CHARLES THE MENG ANNOUNCEMENT ARE YOU FUCKING READY GUYS GIT HHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPPPPEEE:

Old Thread: >>123141617
First for Chrissy Lee, the hot piece that would probably have been VA for Big Karl

Way to go, retard. You saw the mistake made in the first new general yet you did nothing to correct it.
New, proper thread w/ proper OP picture AND the goddamn announcement vid: >>123336357
Feels welcome.
>>123336498
Fuck off, I included it, I just accidentally put it under the Warhammer section.
Pretty sure the all caps make it obvious, though.
Fuck your Shogun shit, this is the one true Charlemagne edition.
How much Saxon blood should I spill?
>>123335294
Islamic factions will be an invading force from north africa that you can't stop at the source like the moors.
Screencap this.
OK, let's get this thread off with some campaign posting.
I thought I had wrapped up wars with Germanic shitters, but the refugees from razing the Baltic coast came all the way to fucking Britain just to shit on me.
We'll remove them from premises quickly, and then start ravaging the Roman world with our
BIG
CELTIC
SPEARS
>>123337787
The Islamic Factions already control most of Spain during that time period retard.

>>123337897

>>123338463
What the fuck CA, I love the Celtic pack but this clipping is horseshit.
Anyway, we're about to remove Rugians from premises.
>>123339118
We take the offensive, and march towards the enemy. Their cavalry charge our forward skirmisher line, opening themselves up to be taken out by our own cav.
>>123339118
Im pretty sure those clipping capes are from a mod you installed, vanilla doesnt have those
>>123339118
I really wish I knew how to keep my celts visible like yours in FOTE. Damn missing textures.
>>123339629
>>123340690
Well maybe FotE is fucking things up to some extent, it's the only mod I'm running that could cause the clipping.
I love EB as much as much as the next guy, but the custom battle rosters are fucked , why can every faction feild every unit?
> German barbars can recruit hoplites
>>123340926
I would take the clipping if it meant I could have the fucking textures back
>>123341529
go press the multiplayer battles shortcut in the folder
back up your edu before you do that though
My guesses for the 8 playable factions:
1. Charlie.
2. One of the mainland Saxons.
3. One of the Anglo-Saxons.
4. One of the Muslims.
5. Christian Iberians.
6. Roman Sicily.
7. ??? One of the Slavs?
8. ??? One of the Celts?
I also hoped that at least the Avars, one each of the Irish and Welsh, Lombardy, and at least one of the non-Charlemagne Frankish factions would be playable.
Shouldn't be too long before we get unlocker mods, though.
Reminder that I got it all right two months ago.
Which faction are you going to play your first campaign as?
>>123344323
I would say Asturias, but I worry that will be the easiest faction that kinda breaks the ideas of the DLC
>start small, have large potential for growth
>enemy at doorstep, safe distance away from allies so they don't get antsy
>have diplomatic bonuses with the big boiz
>easy to justify expansion wars, fewer penalties for constant war
>>123344323
Charlemagne so I can shed the blood of the Saxon men.
>>123344323
I want to say the Theme of Sicily so I can reestablish the Exarchate. Don't even think think they'll be playable though, so I'll probably just go with Charlemagne.
>>123344876
I'm actually thinking that they may not be playable.
We know that Charlie will be in, and the Steam page strongly implies that mainland Saxons, Vikings, and Muslims will be playable. And I'll preorder Warhammer for everyone in /twg/ if CA doesn't make one of the English factions playable.
That's 5/8.
Lombardy has to be in because its Charlie's main Christian rival.
6/8.
Celts are popular and have ridiculous faction density on the map (10 factions in 12 regions), so we can bet one of them will be in.
7/8
So for the final faction, we have as strong contenders Asturias, Byzantine Sicily, one of the Slavs, and the Avars.
Personally, I'm betting on the Avars, even though I want Asturias more than anything. I don't know why you think they'll be easy, there'll probably be some kind of vassal system, so you may not be dealing with divided Taifas, but instead a more or less united Iberia.
Welcome to AMD master race
>>123344323
Wessex, remove viking filth.
>>123344323
The Muslims, because they'll most like be Cordoba or some other Muslims in Iberia, and the both the different religion and the start position will probably make for an interesting campaign.
>>123337787

