LAST WARNING BUD
How long do you guys think it'll be until Charlemagne goes on 50% or more sale? 2016 summer? winter?
Also, Hegemony 3 is 35% on the steam sale right now. Check it out if you want to see what a proper supply system would be like in a wargame. Makes planning campaigns just as important, if not more than, as fighting battles.

Alright, I guess I'll skip the early purchase and buy the DLC in summer. I hope someone can make the new unitcards in the style of the ones in Charlemagne for the regular Attila campaign. The normal pictures look so plain...
Also, I know what you mean by Hegemony 2. It felt like a misstep compared to Hegemony 1, which felt less restrictive and less buggy. I think Hegemony 3 is definitely a step back on the right track, but it's still not a game for everyone due to higher levels of micro required. I wish more wargamers or war game developers could take more notice of it. Paradox gsg have good diplomacy features, tw has good battles, and civ has its buildings, but all of them are just so bad when it comes to waging campaigns or operations. It's just move unit from point A to point B without any real strategy or thinking involved.

Fuck you Frank no one likes you.

Dear /twg/,
I have decided to play total war by purchasing Shogun 2 but found out there are two games.
So tell me, which one has the more different-playing/interesting factions for replayability, base shogun 2 or fall of the samurai?
>>123575273Rise of the Samurai
>>123575273
They're very different periods in history, and both are not particularly full of diversity. I'd say FotS is a bit more diverse since there's three paths to unifying Japan and two main "lines" of units (traditional and modern, although one is much better than the other)
>>123575273
>different-playing/interesting factions for replayability
Fots. No debate.
Though Shogun 2 may be easier if you're new
>>123575273
You should buy the Gold edition or whatever that comes with both, since they're both great.
Hey guys, how do you think Knights will be classed in Charlemagne?
Lancers or heavy melee cav?
>>123575494
There'll probably be both types.
does charlemagne DLC have moslem in it?
>>123575739

>>123575480
Sorry, I didn't know about that. I should have specified I was getting it on Steam and it doesn't have that Gold edition (I'd definitely get that one now that I know).
Anyone else autistically bothered by the portrayal of the Alans in Attila? They're just bland generic Germanics with one cataphract and one horse archer unit (that are stupidly difficult to get as horde) plus wardogs to differentiate them
>>123575417
Seriously?
>>123576585
I've been complaining about them and the entire Attila roster from fucking day 1, buddy. Don't even get me started on how much they butchered the Sassanids.
>>123576212
I think Gold edition is retail only
You can get on steam Shogun 2 complete or Fall of samurai complete, they sells separate i think
>>123576585

After a bloody battle, the haradrim capital falls to the Umbar.
GSG has a DLC mega upload for CK2 and all that: Does twg gave one for all the unit packs/factions and the like? I like having the option of variety, even if I'm not going to play all the factions.
Can we organize one?

I KNOW I WANT YOU

>>123583172
Starting with conquering your home province might be a good idea
After that you can get into Britain or Europe or sail around the globe and become King of Africa if that's what you fancy
If you click on the winning conditions it will tell you which areas the game would like you to conquer, you don't really need to obey that stuff but it might be a starting point to see what areas you could go after
As far units you should do research and build better buildings
>>123579039
>being bad
You are no sheikh of mine

"Mistah Worlwide"
>>123583172
>>123583539
Also starting tips: best I can come up with that hiring a mercenary Onaga makes sieges a lot easier, but note that they eat up billions of dollars every turn so you should really only keep them as long as you need
Research Onaga building at some point, I think it's the wood upgrade for the artisan somewhere in the military research tree
Keep an eye on sanitation, that shit is important
Good starting factions are Franks or maybe Saxons, if you get dead with Geats
that's the best I can come up with
>>123583539
>>123584123
Thanks Fellas
Yea one of the first things that happens is that my city became unsanitzed. Built a granary because it said it added to sanitation, but that didn't seem to do much. Also the first thing I did was invade Britain, is attacking the Jutes and the Danes really the best thing to do at first?
>>123585107
You can temporarily lose some sanitation due to a bad summer or winter, so it's not a huge deal to worry about.
And raiding britain is a retarded meme. Any army that can go over there and actually stay alive long enough to loot a city will eat way more than what they're worth in upkeep. You're better off conquering the baltics.
When's the first Charlemagne stream?
>>123585107
You don't HAVE to stab your Scandinavian brethren in the back if you don't want to, but getting a hold of the three cities in your area might be helpful
For example it would enable you to build a well, that gives all cities in the province bonus sanitation
>>123586834
>>123586103
I'd really rather not have to fight them, I don't think I can win. I can take those guys east of the Danes to start.

