Maybe. Pad is more responsive and some things like airdashing are a lot easier to do but in general motions are easier to do on stick. Oh plus stick has the bonus of being able to press any button you want too and shit like plinking is easier

Depends on the game and character you're playing. When I switched to stick I found that combos and motions were much easier. I also love the clickity clack of the buttons/stick, makes the game more satisfying to me.

Hello /fgc/ I don't really play fighting games but christmas is coming up and I'd like to get my brother a fighting stick. My brother helped me out when I was in the gutter and I recently got a new job so price isn't that important.

I know my brother loves fighting games but he doesn't want to invest in a stick because its too expensive. I know this will make a nice present.

I am looking for something that will last long and is compatible with multiple systems. He plays on PS3/PS4/PC but I heard PS4 sticks were not compatible with PC?

Please recommend sorry if this question is asked too often.

It's what I use for PS4, and I used its predecessor for PS3 before this one was released. It's compatible for PS3 and PS4 and while it's not advertised as working on PC, I've used it with various games without having to set anything up and it worked fine. It's on the bulky size tough, if you think your brother would prefer a smaller stick you could go with a Madcatz stick but I'm not familiar with those. Stick size is mostly preference so unless your brother has used a stick somewhere else before it's hard to know what he'd prefer.

I've tried keyboards, controllers and fighting sticks.
I played keyboard the most and I think it's unnecessarily difficult and sometimes the PC won't read all my inputs.
Pads are pretty good as long as the gamepad is solid. It's kind of my favorite, but the biggest flaw with them is that my thumbs hurt and I sometimes can't do a few motions really well.
Sticks are fucking weird and require a ton of motion. I did not dislike it, but the motion needed to dash forward is too much imo.
Which one should I stick with? I'm not very good at fighting games to begin with so I need a lot of practicing but I can't decide which to use. (the fight stick is borrowed but I don't mind buying one if it's generally better)

The one you feel most comfortable with, obviously. There is no wrong or right answer. One of the best US players (SnakeEyez) uses pad so don't think you absolutely need to buy into the stick thing because it won't make you a better player.

I tend to like the idea of fight stick better because it doesn't hurt my thumbs and makes my hands seem giant.
The need of huge motions is still bugging me but i guess I can get used to it.

Yeah, I think stick sounds are cool and in general it looks cooler, but I preferred how silent pad was since it meant I could play at night without waking up everyone.

Pad shouldn't hurt your thumbs either if you play for a couple weeks in a row, you form a callus and it stops hurting.

i know on a hitbox specifically some stuff is easier than keyboard (like if your keyboard has ghosting as mine does, you literally can't do bryan's taunt jet upper and strict half-circle motions like in kof13 are more tedious), but i never felt the need to buy one of those.

and i played xrd on pad since my friend has it on ps4, and it wasn't too hard either. now that i have it on ps3 i play on my stick and the execution is generally on equal levels (except i can dash better, but that's from playing lots of tekken).

in general you just pick what you can afford anf what you're used to. you just want to play at your best. if you want to go play at arcades, then obviously you want to at least get some experience with stick, but otherwise there's no reason to switch to something new.

but people will make fun of you for using a cheatbox
