's development were spent building a game development company literally from the ground up and trying to rig CryEngine to actually work the way they want it to.

Today, there's multiple studios in multiple countries. CIG Santa Monica, CIG Austin, Foundry 42 Wilmslow, and Foundry 42 Frankfurt. The purpose of having teams all over the world is twofold: One, tax benefits. Two, creating the infrastructure necessary to run a world-wide persistent universe as well as a data delivery system to keep it running.

From the outside the development of this game seems disturbingly quiet and uneventful. From a business perspective the entire thing has been both extremely challenging, and extremely successful. The fact that CIG and Roberts have gotten this far is quite impressive considering how many hurdles had to be jumped.

A Carrack-corvette would be a little small, and would need a hell of a lot more firepower. And it would need at least double the current crew, and add the facilities for them.

- Split rover/cargo bay into thirds: one third missile bay, one third docking collar, one third cargo
- Swap scout ship hangar for vertical missile launch cells (hnnng)
- Add turrets to the lower nose and upper rear
- Make all turrets remote turrets with 2x S3/S4 guns and 8x S2/S3 missiles
- Replace big sensor masts with smaller, better protected sensors
- Add a couple of those automatic CIWS turrets we've heard about

This would make the Carrack-corvette absolutely terrifying for fighters. It would be a nice little patrol ship.

Yeah, it wouldn't take much thinking to make the Carrack a beast of a picket ship. We're not sure about how the interior is laid out currently, so there could be a lot more space available for crew than is needed, and so can be tweaked to fit more people. We know there's a machine shop/drone repair station and a medical bay in the main body of the ship. The machine shop could easily be replaced with additional crew space, with the drone launchers replaced with torpedo launchers or missile bays.

I agree, the thing would be an absolute menace to fighters militarized like that.

But the original idea was that the hull as such should be rather cheap, and the difficult part should be equipping your ship with the subsystems you need to really perform.

Which is why everyone who bought an Idris will probably shit a brick when he has to farm the hull's worth of ingame credits to just equip it properly.
>>
>>123814258
>>123814581

Depends on whether CIG offers the ability to get in-game loans like in the Orion mini-game. Upgrading your ship and paying interest on your debt until you collect enough money to pay off the debt completely would be a neat way for players to get new ships fast while risking their character's reputation among financial organizations or loan sharks.

Well, that or you could just steal a ship you want.
>>
>>123814821
>Well, that or you could just steal a ship you want.

Kind of brings a whole other set of issues that may overcome just legitimately buying something, but sure
>>
>>123814486
I own one of those party buses, too. Still has more cargo than a Freelancer.
>>
>>123814105

It doesn't really make sense for Anvil, the new kid on the block who is snatching up military contracts, to develop a highly advanced corvette-sized ship and retail it to the civilian explorer market.

>>123814486

The Carrack is very clearly not a corvette, but it's the right size, with the right tech level, the right manufacturer and roughly the right layout. Ships will be modular, ships will cover multiple roles with these modules.

I would most like to see this as a military-only thing like the F8.

After-market addons to a civilian Carrack would let you do the same role, but not as well as the military version.
>>
i just got me a LTI supreme gentleman's hornet. but fuck i hate having two amd packages on my account. you can't fucking melt them for their actual value. .

>>
>>123815010

>I would most like to see this as a military-only thing like the F8.

I think the community would riot if that were the case. There's so many people salivating over the Corvette despite the fact we don't know anything about it other than its name. It's crazy.
>>
>>123814554
>I'll take Carrack owners over 890J cunts that think a Corvette should cost $800 any day.
So much this.

At least the Carrack has an actual purpose. 890s will just end up as some fat neckbeard's creepy rape dungeon for his android space waifu, anyway.

What a combat-orietned corvette needs is some sort of docking platform that allows a fighter to 'land' on the hull to refuel and resupply.
So no internal hangar, which means docking like this this under fire would probably be very danerous, but it would allow the corvette to take one (or two) fighters along.

I doubt the Carrack would be able to do this, but some kind of ship of roughly that size should be able to have two such 'doking platforms' or whatever you want to call them.
Or maybe this is the worst idea ever, and I am worse than Hitler for posting this here.
>>
This game looks fun as fuck but when I look at the ship's they're like hundreds of dollars, is it viable to play this game and not spend real money outside of the starter pack? Or will I just get btfo by people who drop thousands of dollars?