Mods. That's it.
I want to get into this series...
Should I play it based by release order? Which games should I avoid?
>>123352164
Every game is good now, first shogun and medieval are propably dated as fuck if you never played them.
For start choose the one that you are most interested in history. You love knights and crusades? Med 2
You like Japan? Shogun 2
Napoleon? Napoleon, or Empire for pre Nap
TRIARII? rome 1
rome 2 and attila are fun too, but i wont recomend them to you at start
>>123352445
>tfw no TW game set in three kingdoms era
>>123352164
The newer games are a lot harder and more comples than the earlier ones, especially Attila. I would recommend starting with a classic like M2 to familiarize yourself with the basics, before moving onto whatever game's setting you like the most.
Although it has to be said is the most feature complete and challenging game, so you may want to check it out even if you aren't a fan of the setting. Especially with the new Charlemagne DLC coming out in 2 weeks.
>>123352520
there are some mods for it for med 2, but not translated
>>123352164
It really depends on the period you feel like you would enjoy the most.
(I didn't play original Shogun and Medieval)
Rome 1 is good, might be a little hard to play nowadays though
controls are very clunky, same for Medieval 2
Alexander is not fun
Medieval 2 has great time period and lots good mods, it might be worth playing just for that
Kingdoms is good
Empire is only good if modded with LME or Darthmod
Napoopan is like Empire, but better in every way. It's on a smaller scale though
Shogun 2 has great presentation, it's a good starting point imho because it's not too complicated, the battles are fairly straight forward and everything looks and sounds really great
The standalone Fall of the Samurai expansion is good fun too, if you like gunpowder shenanigans it might be for you
Rome 2 was garbage at launch, but they did a lot of work to fix it. If you like the time period it might be worth a try
Attila is great, I really like it. I don't know if I would recommend is as a first game in the series though, I think it's somewhat more complicated and more difficult to get into

>>123352645
>the newer games are harder then the older ones
Lol nope. The battles got smaller scale and faster paced from rome 1 onwards
>>123353382
Rome 1 is the fastest paced and easiest game in the series by far. You can wipe entire stacks using just a general unit if you aren't shit.
>>123353382
M2 is literally the only game slower than Attila and R2. It's also much less challenging as a result. Not to mentions the AI is absolute garbage by comparison.

Why is Patch 17 so shit anons?
That auto setting for battles sucks major dick. Pre Patch 17. I ran everything at extreme perfectly fine at 78-110fps. Since 17 the auto settings lowers the graphical quality despite manual settings being extreme. Clearly it was made for those with potato computers to stop complaining about technical issues whilst alienating those on high end ones.
I no longer play battles because they look so shit now. Rome 2 is now just a city builder lite.
I hope Attila never gets that shit.
>>123358149
Nothing based about Islamist cunts anon that happily help ISIS. Turkey should be removed for their crimes.
Turkey invaded Syrian airspace to shoot down Russian jets that passed into Turkish airspace for just 17 seconds over a 2.5km wide piece of land. Thats an act of war and article 5 of NATO does not apply to Aggressor members.
It was a planned downing.

