I think some are still okay. I like pwn4hof though he is for mainly 12 year olds he plays interesting decks, Zalae if he isn't salty, Reynad if super salty, Kolento when/if he streams, seems really infrequent.

I really tried to make reno freeze work, but I either win without him, or lose even in the rare cases where it actually activates.

I think the regular version is stronger. You only ever really need reno against hyper aggro like face hunter, but he won't ever activate turn 6 because you still run 7 dupes, so you just die.

Midrange Paladin is auto win against Priest if they don't get a god hand. Priest and control decks in general do very well against any fast face deck with minimal removal. Out of all fast decks, only a secret Paladin that gets dr.1 to 8 on curve, and Zoo give control decks trouble. The midrange secret and midrange hunters generally shit on control, thanks to bullshit like Shredders and Highmanes.

it's the same problem control priest generally has. you have too many cards that are completely awful on their own and need to "combo" with something to be even reasonably okay.

if you get a hand full of shadowsteps and preps you're pretty fucked though. probably the biggest problem with mill rogue is that by definition it takes too long to win and can't really "curve out" in any way. it is entirely reactive, again, very similar yet even worse than control priest.

If I don't have Mal'Ganis for a demonlock deck, should I replace him with fearsome doomguard for now?

So I've studied this game enough to understand value / tempo / trading etc. I have 5 wins average in arena, so I'm definitely not a shit player. I've found recently that I've hit a wall, are there any intermediate / advanced ways to study hearthstone to help me play better? Or have I just hit the RNG wall?

I play both midrange pally and druid, I don't seem to be winning with them. I have a fairly low winrate against most meta decks and I have absolutely 0 winrate against meta aggro decks, despite making tons of tech choices. Honestly, it seems most of these games come down to what I draw vs my opponent. Ideally this should be pretty much a 50% toss up, but I find myself losing 70-80% of the time.

Lifecoach / Sjow / Savjs / Hotform / Trump / MrYagut / Reynad for the cancer decks / vlpHS / Strifecro / AWCTA MERPS and Hafu for arena.

I'm averaging 1-3 missplays per game while playing along with them.

I literally cannot think of why I'm losing so much. One thing I do notice about the streamers is that they seem to have more options at any given point in the game than I do. I usually no options, either hero power or play the sub-optimal card, and if I don't do that I'm 1 turn away from dying.

and that's exactly what I was talking about in my original post, intermediate / advanced hearthstone play. I don't know how to think a couple turns ahead when my opponent is just snowballing the shit out of me with their board.

Don't get me wrong, I will win any game I draw right. Like if I get some of my <5 drop cards, I have a pretty good winrate. But a lot of games I'll draw a druid of the claw when I need grove, and vice versa. Here's my druid in case I've made any mistakes with card choices.

the thing is also the deck doesnt have a very high skill ceiling. the commentators in dreamhack has said it themselves, there are ~200 hundred people who are just as good as the people in, but just didn't make it. You wouldn't have this in CSGO or LoL, not even in other card games like MtG.
Almost anything comes down to what cards you draw and what RNG results your cards have, theres so little skill involved.

Roots is too little impact for card slot outside of aggro druid, even against aggro. It can't clear Minibot or has any other relevant utility. And them dropping a Boom in response to your Boom doesn't mean that you "already lost", it means you get extreme tempo advantage because you have the answer, while he doesn't. Couple this with the fact that almost every single deck is running BGH targets, makes it very high value for slot. It's especially necessary as a Challenger counter.

I rarely see boom or any big creatures. In the 30 games I've played today, I've seen boom 4 times. I keep track so I can tech accordingly.

Oddly enough when I had him, I drew BGH so much in my opening hands, making him a dead card, I got tired of it.

Perhaps the mistake I'm making is that I'm trying to play a deck that gets destroyed by aggro.

Living roots counters minibot with hero power. If I'm lucky enough to draw darnasses, I have the board anyway with 2 1/1s and a 2/3, forcing opponent to play into a potential swipe if he wants to counter with muster.