>>123815930
Currently you can get almost everything in game purely through PvE or even racing, so no. You won't get shit on by wallet warriors.

Just grab something viable and then go into PvP.
>>
>>123815930

> is it viable to play this game and not spend real money outside of the starter pack?

It's viable insofar as you can play the game. Most of the bigger ships and more expensive ships aren't implemented yet, but neither is the in-game economy. Small cheap starter ships that come with the game packages aren't worth much in a PvP fight. When the game gets closer to release we'll be able to earn United Earth Credits and purchase in-game ships with in-game money.
>>
>>123815212

From a balance perspective getting the corvette right is crucial, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly a corvette, because of its size, can be seen as the biggest "multi-crew" ship or the smallest "capital" ship. This is really the interface between small-ish and large-ish, civilian and military.

Second, because of the anti-fighter role we can expect from a corvette it represents a very high level of threat to a fairly large group of players at once. This makes them the core ship for conflict between large organisations of players: operations would be based around either fighters protecting a corvette or corvettes protecting something larger.

>>123815648

The Carrack has a landing bay on the top for a light scout craft. By making it external they could significantly boost the size of the ship allowed.

>>123815930

If you don't like any of the starter options then have a look at the Avenger package. It's a competitive fighter with some cargo space and decent speed.

But not all of SC is about combat. It should be perfectly viable to do safer things in your Aurora until you have the funds to buy a dedicated fighter.

Basically a bunch of people gave CR $100,000,000 by paying to win. Their rationale was "but you can grind it in game" and "what is winning exactly?".

You will never ever be able to beat someone who paid $2,500 for a Javelin destroyer, with a shield generator the size of a warehouse and 25 NPC crew members on dual gun turret mounts, costing approximately $18 each.

You will have a shitty brick-looking starter ship that can get 1-hit by a large capital ship weapon, and will not even be able to wear down their shield sitting in the same place for hours recharging your weapons.

You'll either have to grind for months/years to get a ship that big, and then insure it and hire people to help you run it. Or find an in-game organization and help them get their own Javelin. Or just move on to another game.

It's likely to be dramatically worse.

Cobra takes under 8 hours to acquire. Chris has estimated a "dedicated week" for the Connie. That's probably about 40h

>>123816173

The LN is pretty great, in all honesty. Was better before hornetfags complained about a $35 ship having 4xS2 mounts and two of them got downgraded to S1, but eh, whiners gonna whine I guess.

Still though, it can run cargo, it can defend itself, it's got missiles and the ability to mount a Size 3 shield, it's pretty much the most well rounded "starter" ship available.

Being the best poorfag ship in the game is kinda like being the tallest midget on the basketball team, but still, it'll get the job done and more than likely keep your spaceass in one piece until you save enough shekels to grab something bigger.

I don't have any problem if the grind is worse, the progression isn't linear there is no end game ship, of course you can say that a Javelin is the ship ending all ships but there is a lot of stuff you will not be able to do with it.

Hell, a player could start with a Connie and decide to go for a Freelancer if they wanted because it's not the same ship at all.

GREETINGS SCG.

I have come here to suggest that the Corvette, or A Corvette at least, needs to be made by Drake Interplanetary and needs to be designed as as a Mothership for Search and rescue operation, without actually being a carrier of any sort, as In no capacity to carry fighters internally.

What it should have instead is a whole bunch(say 6) modular bays that can be swapped fairly easily between any number of things such as: Torpedo tubes, More Dakka, More cargo space, External Landing pads for fighters up to cutlass size, or a bay that cocoons a Launch/Shuttle/Boarding Craft. or whatever other "upgrades could be though of to slot into a relatively small standardized space.

Said corvette should be about 150 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 35 meters tall and vaguely resemble the bastard child of pic related.

Further more it should have docking clamps on either its ass so that three or more of said corvettes can join themselves at the ass to form an ad-hoc base putting their vulnerable asses together for protection and shifting shields forward and to the sides. They shouls have Minimall functional crawlers legs akin the the AT-TE so they can accomplish this ground side as well.

Just fuck my idea up Senpai.