Campaign map and the bits of battle footage (Especially the siege) looked great. Not that I expect it to look quite so good in action, but still. I am a bit worried about the lack of Vampire Counts. Chaos is apparently in better shape than them judging by the fact that they got shown off over VC.
Hi
It seems CA has commited a mistake - I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume out of ignorance, although the systematic perpetuation of such myths does look oddly like intentional foul play wishing to whitewash history.
For those unawarae, Charlemagne was actually moorish (as were most European peoples at the time). There is a lot of evidence pointing this out, and the only reason it is not more widely known is the literal genocide (of race, culture and even history) commited in Europe that has become known by the whitewashed term of "Renaissance".
I hope CA fixes this, as it is frankly just disheartening. It is the 21st century, time to stop letting historical revisionism and obvious propaganda shape your worldview.
>>123368741
Chaos was already announced in form of their own trailer, dwarfs and empire all had their respective videos as well
They probably won't show first Vampire Count footage in another factions trailer, they will get their own trailer tam tam
>>123365590
I'm pretty sure it's used in Snatch (probably the last boxing scene), but I don't know if it's originally made for it
>>123369058
6/10
Mostly reused bait, but decently crafted for what it is.
>>123369682I just honestly wanted to share the picture since it has become relevant and decided to have a little fun with it
>>123369082
Still, we could've gotten the goblin saying "We could even have a go at those blood sucking gits if you REALLY want to..." and show a shot of a VC city or something. Like I said, just a bit concerning that we've seen nothing outside the announcement trailer.
>>123369058

>>123369058
>Hyphenation in the text
Disgusting.
>>123369592
That has to be where I recognize it from, I saw Snatch again very recently
>>123369739
Why would they do that though?
They will show the Vampire Counts in their own trailer, there is no reason to use their footage in the orc trailer instead of using the already established factions
Why would you want to take attention away from the orcs?
Obviously you want to see the Vampire Counts and that's exactly why they don't just add the first gameplay footage of the faction as some throwaway line in another factions big trailer
>>123370164
I want to see all the factions. Its less a desire to see them as to know that they're in the same level of completeness as the other factions. I don't think having a nod to one of the main factions, when you bring up every other faction, is a "Throwaway line". I was just thinking of a b-roll shot of a castle or something to show us that they are in fact coming along. No need for battle footage. Not sure what you have against seeing more footage in anycase, but whatever mang.
>tfw EB2
>>123370505
I don't have anything against seeing more footage, it just makes no sense whatsoever to show Vampire Counts in this trailer
>>123370654
>It makes no sense whatsoever to show a teaser shot for the 5th faction after showing off the 4 other factions
That's what you sound like
>>123370938
Why do you have to be so retarded?
They other four already had their trailers, Vampire Counts did not.
They will get their own big trailer a couple weeks from now.
It makes no sense whatsoever to take the big trailer for one faction and shove in the gameplay reveal for a faction that previously did not have any publicly available gameplay footage
The fact that the marketing people behind this thing agree with me proves that you are retarded.
I don't know what is wrong with you, I'm starting to suspect you feel some sort of autisitc need to search for something wrong with the game that you can go worry about at this stage
>>123371217
Read the posts bitch nigga, I never said to show off game[lay footage. Just a shot of like the exterior of a castle or even just Manfred sitting on a throne or something to let us know, "Oh look, CA is in fact working on that and we can expect to see something of that in the coming weeks." I didn't even think it was that big a deal, you seem to be the one who is set against it so much. Christ, you seem very dead set against a position that nobody is taking.

You guys ready?
>>123372169
not that guy, but please shut up
you are embarrassing yourself
you really wanting to see vampire counts is exactly why they will reveal their footage with their own trailer and series of videos
you would have to be mentally challenged to take focus away from orcs and campaign map by premiering vampire footage in an unrelated trailer
their goal is to market the game, not to show you what you want to see right now just so you can stop tip toeing from one foot to the other like a child that's about to piss itself
>>123372406
>ORCthrough
...what?
>>123372469
How am I going to embarrass myself on an anonymous image board? Half of those posts calling me a retard may have been me for all you know. Not going to apologize for wanting to see more of the game or expressing concern that we've seen more of the pre-order faction than one of the base factions. Not expecting them to focus on them at all in the orcs trailer, just something like the Dwarf teaser at the end of that one Empire video to get us hyped for the next thing. Really not sure why that's such a big deal that you even needed to respond.