Rome 2 or Atila?
I could only buy one all its sales DLC
also the Emperor edition doesnt include any DLCs right?
>>123604665
Emperor editions is basically the base game ever since the augustus update. Atilla is better than Rome 2.
>>123604665
The answer is obvious.
Just stick to the classics.
Play Shogun 2.
>>123604665
Emperor edition does not include all the DLC, I think it only gives you Augustus campaigns.
Rome 2 isn't terrible, if you like the setting you might enjoy it.
Attila is a much better game, I really enjoy it.
I feel like it's harder to get into and more complicated, that might just be me being bad though
Actually >>123605076 isn't full on memery because Shogun 2 is, if you think you like the setting, a pretty good first Total War.
It does have it's shortcomings, but it's pretty straight forward and has amazing presentation as far as visuals, music and so on go.
How does Attila compare to Rome2?
Any gameplay/mechanics improvements?
Or is it just a reskin of Rome2?
Does the politics part finally have an actual point ?
>>123606074
It is a reskin of rome 2 except with features that should have never been removed from Rome 2.
>>123606074
>Any gameplay/mechanics improvements?
Some, not a lot. Agents are still unbelievably annoying, armies are still limited, you still can't edit the campaign map, yada yada
>>123606074
It's a much better game, very good in fact
>>123606074
politics is much better with family trees and generals that don't die after a few turns. same with agents
battles are a little different. units lose and gain fatigue much quicker, and units are harder to shatter and are more likely to recover from being broken (which is an absolute pain at times). Also unit tiers are a really big thing with many factions starting with down right awful units
campaign feels very different due a number of differences. politically it feels very different due to the existence of a couple of fuck huge empires (with significant advantages in troop quality) with almost every other faction being a 1 province minor. Fertility is a new stat that effects food production, and over the game it gets progressively lower and lower (starting in the north) so migration or changing your economy mid game is important. Plus the Huns act like a mongol/timurid invasion
>>123606074
Atilla has a family tree. The horde mechanic is a pretty big deal for a lot of the factions. Politics is now just percent control you have to balance. It provides empire wide modifiers like more growth, lower taxes, increased happiness, etc.
>>123606438
>except with features that should have never been removed from Rome 2.
examples pls?
>>123606523
>units are harder to shatter and are more likely to recover from being
what i really hate in Rome2 is that melee's are over too fast, casualties are way too big, moral is way too low.
>campaign feels very different due a number of differences
for example?
>changing your economy mid game is important
how do you change economy?
>>123606470
>armies are still limited
what? sorry i played only a little with Rome2, i got fed up with it quickly
>>123607012
family trees and siege escalation to name a few.
>>123607012
>how do you change economy?
Early game you can get a lot of money off farms. When fertility drops you have to switch to farms that don't give you quite so much money. So you have to up your industry/culture money production. If the building is in the same building chain, you can convert it.
>>123607319
so there are two types of farm?
does the fertility drop stop at a point?
>>123607447
three or four types of farms depending on the faction.
>cattle
>wheat
>goat
>special one only celts can build
Fertility starts dropping at year 400, and drops again 20 years after that.
>>123607012
>campaign feels very different due a number of differences
>for example?
starting faction power balance is very different from Rome 2. In Rome 2, with the exception of the sillykids, most factions are small or moderate sized. In Attila 3 factions dominate a huge portion of the map and the rest are really small. there's very few moderate sized factions. ends up changing the way the game plays a lot
climate change
horde migration
Attila events
Razing
campaign ends up feeling very different from Rome 2
>changing your economy mid game is important
>how do you change economy?
you basically swap from high fertility based economy (farms and stuff) to low fertility based economy (pastures), and if you haven't prepared for it you will need to do re balancing of your economy to account for the food differences
After slaughtering fellow kebabs for good 50 turns Dol Amroth proves to be much harder foe. Thankfully they took my river bait and smashed their 3 generals and swan knights to my pike+ballista+river combo.
>>123607953
>Razing
what's that? sack settlement? destroy it's buildings?
are nomad hordes a serious threat?
>>123581085
Lee was directly related though, and had some sort of proof (line of succession through his mother).
>>123608905
Completely destroying the settlement. It can be resettled, but it takes a serious amount of money and men to do so.
>>123608905
settlement gets completely destroyed and the entire province takes a penalty hit. its an option when you take a settlement, or happens when you decide to abandon it. Razed settlements can be recolonized, but it costs a lot of dosh
>>123608905
forgot that how is unit balance?
i remember rome 1 barbarian invasion, roman units were too high upkeep therefore cost ineffective, this made the game difficult to WRE
>>123609440
Changes throughout the game. Rome has the superior soldiers in the early game, but not a lot of them. WRE's money issue stems from corruption and having to handle a huge amount of immigration. German early game units are horrible. But that changes as the game goes on and the germans start to become really powerful. The Huns are powerful throughout all of their tiers.
What are the best mods for Napoleon? I played LME and didn't like it.
>>123609638
hoes does WRE do in the game?
can you do something against corruption / immigration?
how do WRE troops fare in later game?
rome 1 barbarian invasion's WRE had mediocre troops with high upkeep vs armor piercing strong and cheap barbarian axeman...
i remember old TW games' corruption was if you had a lot of money you get an income penalty + bad traits for generals. how is it in Attila?
>>123610045
WRE will always suffer from constant immigration, though it has reduced public order penalties. WRE can also have governors use edicts to reduce immigration to a province. As for corruption, as you research technology, you can get some that will reduce corruption by a certain amount, though you will always top out at 95% as you increase in power, unless you get a mod to reduce it to, say, 80%.
WRE troops are good in early and late game. Good formations, good armor, but their starting cav is shit. Better for just running down archers instead.
>>123610045
WRE crumbles like a house of cards if it isn't controlled by the player. With all the germans attacking it at once and all the rebel factions popping up they don't stand much of a chance. You can combat immigration by incresing the tax rate of provinces, but it has the issue of decreasing happiness. WRE gets some really good troops late game, they have the best skirmisher unit in the game. The problem is surviving to that point. Corruption depends on a combination of your imperium, general traits, research, politics, and I think some provinces have a higher corruption than others. You lose a percent of you income from that specific province.
>>123610045
WRE has like 80% corruption even at max research levels

