I finished LISA the Joyful immediately after the painful, and it occured to me, without the Joyful, are Buzzos motivations just completely unknown? It seems that without the added narrative at the end of the Joyful, Buzzo just seems to be a dick to Brad for no reason. Am I missing something or is the narrative of the game somewhat incomplete without the Joyful.

Another thing I didn't really like was that we learn nothing about Lisa in the painful. She might as well not have been in the game, she had so little to do with it. Considering Dingaling saw the Joyful as a sequel of sorts, it feels like the painful was almost incomplete as a story, requiring the sequel for things to make any sense.

That's the problem here. No one here tries to get out of their circlejerking, everyone wants to talk about their favorite game (popular or not) instead of contributing to /indie/ or even playing other games at all, even if most of the recommendations posted are free. Because of that since the first thread we had only one new pastebin and the ones we already have are not being updated at all. We have lists of indie games rotting in past threads and most anons literally have to wait days to get a reply about anything.

I understand everyone have different tastes, but why not be more open minded and take fifteen minutes to play a game some anon posted, or even one minute to ask him about it? I'm not saying we should not talk about our favorite games here, on the contrary it's great we can have discussions about them and this is what makes /indie/ our safe haven and the best fucking general ever. Also banning any discussion (anything at all to be honest) or being no fun allowed here is absolutely stupid and retarded. But if we continue like this there'll be no home for any of us because this inertia will kill /indie/ for good.

The way I currently have the design set up I intend to make mechanics cryptic and esoteric to fit with a kind of occult theme. The player learns more and more about the systems in the game through playing it and reading through the lore and history of the world and its inhabitants.
So mostly discussion about findings and discoveries about the setting and mechanics I guess.

You see a young Buzzo in Brads martial arts class and if you beat Pain mode Dusty (Rando) tells Brad basically that Buzzo sawed his face off for "her" meaning Lisa.

Also info about Lisa was at first irrelevant. All we needed to know was she was Brads sister, was sexually abused by Marty, and Brad felt guilt about not saving her.

It's a secret bot you unlock by getting a wrench. To get a wrench you first must get 6 items on the night phase, give them to the Delirics, then proceed to end of the stage. After you get it you use it on Amos, unlocking him.
He'll only appear randomly, however he's really useful. He can cause tons of damage and revive your entire party filling your Health/Strike/Energy thingys.

The only time Brad could have turned back knowing Buddy wasn't going to be raped or killed was during the final battles, and that's when Joy kicked in big time, due to no fault of his own (Buzzo forcefeeding him the stuff).

Dingaling even backpedaled in the DLC and showed how Brad taught Buddy to kill, but it makes PERFECT SENSE to do that. Olathe is a kill or be killed world, a million times so when you're the only female alive.

Every time Brad actually fucked up was under the influence of Joy. The only exception is the bulldozer segment, but I don't know what to make out of it. It's played as seriously as the motorcycle minigame where you run over the masked nonames, and the builders might as well have been another gang who would've tried to kill Brad over their TNT anyway.

I have a strong dislike for pixel art that doesn't look like anything at all and is just pronounced pixels for pronounced pixels' sake. See pic related because I can't quite put it into words.

Undertale looks like it would pass for a NES game if it was closer to the platform's palette limitations, and LISA had an unique artstyle that was only pixelated because Dingaling lacked tools to make anything more refined (he's doing a vectored artstyle for his new game).

Meanwhile your pic could easily have a smoother vector artstyle but instead it's le pixels because it's le indie retro and it doesn't look remotely like it would belong on any retro console. It has nice detail, but the way the character looks makes me irrationally angry.

Yeah I get what you mean. I like 'le retro pixels', and I like when devs break the rules and incorporate modern lighting effects. Maybe it's because of my le nostalgia.

I do also really like hand drawn stuff. But vector art looks shit to me. I also hate when game art looks like south park. Like all the limbs are obviously tweening around. It's hard to explain, I think braid did it. It just looks awkward.

I disagree, it depends entirely on what the game is going for. Something can be stylized and pixelated, although I see what you mean by some games being pixelated just to look "retro" in the vague sense and not try to evoke a specific era.

Many great point and click games try to go for the classic Lucas-Arts style and it's awesome. Primordia, Dropsy, and Gemini Rue for example all pull it off effortlessly. Read Only Memories looks more NES, but it's another fine example.
Undertale is supposed to look like Earthbound, and LISA is supposed to be like an SNES era JRPG.
There are countless other examples too.

Pretty much all elements count. Visuals are extremely important in some cases.

Dropsy, Machinarium, and Botanicula are great games with great stories, but they don't have any writing, like at all. Dropsy uses shapes, pictures, and the environment to tell the story, and Machinarium and Botanicula use almost exclusively visuals to tell their stories.

It's like a side scrolling counter strike crossed with warioware. It's really hard to describe, even that isn't that good of a description. The goal is to be the last one standing, and rounds last 15 seconds to 2 minutes only.

Can someone recommend a good survival / resource management game, in the vein of Don't Starve and This War of Mine? Nuclear Throne is top down perspective. It's much much faster game play compared to BOI/ROR, more akin to Hot line Miami where you can easily rush through an entire level in seconds. I havn't played it in a while but the game play about a year ago was highly dependent on luck vs skill. If you run out of a specific type of ammo or get shit weapons or shit level up options you'll be irredeemably fucked. It's quite fun but BOI/ROR are infinitely better.

Also most discussions here are limited to games we already played since we don't have organized pastebins, so there's no way to find new games to discuss here unless you search them by yourself or heard about them somewhere else, and that makes things a lot harder.

More accurately, it's a frantic twin-stick shooting roguelikeish game based around upgrades (called mutations). The nearest comparison that most people know is BoI, and while less complex I actually find NT more fun. Gets boring after a while, though, much more suitable for a run or two a day than extended play.
