I just added more synergistic minions to my tempo list like teachers and auctioneer and it worked damn well too. I think keeping some of the spells is a good idea since you can get even more flamewaker pings from actually good spells in combination with the free ones that might suck

This worked pretty well for me. Make sure to attack with Healbot first whenever they have a green secret. You get to heal more if it's a freezing trap and get a 7 mana spell for free.

Face hunter can kill secret pally before the challenger is even out, so that's strong, but in my experience control priest with plenty of aoe like circle /lightbomb easily destroys both the aggro and midrange versions. Secret pally struggles with card draw and can't easily come back from an effective board clear.

Recently started playing HS and doing so on a budget. Planned on investing in BRM or Naxx, but decided against it for the sake of giving mech mage a try. This deck is obviously missing at least a Dr. Boom and Antonidas, but are there any glaring mistakes or changes worth making?

I took this deck from 20 to 15 in right around 1 1/2 hours, so it feels decent, but I'm just not able to grasp how out of step with the meta this kind of deck is.

My favorite has been Rogue, using all the combo cards you can't in constructed is so much fun, I mean Tempo Mage is just meh, you get almost the same thing, in Rogue you can cut loose and finally get to play with Shado-Pan Rider and that Sylvanas guy, also not sure if this is a bug but Summoning Stone casts the 0 mana spells as if they were the original casting cost.

Savage Roar is fine. It's the combo with Force of Nature that is a problem.
Ice Block itself is fine. It's a defensive secret and it does its job perfectly. The problem is that that one turn gets you killed with the hell combos.
Tirion is counterable by silence, unlike spells, and you can kill it easily enough.
Highmane is a powerful card, but Hunters don't have that many great late-game minions that are Class-Specific.
Freeze Trap is on the same par as Ice Block.
Scientist is borderline broken because of synergies, but not overly so.
Minibot is fine, it's a Annoy-O-Tron, but with 1 damage more instead of Taunt.
