I have this script on a game object that is later instanced to make it seem like the brick is breaking. It only has two components, AudioSource and Animation. The game object is a prefab.

With this fucking script, the fucking animation does not play. It shows the last frame for a sec and then is destroyed. Am I doing something wrong?

Not to talk shit on your game but it seems like every jet fighter game I've seen or played makes the flying seem very slow, be it the actual flight speed or the turning speed. It's not just your game, even stuff like Star Wars games on N64 or gamecube.

Movies make jets or starfighters ridiculously fast where it looks so crazy when they're flying through canyons or death stars and then the enemy fighters chasing them end up crashing and its all high adrenaline rush and action, but in video games, you move so slowly even when you're near the ground. And then games like Ace Combat or your game throw in the camera that locks on to the enemy, so there's even less movement going on and you just kind of sit there watching your jet slowly turn and then they try to slowly turn and lock on to you and it ends up being who can turn slightly faster to start shooting at the other guy.

I can never get into games like this and I wish they made these games look more like f-zero or extreme G or even Sonic Generations where all the speed and action is in your face and you feel like you're really moving at 20,000 miles prower. Not just stuck in the air with a blue background slowly trying to out-turn the enemy.

Good work so far though, it does look like Ace Combat and I hope I'm not coming across as shitting on your game. It's more like I'm shitting on the entire genre I think.

I don't know anything about music at all from an academic standpoint but I know that a good soundtrack can make or break a game, even if it's ostensibly super simplistic 8-bit booping like you'd hear in something like Cave Story.
I'd guess generally what I'd go by is something that you'd want to listen to in and of itself, even completely divorced from the gameplay - although having music that actively complements the gameplay is obviously even better.

Yeah, I've cracked open Game Maker a couple of times just to poke around in the tutorials. I have no idea how good Game Maker is as a program though. Wasn't Risk of Rain made using that? That's actually the style of thing I was thinking about for that monster-hunter style game I was talking about; small player characters coming together to fight a much larger, tougher opponent, with each PC bringing specific skills to the fight (like how the hunting horn gives you all buffs).
Unfortunately like I say I don't really have any coding experience so I'm way, way off from the point where I can do stuff like "Make man who jumps".

I've actually even bought stuff that's probably completely unnecessary like Articy Draft just to help me work on the design side of things, since that feels like all I can do at the moment. Maybe I should just dive in and start trying to make shit for the hell of it, though.

I've run into this phenomena before actually, in online writing circles; if you self-publish on things like Amazon or whatever there's the temptation to price your shit super low to start with just so you can make a name for yourself, but apparently that actually hurts your sales significantly because people instinctively feel like if something is THAT cheap it must also be low quality.
The key it seems is hitting that sweet spot of affordable enough that people on the fence will go "Eh, what the hell" and take the plunge while still being priced highly enough to make a decent profit.

I don't own a mobile phone so I can't test how fun the game would actually be.

Be careful with that or atleast have an option to turn it off. It's one of those things that you easily have too much of and it gets simply annoying.

Even slight 3d improvements would go a long way and better colors will do a lot too. The ground texture sticks out really bad right now. You could also use better shaders and post processing (like AO) to make it look nicer. On top of that animating the characters will be a nice step.

Honestly it seems to play like the most generic top down shooter right now. You might want to think what would make anyone want to play it instead of some other top down shooter.

I despise mobile games and how the media portrays the mobile game business in my country. Just because we have a couple companies making big bucks over there doesn't mean its the messiah of gaming. There's barely any pc or console game companies because of the false hype created by the media and the community that follows it.

The fact is to have any decent chance at breaking through in the mobile market you need some luck and a fuckhuge marketing budget on top of an addictive game that is monetized well.

I created a class "Typewriter" http://pastebin.com/HpepcQ6p. Unfortunately the Stopwatch class is a custom class I use. Basically it is just telling me "Time.time - TimeStartedTyping". This is what I use to get "How many letters from the current string do I want to display"
Then I have a different class for the Monobehaviour http://pastebin.com/GHMMB6iL which I use to control the transitions.

When the current message is done, a new message is started. Haven't done anything past that yet.