WAAAAAAAAAAAGH
>>123377920
>DLC for DLC
That would be some next level shit
>>123378229
well, Charlemagne is more like expansion than DLC
What's the point of seiges past the fact you have to break down their wall ?
Once you have the seige equipment build , there's no purpose in not attacking
Why is the option to seige the city till it surrenders even there? I know thats how it was in history but be real
How many times have you seige a city into surrender ?
>>123377920
Well at least CA is not paradox to make DLC for DLC
>>123378229
If it was one that expanded the map to the Byzantines, the splintering Abbasids, and other slavs I wouldn't mind. Course, CA never
So this is probably going to be the last campaign pack for Attila, isn't it?
>>123364448
This memer is single handedly delaying the reveal of vampire counts with his constant memeing.
>>123378430
In Attila their walls start crumbling down if you siege for longer periods of time, if you wait long enough the enemy will eventually run out of supplies and attack you in the field so you don't have to fight a siege battle
>>123373715

>a few turns later enemy sallies out and I fuck them up in an open battle
EZ.
>>123378430
I always try and starve and force the enemy into engaging me in a field battle in shogun 2
I dont think they ever outright surrendered tho
Does Himyar get any special events like the hunt for spice / breaking free from the Sassanid rule like Aksum and Lakhmids get? All i've got so far is the game asking if i want to spend 500 jewbucks to repair a dam
>>123378430
In the Attila it's mostly pointless since they go on forever, but in some of the older ones I sometimes found it worthwhile to just wait it out to reduce casualties. If it's only 3 or 4 turns I think it's better to wait.
In Attila it's worth doing if the army garrisoned inside has attrition but you don't. If you're armies are evenly matched it's a good way to weaken them before a fight.
>>123378616
*CA never does that for their campaign packs
Playing Third age with DaC as isengard
>wiped out rohan, and isengard is spewing out doomstacks
> the ring has been spotted in an elf city up north
>mineminemineminemine
> march lurtz and and stack up north to kill those damn elves and take the ring
> finally get to the city,
> i have more guys, but the autoresolve says its about 40:60 infavor of the elves
> will be a hard fight but i can still win, iv won in worse conditions
> its a forest map, the kinda where you cant see the units half the time behind all the trees
fuck, its been fun lurtz, give em hell before the end takes you
First shot of Sylvania for any of you interested.
Looks spooky, what do you guys think of the fact that they got rid of the cities expanding on the campaign map feature that Attila and Rome II had?
>>123378430
sieging seems pretty worthless in attila and rome 2, it takes so fucking long to starve anybody out, and with limited armies, you have to use a single full one to siege
>>123379858
Don't miss the opportunity, send more units after you lose (or maybe win).

If possible try this tatic, for orc factions, when i use it atleast it's pretty effective
> wargs/trolls up front
> berserks behind them
> orc raiders and orc bands and the weaker ones behind berserkers
> then urk-kai units behind those
> othalic guard at the back
In a seprate formation farther back
> archers up front
> one unit of orcs or irks
> atillary in the back
Where the general is depends on how good ans what kind , weaker generals I'll but in the back by the archers, generals like lurtz I'll put in the the urks in the forward formation.

>>123383367
Came to ask this.
>>123383367
Rome 2 has a better setting and I'd prefer it to attila, but from a purley gameplay and technical standpoint attila is mIles ahead
If you get rome 2, Get the DEI mod
R2 DEI>Attila>vanilla rome 2
>>123383662
>DEI
>50 skirmishers trying to kill one guy with a buckler . webm
>>123383662
Also attila is MUCH more difficult then rome 2, even with DEI
If it's your first total war then get rome 2 with DEI
>>123383367
Rome 2 was rubbish on release, but they did a lot of work so if you like the time period it might be worth playing
Attila is great, it's my favorite Total War.
I thought it was harder to get into and more complicated than the other though
DLC wise Sandpeople and Longbeards are best for Attila, maybe Celts if you want to be a bong, Viking Forefathers are not too great. I have not played Last Roman