The release date is somewhat of a "sore" point, really. It's been used as trolling for as long as /scg/ has been a thing, if my memory's right. It also depends on whether you mean Star Citizen or Squadron 42. Current estimates point to late 2016 to early 2017 for Star Citizen, with some people throwing in their lot to 2018.

The current baby PU is a massive step forward, even with all the crashing and balance issues. We're finally seeing something resembling a shadow of the persistent universe.

Asymmetry is apparently a real bitch to work with when it comes to providing a working physics model, so they made it symmetrical, lost a lot of its charm.

The Caterpillar is still asymmetrical though, so all is not lost as far as the asymmetrical ships go.
>>
>>123853078
It's not symmetric.
Owning it proves your shit taste.

Just kidding, I respect your objectively bad taste.
It's just that the game mechanics for its intended role are not designed yet, and since everything is liekly to go through at least one complete overhaul I generally think it too early to buy such specialized ships.

Is there a real reason why the Reclaimer is an Aegis ship? It fits less with their aesthetic than even the Redeemer, looks like it should be an RSI, or hell maybe even a Drake Interplanetary ship. Doesn't look a thing like the otherwise sleek designs of Aegis Dynamics' ships.

Even the Idris and Javelin have more elegant / less industrial bodies than the Reclaimer.
>>
>>123853860
The rest of the Aegis ships are all military contracted, this is them working an entirely different brief.
>>
>>123852104
This is a very different base style of gameplay then a lot of people are used to. Learning to understand the tactics metagame in zero gravity ship combat will easily give someone a serious edge over most players who will just pick the game up and be like "I'm going to point my guns at this guy and fire until one of us dies".

Just because the flight model changes doesn't mean the things you learn about reading situations and reading your opponent will in any way go to waste.
>>
I'm not sure who the biggest faggots of the SC community is. Those who cry asymmetrical designs, muh-ship-changed faggots, small ships resembling planes oh-no faggots or those joystick controller wannabe elitists faggots. One thing is for sure though. There's plenty to chose from.

>>
>>123854507
Didn't say there wouldn't BE advancement into different hulls.

Just that the entire design philosophy is that every ship has its place, you're not just grinding out the next linear advancement to "the biggest baddest ship". Because that ship has its own large weaknesses too.

The idea that 'half the game' should be doing so is retarded, and not even true. Should be able to have fun in a Cutlass or Hornet the entire time you play the game and just be as viable as someone that ran space meth for a year to buy an Idris-P

Ships come in 7 traditional flavours.
Unrated - 20 guns or less - sloop of war
6th rate - 20 to to 28 - post-ship or frigate
5th rate - 32 to 44 - great frigate
4th rate - 50 to 60 - ship of the line
3rd rate - 64 to 80 - ship of the line
2nd rate - 90 to 98 - ship of the line
1st rate - 100+ - ship of the line

Corvette is just French for post-ship.

Once you ditch the rating system you get the following flavours, which are determined by role - not size.
Patrol torpedo boat - a small vessel with powerful torpedoes designed to menace much larger ships
Patrol boat - a small vessel designed to menace torpedo boats and patrol littoral waters
Corvette - a moderately sized vessel designed for sustained littoral policing, but not really warfare. Seen in use mostly with countries that have long coastlines and small budgets, like Australia
Frigate - any fucking thing you want it to be regardless of size or role because this class of ship is so bastardised it's fucking meaningless
Destroyer - surface-combat ship designed primarily to destroy torpedo boats and other smaller vessels as well as do some light cruising duties occasionally towards the big end of the stick
Cruiser - surface-combat ship designed to be the primary surface combat craft of the navy and handle all of the important duties, like convoy escort or anti-air defence. Typically specialized.
Battlecruiser - a larger, heavier cruiser that is specialized on surface combat
Battleship - a dedicated surface combat ship that uses guns, not missiles
Aircraft carrier - hurr durr

That's basically everything.

Ask yourself "what is this ship supposed to do" and bam there's your answer. Probably you won't be able to give it a class because RSI knows fucking nothing about the navy.

Those definitions were never universal, every nation had their own rating system and obviously they changed constantly anyway. They only work as a snapshot of "at this time, in this country" not as any hard rule of how sailing ships were rated.