They're better than Rome 2, at least, but you would think CA would learn to not use them at all after how they were hated in Rome 2. Shogun 2's unit and building cards were alright, though.
>>123611703

Is a Total War game set in modern times possible?
Would it work with the different way war is fought today?
>>123622720
That's retarded.
You're retarded.
Not without massive changes in style that would make attaching the Total War franchise meaningless
The closest to a "manually controlled large-ish scale tactical battle" game possible set in modern times is something like Wargame, and only if the campaign has a much more detailed wargame-like (think Hearts of Iron or Gary Grigsby's War in the East or something like that.

It's purpose is to serve as a cool battle map.
>>123622720
It'd need to be men of war on the battle map. In general it wouldn't work very well.
Pardon the lack of updating. Visuals are almost done. Then it's statting. Gotta figure out why the shield's round pattern is repeating because I made 11 arabesque shield patterns but only one is showing up there. These are Khamis swordsmen replacing one of those weird Jewish named Saneghorim and Khal something (A spearmen is replacing the other, and Baltha warriors or defenders are currently Khamis axemen but I think I'll scale them back to be just armored axemen).
Thought about the Khamis spears being a'la EB2's Sabaean royals with small shield, spear and bow, but I wasn't sure about it.
>>123626193
Also the matte finish on that helmet is old - I have since fixed it but I haven't replaced the one in the pack yet so that pack one overrides it.
I also need to redo-touch up the terrible old yellow and beigey scale you see there.
Also if anyone has evidence for the himyarite masks I'll re-include them but I have not been able to find an iota of evidence for it. It'll be kept for generals because we aren't changing the Sand-kingdoms generals just yet - the team-member in charge of that is busy and I'm unfamiliar with how to do it and have plenty else to work on.
Missing shields in this case but snazzy and comfy outfits.
I need more Charlemagne information and I need it now!