Mail is still predominant sort of armor. A lot of manuscripts show what seems to be scale but there is debate as to if it is scale, artistic license or whatever. There are also depictions of lamellar but it's rare.
Helmets are still largely spangenhelms but some of the first one piece iron helmets start appearing towards the end of the Charlemagne era (9th century). Coifs are becoming more common. You see arm and leg armor widely attributed - Charlemagne himself wearing it on his forearms and 'thighs' while others are noted for choosing not to wear it on their legs so they can better hop onto the horse.
Attila almost suffers from the same issue I have with S2,
Battle go way to fucking fast, unless your on defensive , by the time formations are in place and everything is good to go it's already over, and either your or the enemy army had mass routed usually the former , there no time to think or devise any sorta strategy

Last Roman is okay. I wouldn't recommend it if money is tight.
The must have DLC is Empires of Sand. Beyond that is just preference. Some people think Blood is required, but I hardly notice the difference. The Celts are good too if you're interested in playing as them. Longbeards aren't necessary, in my opinion, as they're even more German barbars. Vikings is the worst.

>>123399750
Rome 2 was shit at launch, but they did work to fix it.

Attila is great, my favorite Total War.
It's more difficult and complicated to get into compared to other Total Wars though, so I don't know if I would recommend it as a first game in the series.
>>123400919
Sandpeople and Longbeards are the best culture packs, Sandpeople being the better of the two.
Celts can be fun too, they are sneaky fuckers on the battlefield. Viking Forefathers are not very good, and the units are in the game to exterminate, you just can't play as them and there is really no reason to.
Last Roman is a fun campaign if you want to reconquer old Roman clay as Belasarius, but it's not essential or the main reason you are coming to Attila
Karl DLC is coming out soon
>>123400919
It's garbage. Don't buy any of the culture packs, they only add the ability to play as the factions. They're still in the game.

I want Roman Gaul for myself, so I attack a Septimanian stack headed for Burdigala. This draws in the Picts (who have relocated to Gaul), who are allied to Septimania, and I move my northern armies to attack their capital in Belgica.
However, the Varinians, who have been fucking around in the region for a while, attack my stack besieging the Pict capital, and we're forced into a battle against a significantly larger enemey force of Varinians and Picts.
We set up a defensive position near a forest, where we've hidden units to hit them from behind after the main melee begins.

We manage to rout the Pictish army, but the Varinians are just about on us, with heavy missile superiority.
>>123410797
We reform our lines just in time for their arrival, and after they stop to let their missile troops whittle away at us, we countercharge.
The inferior quality of their troops shows itself, and they fall like flies. Their general makes a heroic charge against our cavalry, but the fight is hopeless. The day is ours - we just need to mop up.

Hey guys...
So I recently updated my graphics card. I can pretty much run Rome 2 at max except for that fancy foliage setting, and it cities with max sized armies it lags pretty badly. How does Attila compare? Is it better optimized and will it run better?
I'm mostly worried that Warhammer will run like shit on my computer...that new trailer shows the overland map to be ridiculously detailed.

Back after a break.
The conquest of Gaul is in full force. The Pictish capital has fallen, and in two turns we should wipe out all Geatish holdings outside of Scandinavia.
In the north, the Burgundians have been hanging out around our forward base in Flevum, raiding and pillaging, but avoiding the city. Our king and more soldiers have arrived to reinforce the garrison, and we can now meet them on the field of battle.
The Burgundians are the shitters who declared war on us for no reason, and started our 50-turn diversion of dealing with Germanics instead of raiding the Mediterranean, so I'm going to enjoy this.

You could try befriending the Romans. Then again, in my first campaign as the Visigoths I had a good run wrecking Eastern and then Western Romans, probably because they were being overrun by other barbars.
You could try to establish friendly relations with the Romans, and make an empire in the upper Balkans or in Germania. Alternatively, just hold out of their borders, make friendly, and then strike as soon as the flood hits the WRE.

I'd say the Black Sea and Nomad packs are worth it, those both are pretty interesting playstyles and settings. Pirates are basically half-barbar and half-Greek so not terribly interesting if you've already done something as a Celt. Greeks are very Greek and don't really have the stuff to make for a really fun campaign, kinda gimped on purpose because they basically had no chance in the then-modern Classical era. I will make a small exception for the Greeks, Epirus does have a semi-modern unit loadout and is kinda the designated hard mode of the game because they have the absolute worst starting position. I won't go as far to say Epirus makes the Greek pack worth owning, but if you're an Epiboo they're exactly as you would expect.