Your flavour roles are more on the button.

I wonder just where the hangar doors are eventually going to open up to. for VFG it's a no brainer, but the majority have to actually be on a planet. are they going to build an area similar to the Olisar bunks into every single landing zone where you can have a hangar? will there be different districts for different qualities of hangar? sounds like a lot of work.

I thought it looked better desu senpai, seems odd to have that whole open space and a massive spaceship presided over by one guy. people wandering about makes it look like more than an empty home cell (cell in the game area sense), and even if it's your private space you gotta have techs and shit for a ship that size, realistically.

>>123858619
I realize this and I understand how hangars work, what I'm saying is, when you want to leave the hangar in the finished game you ain't takin the elevator with your ship. that big door is gonna open for you to fly out over the city and break atmo. so what's gonna be on the other side of that door? they have to make a real space in zones like area 18 for example for players to fly out of, much like the berths you start in on port olisar. maybe they'll just be a series of doors in the wall of some skyscraper, but CIG tends to go the extra mile with shit like this.
>>
Everyone getting killed when not securely seated during engaging Quantum-Drive when? Would give some meaning to all the jump seats we have and to the max crew thingy.
>>
>>123858595
Then they can match the hangar size to the ships in them. I don't mind the occasional worker, hired to provide a service but I want my ships parked privately outside the watchful eye of strangers. And we got robots to handle basic stuff so your counter argument got nothing to do with realism.
>>
>>123858750

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-xvCg8CI9U

Taking off and landing in highly populated areas is all computer-controlled, so every ship could look like it was leaving from the same hangar and it wouldn't matter because you won't be interacting with anyone or controlling anything until you left the atmosphere.
>>
>>123858801
yes please. I want connie maintenance to include cleaning the red off the beams in the cargo area and back wall.

>>123858860
that only works if you phase takeoff so you can't see other players and they can't see you, which is fucking weaksauce famili. and you aren't going to be landing on a pad like that, unless you're dropping cargo and leaving again right away ( which will be a very long time from now).
>>
>>123858750
>I realize this and I understand how hangars work, what I'm saying is, when you want to leave the hangar in the finished game you ain't takin the elevator with your ship. that big door is gonna open for you to fly out over the city and break atmo. so what's gonna be on the other side of that door? they have to make a real space in zones like area 18 for example for players to fly out of, much like the berths you start in on port olisar. maybe they'll just be a series of doors in the wall of some skyscraper, but CIG tends to go the extra mile with shit like this.

Instance of the planet landing zone just for you with you autopiloting back to space where you land in an instance with regular people.

Atleast that's what I would do, but I would have done the same on port olisar with a elevator that connects directly to a cabin zone for just you and everyone just spawns into the actual instance through that elevator. All those cabins they build are a huge waste of fucking time.

Also while we are at it: What the fuck is going on with those landing pads? I hope they are just temporary or atleast they will also offer landing bays that are closed and instanced that can be filled with an unlimited amount of ships. Maybe they could have some variance in like
>no (or less) landing fees for landing pads
>higher landing fees for docking bays
It can't stay the way it is right now.

Did anyone try this yet? Does it work?
>>
>>123858075
Post WW2 (actually, post naval treaties), the definitions of what exactly makes a frigate, destroyer or cruiser have essentially disappeared.

Frigates can be as big as destroyers, and cruisers can equal destroyers in tonnage and mission.

Just about the only rule today is 'corvettes are smaller than frigates, destroyers and cruisers'.
Beyond that it pretty much comes down to who built the thing, and wether political climate required a change of definition to get the things funded.

When it comes to SC, CIG should first think about what the fuck they want in terms of ship classes, then wht they want to call it, and then design the ships.
Instead it looks like they just throw out buzzwords to scam furries out of their money.
Which is fine too, I guess.

I never got into area 18 but I can only assume having a single point of entry led to congestion around the elevator and having a huge crowd for no good reason in this random hallway. Just not immersive yo, which is what they're trying to avoid with the Olisar bunks. I think it's a really cool idea, and pretty easy to grunt out given they're all identical, with a little unique set dressing tossed around.
It does sound broken that your ship is just out in the open and you have to get to it first, but if somebody steals it can you not just spawn it again, giving them a self destruct? that's how it should be, at least until they do something like security or private ship berths.