help guys pls i play TAW with mos but somehow the unique maps like for example cair andros are regular castles from medieval 2? is that intented? and why do regular orcs not flee when there are 30 out of 260 left? am i retarded?
How are you supposed to use Skirmishers? They don't seem to do any noticable damage on any kind of unit. I tried to flank with them, but they lose morale so fast if the enemy even as much as looks towards them, and skirmishing won't work because they need to be so close to actually make use of their javelin tosses, or whatever it is they throw.
So, yeah. How do you use Skirmishers? I'm primarily talking about Attila here.
>defend a siege against the Huns
>Have high leveled, big dicked spearmen waiting on the inside of the gate
>beaten and battered by the huns
>figure if i can just wait for them to run out of arrows, they'll have to charge the gates
>wait
>wait
>arrows just keep pouring in
>slowly lose the siege because everyone shatters from deaths
>mfw realizing that i literally did a Crassus
>mfw realizing i did one of the worst military failures in history in repeat
>>123649163
>CA always tries to go for historical accuracy
What made you think this?
>>123653789
Skirmishes from behind are the shit. Units with shields block a lot of the damage they do front on, so if you can get your skirmishers behind a unit, if they're stuck in combat for example, they will inflict a lot of casualties. But you do have to have some spears or swords to protect them because the AI will always try to get their cav onto your skirmishers.

Don't listen to all these negative nancies.
I think a Total War in any era is possible, its just as the type and style of warfare changes so does the formula for a Total War game. For the modern era, games like Wargame do it great as does CoH and MoW, but for TW it could work, not sure CA or SEGA would be up for it.
Strategy games aren't exactly hot shit at the minute.
>>123656195
But then you're just taking a strategy game with random gameplay and slapping TW on it
>>123637429
To be fair the European theater in that game kind of took a back seat to India and America/South America.
It would have been neat to get a massive African theater though.
I'd kill for Empire 2, set in the 1600's and running right up until the 1900's, with the option to start at any point you want. With the major wars as big events assuming the involved factions aren't dead.
All that tech development, that Empire building potential, world domination... too good.
>>123656272
The Total War formula hasn't changed since its first title. Even with Empire/Napoleon it still had a very similar combat and battle style just with gunpowder weapons and obviously more ranged engagements, I don't see why the TW couldn't be evolved to have different styles and game play.
>>123656487
Because line based combat and big routs are what makes a game Total War
You can't just make a squad-based game and call it TW
Not to mention that there's really no pitched battles in the modern day, so it would have to be real time battles on the strategy map
What's the use of raiding when I can get more money just camping up? The difference in happiness hit between both stances for an enemy city is negligible too
>>123656736
Raiding is good early on when you lack food
But later on, if your general and faction have traits that give you a bonus to raiding, you get pretty good dosh
>>123656736

that would imply that they see things clearly now, which is bullshit. So many of them bitch (justifiably so) about Rome2 but then comment about how Med2 was flawless and some even mention Empire as if it was the best TW game.
Others are just broke ass third-worlders that complain about DLC, and even though Rome2 and S2 DLC was shit, they only mention R2 and never bother to mention how the DLC quality in Attila is significantly higher, with the only bad DLC being the Vikings, and shit like EoS and AoC setting the standards really fucking high.

In a settlement he'll lower troop cost.
While in a settlement or in an army he'll train troops.
You can stack foreign veterans so if you have a really good troop training province you can put 3 there, pump out cheap elite troops and then have then train to a good level there over a couple turns.

>>123682979
Build sake dens in every town and put full stacks of trade ships on every trade node. It also helps if you had low taxes throughout the campaign so your town wealth and growth is huge.
Which game is the best for artillery? I really like the cannons in Napoleon, not sure if that's the height of the series.
>>123683381
FotS is slightly better. Do you mean Cannons or Sieges?
>>123683381
It's better in FotS but it makes the game incredibly easy, the enemy AI just can't deal with half a stack of Armstrong guns no matter what they throw at it.
>>123683381
Empire is the best for artillery.
You have multiple types of cannons, horse cannons with various types of shells. You get rockets and mortars and howitzers and organ guns.
Cannons get solid shot, canister shot and in the late game shrapnel shells which are fucking awesome to watch.
howitzers and mortars get poison gas, incendiaries, explosive shots and more modern contact explosive shells.
Empire is the absolute best if you like watching artillery.
Napoleon doesn't have the same variety as empire and FoTS doesn't have much shell variety.