Can someone explain to me why the babbies are having a stroke over a pre-order faction when CA has been doing pre-order factions for years
All this shitting on "dlc policy" is ridiculous
And when CA gives an explanation, through sheer stupidity, not looking at it or just willful ignorance they choose not to pay attention and keep whining
CA said that they're giving reviewers and youtubers copies in advance so they can buy it on the day before release for the faction if the feedback is good

No it's because when you install FoTS you also install Shogun 2 and vice versa.
These 3 are the same game, it's just that what you buy affects what is unlocked in-game.

Warscape is the engine used in total war games starting with empire/napoleon
The games before are pre-wrapscape
Warscape is ok, the visuals are pretty good, but compared to pre-warscape it's garbage , in warscape soldiers act more like particle effects then humans , it's feels like a big corprate thing
Pre-warscape , while the graphics are aged , the comat FEELS more viceral, even without any blood effects , body actully stack up and it actully has some basic physics going on

The only real thing that bothers me is how hard it is to mod and the most recent games using it. I still can't play Rome 2, it feels so weird and everything is floaty as fuck.

Managed to negotiate a peace with Franks and it seems most of the celt factions are also at war with Gaul (no fucking idea why Gaul decided to start shit with me then) so hopefully they'll deal with it. In the mean time I'm going to get comfy in the ruins of the roman empire and try and expand my hordes in time to deal with the separatists.

Get the hang of horse hewers, they are your best anti-horse infrantry, but they require you to be attentive and use their ability to adequately deal with a charging foe. You have poor skirmishers, but really good infrantry. Due to your position, you are one of the first barbars to face off against atilla. So build up accordingly.
How can you tell how much money a metsuke is making you in a province?

>>123527886
There are two events that unlock the middle and high tiered units for every faction. I'm not sure on the specific turn numbers on which they triffer but from memory they are around 20 and 50. For every turn after those you have a chance for the event to fire.

Eh, I'll pass.
I got Attila after some good suggestions from this general, and it being on sale made it a good deal.
But fucking hell, is there any mod that fixes this broken-ass pathfinding, and combat system? Troops just rout randomly, and a lot of the time the troops will just instantly rally back, but having been routed now they will have been flanked, thus they will rout just as quickly again, and rally back until they fucking scatter.
For some reason, my troops kept routing because they had to go up a hill. They were still fresh, and undamaged, but going up a hill kept routing them.
Are there mods to fix this? I've already played it more than 2 hours, so I can't refund it, so, might as well try to deal with it.
>>123540862
what faction and difficulty?
>>123540936
I played on Normal at the time, and while testing out various factions, so there are no modifiers. As for factions, Langobards, Saxons, Franks, Geats and Himyar. I didn't "play"-play the games after the first time this happened, as I needed to test this shit out, and I could reproduce this shit over and over again. Which I could.
>>123540862
hahahaha he actually fell for it good work lads
>>123540862
I have never heard of anyone having a problem with pathfinding in atilla. The only time I hear people complain about it is in regards to M2 and rome. Morale is a trickier beast in this game, especially if you are facing an army that has units that induce fear. They also need a time to recoup after stopping routing, charging towards the enemy will just cause them to rout again. The uphill routing sounds like a bug, report it to CA is the best advice I can give you. I have never heard of anyone report something like that in this thread. If you want a mod that makes units have iron resolve in the face of everything, try fall of the eagles.
>>123541275
Those faction's early units have shit for morale and most of the early game is not focused on expansion in Atilla. You raid and pillage until you get your tier two units then start striking out with larger armies. This is of course different for the empires. There are morale modifiers out the ass in this game.
>>123541275

>>123542084
I don't want to play as niggers and franks still route when running up hills.
>>123542163
Well, when one unit routs, it can cause chain routs. When you were playing Barbar factions were you using the Germanic Band unit at all? They have fucking awful morale, so if you have too many of them, then they're just going to break and run easily, and might cause a rout.