Soz if this has been addressed before, but as someone who hasn't been paying much attention to SC, I have a question: Considering that many ships will be multi-crew, i.e. have roles for/operate optimally when they are fully crewed, how will the game manage roles that are not as engaging as actually flying the ship? Say that you're a radar operator - I can't imagine sitting at a console reading data to be very fun, especially if it's during a period of little conflict. In real life the radar operators sit for hours on end at a computer because it's their job - in games they get bored and leave easily if their interest is not kept up. This problem becomes especially pertinent with large ships that have crews of 10, 20 or more. I can't imagine any ship having so many roles to fill for the crew members that it would feel fulfilling and meaningful. Does the repair technician really have so much to do that it would justify him not being in his own ship, or filling one of the few roles that would seem to actually matter in combat/otherwise?

Another question: Since many roles for multi-crewed ships will undoubtedly be obsolete unless in certain circumstances - the turret man doesn't have much to do when cruising peacefully around in space, nor does the repair technician - how will this downtime be handled? Can players simply pop in and out of ships as they please, even in deep space? What if there is a sudden situation that requires all hands on deck but the majority are logged off at the time because there is nothing to do? I simply can't conceive how multi-crewed ships that are in any way realistic fit within the idea of 'fun' gameplay. It's probably immersive to stare at a screen providing data about nearby asteroids for hours, but not very engaging. Has this issue been addressed by the devs?

Well, I imagine they'll make roles such as radar operator as engaging as possible for a start.

However, there are tasks that may require you to exit your station, such as ad-hoc repairs, repelling boarders, or just walking around.

While yes, I imagine being a gunner while nothing is going on is rather boring, that will probably be fairly boring for the pilot too. This isn't a universe where you'll have a lot of time inbetween events. Short hops place-to-place, plenty of EVA and ship-to-ship encounters.

If someone gets bored, replace them with an NPC and you can have a wingman along in another ship.

People can't just pop into existance on ships either, no. Though there may be some mechanic for logging off in beds.

If you would like the option of customizing your crew, you can create your own NPCs by using a Game Character slot. You will go through the same character creation process as your player character but will then have the option of handing off control to an AI. As an additional bonus, friends can ‘drop in’ to take over these crewmen themselves and to help man your spacecraft when available.

What will happen is that there will be an optimal crew for ships, I don't think being 5 players + 1 at all times in a Connie is smart, you are going to get bored, really fast.

But having a crew of 3 permanent members + 1 can be a better idea. You have two potential radar/comms/maintenance operators, one captain/pilot. Plus one free member able to get the Merlin/Archimedes and able to help on other tasks.

I hope crews will not have to be static entities you have more fun while being dynamic and reacting to what happen around you.

That concept got no meaning yet no matter how much some fags insist. Last we heard from Chris, range was just a measure for how many system jumps (not quantum jumps) you could make.
>>
>>123867065
Theres literally a fuel system in Quantum travel right now.

a VANGUARD is described as being able to strike at a system's distance. Thats long range.

>>123866871
Not necessarily. Just lose some of the Gladius' retardo missile loadout.

Once the tanks are empty (or perhaps dropped) you'll gain back that manouverability.
>>
>>123867154
That just means it can do 2-3 system jumps unlike a Hornet that can probably only do 1 before needing refueling. Even if they use the same fuel for quantum speed we got no indication that a short range fighter will be handicapped flying around within a single system. So much speculation though...

headtracking has been around for like a decade and all the programs can output to a compatible format even if trackir tries to copyright it. Locking games to one HMD is just jew behavior. It's really not complicated what they're doing even if they implement it differently.
>>
>>123867343
there will be a limited number of refueling stations unless you have an org set up with a starfarer or something

probably in sq42 the sabre will go on deep missions into vanduul territory. Sounds pretty fun to me. (Maybe the Behind Enemy Lines sequel)
>>
>>123867374
Headtracking, like TrackIR, is pretty different to VR systems anon.

I own both. They behave and make you feel/interact differently.

>>123867343
Quantum fuel usage is entirely defined by distance travelled.