>>123690062
Vanilla is pretty gud on its own
You could try those mods that do small changes if you prefer, like nerfing those machine town towers or unlimited governors
Or try out FOTE, an overhaul mod but its not complete yet
>>123683381
Napoleon has useful, but not broken artillery.
FotS artillery is beyond broken, especially since the AI can't react well to it. You can pretty much wipe out a full stack inside walls with 2 units of Armstrong guns. FotS also has coastal bombardment, which is fucking awesome.
Having heavy cav generals is so imporant in M2, especially in this mod as Mordor.
Playing Mordor is surprisingly fun too. Tie up all of the enemy force with your numbers, then come around with your better units and a&h them. Much more fun that I expected.
>>123573336
>supply system
>pre-industrial warfare
Ahistorical as fuck. Until armies started using massive amounts of pre-fabricated disposables like cartridges and canned food, most armies just lived off the land.
Or at least, they did in the early modern era, maybe there was more need in ancient times because labor-intensive armor was more common. But I doubt it, most armor and weapon damage could probably be solved by field repairs, and food was always looted from the countryside an army was campaigning in.
Is any of this shit worth getting?

Charlemagne, last roman, empires of sand, and blood
others only if you like to play specific factions
MFW never gonna experience a total war game with playable factions in Norway
>>123692772
What's new about the last roman? Empires of sand looks alright i guess.
>>123693330
>Norway
>Important
>>123693363
Last Roman is just a campaign pack letting you play as the Roman Expedition, or one of four barbarian factions. Romans are the only ones with any real changes. Barbars barely get anything new. Don't bother with it unless you want to play a Roman horde faction.
>>123692413
Empires of Sand is pretty good, the middle east start is nice change of pace and the factions feel fairly unique. Be prepared for the sassykid apocalypse though.
Celts are pretty fun if you really want to do some rape and pillage since every unit gets guerilla deployment, most of them are raiders, and you can make build high tier buildings from getting heroic victories and securing trade resources.
Longbeards are ok, I'd only recommend it if you're sick of the barbars in the vanilla game.
Vikings are a shitty version of the Saxons with a less interesting unit roster.
Blood and Burning is exactly what it sounds like, and I haven't played The Last Roman.

Yeah i know that Norway hasn't had much historical relevance, but in the charlemagne expansion i still think they should have added landmass in the whole of scandinavia, including the baltics, since both the norse and sweedes where beginning to get active raiding northern brittain and the baltics during this time.
>>123695638
Justinian was a demon. His policies would end up hurting the Eastern Roman Empire.

Hey guys, back to raping Europe with big celtic spears.
The conquest of Gallia is going well - we can split it into several separate, easy wars, before finally starting the fight with the WRE. They've held together marvelously well, holding almost all of Hispania and big chunks of Gaul, Italy, and Africa, and are second only behind the Sassanids...

It's not opposition. It's part of /pol/. Views from any ideology can be stated and defended against all comers. It's true free speech, and true equality.
>and shitpost their view
>their view
There is no defining view(s) on a free speech political board. Politically incorrect truths aren't part of someone's ideology - they're simply the truth.
>bitching about "feminists", "race", or "tumblr", being so fucking vapid as to denounce the idea that their shitty bullshit doesn't belong on the board they are posting on, and then calling their opposition a "special interest" like "reddit".
Those topics have increasing influence into gaming spaces like /tg/. You keep seeming to purport the idea that there's some subjective nature to truth that upsets your world view.
Am changing the zodiac archers from whatever the fuck 'zodiac archers' are to Sassanian loaned savaran based off the Sassanians loaning such soldiers to the Yemenis to fight the Abyssinians in the 6th century. The issue of possibly being at war with the Sassanids but still being able to recruit these guys is an unfortunate one but I'll cap their numbers at a few (not sure how many. Prob 5-10).