>>123542321
He is trying to find out why you might be misunderstanding why something is routing, because no one has every had this issue. Have you tried validating the game cache? If it is happening as you describe, your units shouldn't be routing and no one has ever come across this bug as far as I have researched through google.
>>123541503
Pathfinding problems being, I can't make things go at all where I want. I even lost a battle because I wanted my spearmen to go up a hill where the AI was obviously going to go for a downhill cavalry charge, but they insisted on, no matter where or how I clicked, that they should go around the entire fucking slope. Which I didn't account for, so when I turned around, the cavalry came and they routed immediately. Not even right-click drag positioning worked at the time. I tried this at various other points, and it just seems that the pathfinding breaks around any incline.
>>123541828
No, only once was this in an actual siege and I made sure to take care of the towers first. I've played Medieval 2 and their bombard towers, I know to take care of those fuckers first.
>>123542084

>>123542416
Nah, not experience. Well, they can earn exp over time and be better soldiers, but upgrading is different. Look at your tech tree, the military one to be specific. Read the technology and some of the technology will unlock a new military building (for better troops) or allow you to upgrade an older troop into a new troop type. Once you research that tech, though, you lose the older unit completely, and can only recruit the newer troop types.
>>123542416
you need to upgrade them by going down the tech tree. start with spearmen as your main army
>>123542574
Sounds stupid af tbá h
>>123542516
Well, with Charlemagne coming up (if you bought it), a Frank campaign might be worth doing simply because Charlemagne was a frank. Jewish Himyar are a great military faction, but Aksum have some great bonuses to trade (and more money means more troops/armies), and they can get a great axe infantry unit when doing their spice trade questline against the Sassanids.
>>123542516
You can't move over certain terrain, check your map.
Is there a right way to do offensive siege battles?
I can do 10x better than the auto-resolve prediction on field and defensive siege battles, but I am lucky to complete an offensive siege with a better result than the auto-resolve.
>>123542516
Were they in a control group? because issuing a command to a control group will cause them to stay in that exact formation unless you have chosen a new one since creating the group. It annoys the hell out of me.
Was there some impassable terrain you might not have seen? I haven't really had issues with pathfinding myself. I have put in over 200 hours into the game, but it still doesn't mean there are bugs or stuff I haven't encountered myself.
I have seen the pathfinding choose an easier path before. If you clicked on the other side of the hill and it would have been quicker for the infrantry to round the hill that might have been what happened. Though if this is the case the arrow would have changed to their new path right after you ordered them so you would know.

>>123546817
You place archers on the walls. Even Ashigaru archers will often do well. Once you see people start climbing the walls, pull the archers back and replace them with Yari Samurai/Ashigaru and have the archers still deal with the archers outside. If they start coming up in more numbers, send your Samurai Retainers in to help. Keep your General(s) just at the range so they can get bonuses for Inspire/General Nearby/Rally, but not being in the battle themselves.
Or you could just invest into Stand and Fight, and win every siege ever, no matter the odds.
>>123546925
Well that worked better then what I was doing at first but I took a lot of casualties when the ai parked its archers outside of my range and then peppered those poor lads under the wall.
>>123547519
I don't know if it's just me but I can't get archers behind the wall to be effective at all.
>>123547873
>have the archers still deal with the archers outside
This is what I'm having trouble dealing with. The ai sits its own archers so that they are hitting my walls at their absolute max range which leaves any of my archers behind the walls unable to shoot back assuming that both units have the same range.
Even then when there are things within their range I've found that archers behind the wall don't shoot half of the time.
>>123547914
Obviously numbers count here.
The way i play sieges is to treat them like field battles with walls for your archers to hide behind. Sally your melee/cavalry to flank the enemy when they start to.engagr your spearmen. So that means play hold and flank, and kill their general first.
>>123547747
Also you have matchlock ashigaru turn1 that make sieges a win 90% of the time
>I never got why otomo has hard start rating
probably because eveybody hates you, your Daimyo starts with only 2 honor, which results in a public order penalty and that you start at war with 2 other factions that have each 2 provinces
>>123548127
Strategically.though its easy. You block one route with your ships and then steamroll the other one

In my experience matchlocks are accurate enough and have a negative morale bonus to the point that sieges from ashigaru are easily winnable.