2-3 jumps is more like Jump fuel through JPs

I just told you an indication of a short range fighter being handicapped travelling around a system. If a Vanguard is super-long range and its combat radius (there, fight, back again) is one system, its unlikely a short-range fighter is going to be able to do the same thing anon, is it
>>
>>123867364
Buy either of them in game later, there will be millions of both ships available, and cheaply too, since they're old surplus. The Avenger has more opportunities for diversified tasks when you start the game, though.
>>
>>123867552
>Quantum fuel usage is entirely defined by distance travelled.
And without you knowing the relation between normal q travel and jumping that is a pointless observation in this context.
>>
>>123867660
If you can only travel across part of a system before running out of fuel, having multiple JPs worth of jump fuel is entirely pointless

because you won't make it to the JPs in the first place

>If you can only travel across part of a system before running out of fuel, having multiple JPs worth of jump fuel is entirely pointless

How is that in anyway related to me saying that we don't know the relation between q-travel and jumping?

For all you know we could be able to fly around a system 3 times in a Hornet on the same amount of fuel it needs to do a single jump.

Basically: You don't know the numbers but still want to act wise on them.
>>
>>123867756
Cutlass Black is good. Red is a meme ship that will hardly be used, and Blue is for those with more money
>>
>>123867897
Jump fuel takes different fuel to Quantum travel / Cruise / SCM

Quantum travel / JPs don't share fuel
>>
>>123867792
yes it's headtracking with a display. Just because it has better accuracy and immersion etc. doesn't mean a game can't work with multiple brands of HMD.

>>123867750
range for jump points is pretty dumb yeah

unless you lack the range to even fly through certain long distance jump points. I think they will make points of different size have different lengths as well, to help certain ships on fuel and time

The Cutlass (particularly the Blue) actually has a very decent shield, just much weaker armour than, say, a Super Hornet. In Arena Commander it's always been at a massive disadvantage due to being pretty much the slowest and a big target (so easy points scored), but in the PU those aren't issues as much.

Nope, just that it should see pretty quick turnaround due to using the systems already in place. It looks pretty close to done, but the ship matrix lists it as still in concept... Though the Warlock and Titan say they're "in concept," too, and we know they're flight ready in the PTU.

So in summary: WHO THE FUCK KNOWS?

it will definitely have a bad one, but I'm sure good RP will be easy to find. what's nice about a setting like this is you don't have to talk like a retard to 'fit in'; you can just act naturally and still call it 'rolepley' as long as you avoid referencing the real world or the fact it's a game.

You're both stupid, one more than the other, though. While the top looks good, it has a lot of superfluous design and was trimmed down somewhat to the current implementation. However, some of the panels are non-functional, and others have been trimmed out to either unclutter the interface or to give a more slight, symmetrical look to the cockpit, and we all know how much CIG gets off on simple symmetry.

Once all the displays are operational, you'll have all the data you need and the ability to quickly switch the display to less combat pertinent information when needed. Overdesigning the displays isn't really necessary in this case, and does go counter to the idea of a basic, easy-access craft for the common man.

Why are you continuing to reply to him

neither of you are going to 'win' this
>>
>>123902427
It clearly is.
The PTU has disabled AC matchmaking.
The webm is clearly that of a MP match.

Secondly, there's no indicator of the various flight modes underneatrh the speed gauge on the right.

Something you can see very clearly here:

The 2.0 Cutlass is better, but it still needs a lot of help. Help that it won't get until they actually finish their SECOND fucking "priority rework" of the Cutlass.

just let me in 2.0 already

by the way, co-op VS still rewarding the most REC? (for poorfags at least); first time playing again after some months, though I remembered getting better reward for a long round of VS

I assume we're leaving out the low hanging fruit that is a cancer on all communities by bringing their cartoons/fetishes where they don't belong?

Conniefags. whales at least have made a significant contribution for their insufferable nature, conniefags are the same thing about their ship but haven't paid near enough dues for how loud and stupid they are.

that or the mods.

tfw people complain about this game not being incredibly realistic. Little do they know that real space combat would be nothing short of shooting something from a solar system's distance or letting go of a brick while traveling at incredible speeds.

I wanted WW2 in speesh, like my old dogfighters in space.

The only realism I wanted from SC was in how ships get damaged. and since hearing that the hull's structural weakpoint "won't be", I can see that desire fading away.