>>123738156
Oh sorry no I just missed that last part.
I'd hope we can finish, or at least I can finish, by summer of next year. My own goal is to just try and get the rosters done. Our team is still there but I am not sure if we/they will have the time to do a DEI level job on it. After that I could 'retire' from modding and simply let people do as they will with the textures or loan them out to promising mods that aren't going to just butcher it all to make super epic spartan 300 praetorian cataphract swordsmen Visigothic reinforcements. If they do I'm not liable to chase after them - I haven't for the guy whose done that for his Jingoistic Persia mod. I just would hope there'd be some semblance of fairness and theming - it's not fun when a Visigothic noble, Persian savaran and Roman Auxilia Palatina all look the exact same.
I'm also considering skipping the Sassanids in the short term and after desert kingdoms are done moving on to the nordics and Celts. The reason being I could tackle them and Charlemagne in one go - I already have a lot of germanic and Avar and Umayyad assets, so I am just missing the anglo-saxon, nordic and celtic stuff.
And I know before we started on FOTE we were dreaming big dreams of a total conversion in another period (500s, or 600s, or further) but I am not sure there'll be enough around to really see through to that.
As for the AOR - it's already been done. Swiss Halberdier and I worked on it (And he's largely done all the work whenever we had a patch that required re-doing it). Grabbing the latest PFM and you should be able to assign unit resources. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?694032-Community-Campaign-Map-with-Area-of-Recruitment-Unit-Resources

Assigning textures can actually be easy when you understand the fundamentals. If you want to give it a go, download http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ or any hex editor. The important things are:
-you cannot add/delete any values. Never press backspace or delete. Instead you have to replace (Like if you press insert in word and type in the middle of a sentence it will replace the characters with your new ones). Thus your file names have to either be the exact same # of characters as the one you are replacing (Find and replace being a lifesaver).
However with the thracian cloak I don't think you need to worry about the advanced stuff. It'd just be:
-Extract thracian cloak01 or 02 from Attila's model pack.
-find and replace: thracian_cloak_01_diffuse.dds with _croc_cape_pict01_diffuse.dds and replace "thracian_cloak_01_mask.dds" with "test_mask.dds............." (every single dot).
-Name the saved thracian cloak 01 "_croc_cloak_pictish_large_a".
Then redo this for the remaining cloaks.
I agree with you on that interest. I really like everything up to about the 1100s. Would that there were more total conversion efforts for Attila, I'd happily try and help out a mod doing a total conversion to say the 11th century or whatever.

>not understanding I was pointing out the reality of the metaphor you used
>Apparently dialogue is autistic now.
No, no, no. You did the opposite of that. You clinged to a semantic point of the metaphor (cherry-picked history of the Roman Colosseum), rather than the general point of the metaphor, ie the Colosseum being an open arena.
>It's called mob rule.
You couldn't be more objectively incorrect. Reddit fits the mob rule definition because of 'le downvotes' being able to hide and censor dissenting views. This is impossible on 4chan. There is no up/down votes, and you can't hide posts for others. Every post is presented equally. It's equal, free expression.
>>le ebin truth is relative xdxdxdx
I was implying the opposite of that. You try to ascribe subjectivity to things that don't fit your world view, when in fact the truth is objective.
>Also, you truly know nothing about gaming.
I'm a game designer, actually.
<Literally everyone else doesn't care at all
It's easy to point and laugh at Anita, et al, until they start getting games banned in entire countries because companies don't want the bad press, as had already begun happening. /v/ used to believe your silliness until femifascists butted into their hobby.
so whats the go. is fo4 good or what?
My favorite thing about Rome II is getting a juicy rear charge on some infantry off with a Royal Cataphract unit. There's nothing like clicking the TRAMPLE button and hearing that swarthy thickly-accented man yell "GRRRRRIND THEM INTO DUST" as the charge horn blares and your shock cav crashes into the rear of their unfortunate victims, killing a whole few of them because cav charges suck dick in that game.

>>123746337
You're kind of supposed to pull back your troops as soon as the enemy gets halfway up the wall / you start coming under fire from rifles. Your guys will pick them off as they come over the ramparts, and you don't recieve casualties.
Also, just defend the top, don't bother with the rest.

The supply issue is mainly for towns/settlements/whatever. Which is annoying as fuck at times since some areas produce barely any food, you need to garrison them to void rebellions which means you have to manually move workers/slaves or whoever with food over there.