I want to redeem Italy senpai.

>>123544035

>>tfw no Great War mod for FotS
WasnÂŽt there a WW1 mod in the workshop?
Thoughts on new trailer families?
How do I use line infantry in FotS? I'm used to Empire where they would just rout everything before it could even reach
In FotS they get fucked by spears
>>123553931
Are you using those early tier levy infantry units?
Because those wont easily rout incoming melee charges
The higher tier line infantry can easily rout the best samurai units in 2-3 volleys
>>123553931
Later line infantry will do that but you can't really count on levy infantry for shit.
Which is weird because I imagine 19th century rifles did a lot more damage than 18th century muskets, which sure a shit couldn't destroy a unit before it got within melee range.
Anyone know why my tatw dac looks like this? There is no year or no season displayed.
>>123554318
>>123554132
I started as Saga, tore down the traditional dojo and built a cadet school
The unit is actually called "line infantry"
They don't kill enough of an incoming yari unit to not get fucked
How fares my Bactrian Kingdom?
Whald should I do and stike next? Also any tips or what good troops tuse?
If been using long pixelings to hold off horses and skirmers to get them when they are running
Then I send in the hurch archers and heavy to do the job
>>123522642
Ok will do, thanks
>make the pagan semitism shrine in Zafar as Himyar
>make priests
>the priests' conversion goes towards Judaism
>they are Magus'
>mfw
Why.
>>123557790
Did you convert to semetic paganism before recruiting the priest?
>>123558069
Yes. Before I had that building, I had no priests, and was unable to recruit priests.
>>123558112
No but did you change your factions religion to semetic paganism. The religion priests depends on the state religion.
>>123558218
Aha. Therein lies the problem. I was assuming it worked like it did previously, but apparently it did not. Alright, thank you.
>>123556084
Anyone want to help me? I went to expand over the causus but keep getting raped
>>123553931
Try out the US marines son
>>123555227
Try to finish the turn and see if it changes
>>123547914
charge them with your yari samurais, they're basically cavalry.
>>123547747
On legendary they're hard if you don't rush hard and capture 3 provinces in the first 2 turns.
>>123550353
>To simulate the fact that TeppÅ weren't easily obtained/manufactured, during this period
Some estimates show Japan outproducing every country in Europe in terms of early firearms, what the fuck is he smoking?
How exactly does castle bombardment work in FotS?
I have a fleet that apparently has moderate chance to do high damage to a settlement
I had to reload a few times because I fucked up a battle, and each time I reloaded, my fleet never managed to do shit to the settlement
>>123561696
the fuck if I know but most of the stuff on that list is retarded
I only use it because it nerfs the reload time of matchlock units into the ground
i'm used to bad AI in TW games but shittila is a whole new level
>vandals offer me money to help them fight illyria which sprouted up in virunum
>"oh, cool, this will be easy, we can hit them together and kick their ass"
>vandals proceed to spend six turns and counting encamped right next to sopianae despite me setting virunum as a coordination target
>illyria makes a fullstack that is now chasing me across the continent
fucking dumb
750th post belongs to me
>>123566590
Congrats anon, I'm proud of you! Have some best girl.
>>123566891
Thank you anon, but my heart is already taken
>>123567327
There can only be one.
I just grabbed Atilla and the DLC minus Charlemagne. What mods are essential for my experience? The link in the OP is helpful, but with the options available I'm not sure.
>>123568749
Play vanilla first
>>123568909
I have played all the TW games up to this point pretty extensively so a vanilla experience seems predictable to me. I"ll try it first though.