Read the post more carefully. Normally agree it would have been a walk in the park but I'm using a mod that drastically nerfs accuracy. It feels like I'm playing LME actually.
For reference this here is the last surviving defender of a stronghold I attacked.
I lined up four line infantry behind him, put them on rank fire and let them go crazy and it still took about a dozen volleys for them to hit him despite the distance only being around a third of their max range.
It makes field battles more interesting because they aren't all just lining up your infantry and then sitting back while the enemy is massacred but sieges are just fucked.

by the time you capture Erobar you should start getting Dragon companyss avaible to you
btw the Rhun heavy pikemens are littraly the best unit in the entire game and is the backbone of the Rhun armies in field battles
>>123767540
The nazgul bodyguard are really good because they are your only real cavalry unit. You have wargs, but they are more anti-lightcav unit and overall pretty weak. Nazgul bodyguard replenish on their own and since the nazgul generals have insane hitpoints, you dont need to worry about them dying. And even if they die they will respawn at Barad-dur after some turns.
Every nazgul has a special ability that lowers the enemy morale so they are best used as rear flanking shock unit. They will rout every basic unit in the game. You can use them as anti-cav or just yolo frontal charge unit, but you are kinda wasting their strengths then. The rest of your entire army consists of worthless orcs, so you should rather use the nazgul as offensive unit rather than trying to protect your flanks or archers. Whatever the enemy cav is fucking up, you are fucking them way more with your rear charges.
Just remember to stay away from uber elite cav and infantry units, their morale can't be broken and you are just throwing away your generals unit.
Man, playing as Empires of the Sand aint easy.
You either get fucked by ERE or Sassies.
Shogun 2 was the last good CW game, if you pre-order any of their games or DLC you are cancer.

Blaze it.
>>123818979
You had ONE FUCKING JOBRaze it
>>123818979
>>123818630
Jesus fuck, I mean I know I'm not tat good at this game, but damn. How do you fight these guys?
Holy shit. One of those line infatrymen just ahead of the line just threw his rifle like a javelin into an oncoming spearman and then ran up, pulled it out of the dead mans face and then stabbed the shit out of the nigga running up behind him.
I've seen it in screens here before but it's the first time in maybe one hundred hours of FotS that I've caught it myself.
FotE guy, are you here?
Bothering you again about the Celtic cloaks hotfix.
Also, on your plan to put off the Sassanid overhaul - any chance of giving them a balance workover before you do an overhaul of visual assets? They're going to be a bigger thing in most campaigns than the Celts and Norse, or at least, their bullshit units from vanilla will be more important in their impact on the player.
>>123821261
forgot pic
>>123816907
i greatly prefer Shogun 2 due to the campaign and setting. Attila's got a lot of neat features though, so I'm really eager to see Charlmameme
Now I can kinda understand why th Russians are so fond of it (geats)
Anyone have an extra copy of Attila?
>>123823120
sent :^)
>downloading Empire:TW
what am I in for lads? Only played Atilla and Shogun 2. Looking forward to cannons and smoke.
>>123815140
After dealing with the Geats, the time finally comes for our showdown with the WRE. We declare war on the Franks, their puppet state, and prepare to knock out the foederati in one turn before taking Roman Gaul proper.
>>123821681
>FotS
fuck off, that trash isnt welcome here
>>123823272
Much, much slower paced battles.
>>123823385
How slow we talking here?
>>123823338
We'll be hitting the Franks three times this turn. The first will take out their capital at Rotomagus. The next will remove their last settlement, in Aquitania. The last will be knocking out their main army, which has handily retreated to the Roman city of Aquae Sextiae, meaning we'll fight the city's garrison as well, and take it for free if we win.
>>123823360
nah m8 I think I'll stick with CA's last good game
>>123823656
The capture of Rotomagus is exceedingly boring, because the AI once again insists on marching out into the field despite being woefully outmatched.
Probably going to be the same for Avaricum.
Are there any mods that make the AI not act completely retarded during defensive sieges?
>>123823480
pretty slow
unless you rely on shock like true soldaten.
>>123823272
Should have gone for Napoleon instead
So I just downloaded third age, should I get any of the submods or just play vanilla?
>>123812385
Man, I wish i knew old norse.
Just noticed fire arrows can light trees and forests on fire.
Does this have any real affect besides visual?
When does the last wave of climate change hit in Attila?

>Playable factions
>NCR
>BOS
>Caesar's Legion
>Enclave
>Super Mutants
>Ghouls
Sounded dumb at first but now I want it.
>>123644407
Nope, only Scotland.
>>123826635
Everything
Why all factions of Total Warhammer such uttershit? Where is normal and interesting factions and map?
>>123826981
>Having a Total War set in the lame-ass west when we can go east and have the Institute, better BoS, surviving Enclave, etc

It's a fucking pain in the ass to learn. Mostly because any given grammatical ending can mean one of 4 things, because almost all of it degraded into one vowel or consonant. With Indo-European, the best languages are the old ones that preserved more of the clear grammatical structure of the parent language, or the later ones that did away with it entirely.
Also, the shared Germanic vocab is a lot less helpful than you'd hope.
As for the shit actually in the language, saga literature can be pretty interesting, but it's still generally not fulfilling in the same sense that modern literature is. Only worth learning if you really want to get into old Icelandic culture, or are already an Indo-European/Germanic languages autist. Not to say that sagas aren't worth reading, but it's a really fucking huge commitment to try and learn Old Norse.
t; studied it for 2-3 semesters.
>>123825393
Listening to some period Reconquista music inspired me to just straight out rush the fucks at Avaricum, trying to forget that it was just one brand of barbar shitters attacking another. Was a nice, satisfying bloodbath.
Now the Franks are a horde, and we're attacking their main stack. There's another, smaller one left after this, but we won't have to worry about it. We'll go straight to conquering the Romans.
>>123827735
>Choosing either coast
Why not both
have a combined time of around 600 hours for R2 and attila but im not sure i understand the battle mechanics of S2 all that well (modded with TROM3)
> play a custom battle for practice
> send all my bows, guns, bomb throwers and ninjas across the field to engage and whittle down the enemy
> combined they actually do quiet abit of damage to the enemy
> March my in infantry over to the fight
> infantry is wiped out and causes a chain route of my entire army
>>123608712
im new to all of total war but shogun II, which game is this? as someone newer to the games which is the best buy?
>>123828434
That's the Lord of the Rings mod for Med 2: Kingdoms.
All of the games other than Rome 2 are decent so it's best to get into whichever one portrays your most preferred historical setting.
It is worth keeping in mind that Med 2 has the best and most mods as well, many of which are total overhauls.
>>123827725
Empire is the normal faction, m80
humans with lots of infantry, cavalry and artillery, minimal magic and monstrous units/cavalry
>>123827963
The enemy has 8 javelin units in their army, but they foolishly decide to take the offensive.
We proceed to show them how Ebdanian skirmishers are not at all overpowered or imbalanced at all.
>>123633558
The Duke of York dies when the Scottish armies rise with Wallace.
Why are there no good mods for Medieval 2
>Rage of the DArk Gods is artificial difficulty
>LotR is just trash
>Stainless Steel takes too long to get into
>Elder Scrolls has nothing to do
What did I miss
>>123633558
>>123828974
Soon his brother the Prince of Wales and his cousins come North, trapped between an 8 star general and another full stack directly at the rear they smash their way through, kill the enemy commander and march on Edinburgh.

stop being shit
>>123829234
How is 500 full stacks of fully upgraded and gold experience orcs spawning rigth next to all of your cities not artifical difficulty
>>123828902
Not.
Overpowered.
At.
All.
>>123829337
I think this is my highest K:D ratio in a battle yet. We kill over 50 enemies for every one of our men lost.

fixed that for you

One unit each from the Frankish horde and the Roman garrison survive. Cattios, Prince and Heir of the Eblani Kingdom, shall march into the former Roman capital with almost no resistance.

Inside upgraded walls with an elite army garrisoned and some luck
>>123830337
A detachment of cavalry run down the last remnants of the Frankish horde.
All that remains in order to wipe them off the map is to destroy their last half-horde hiding out in Aquitania.
>tfw you find out fire spreads
>>123812543
That's one of the previewed "features" of Attila. Everything was so spooky that everyone has breakdowns every few minutes, takes a minute to de-trigger, and gets back into the thick of it. Of course, that is only balanced for infantry and give cavalry a very distinct advantage.
Why do I have so many immigrants
It's killing my public order
>>123835670
Low taxes. Raise the taxes for a few turns and that will starve them out.
Should we bother with a new thread?
>>123835745
Total War is dead, so no.
>>123835745
yes
