It's pretty obvious that Papyrus figured something was going on with Alphys for him to sort of give up and send her home so early, although it's also very clear that Flowey's manipulating him to get things moving the way he wants to.
The way I figure this whole encounter went down is that a bit into their jog, Alphys started to choke up on the idea of calling herself great entirely, maybe tells the truth to Papyrus or maybe just tells him that she really wants to go home, alone, and asks him to not tell anybody. Then, while Papyrus is trying to figure out how to deal with the situation he runs into Flowey who gives him the helpful hint to ask the human to go check up on her, so he does that.

Ok, so I have talked with some other people and here's my idea for the visual novel. Tell me how shitty it is, /utg/, wreck my shit

Setting: a quarentine island to which some hundreds of people were sent.
Backstory: Once or twice per century, a strange illness appears and it has become customary to send the infected to a certain island in which they all die after a few years. This time the infected managed to organize themselves and lived for thirty years before one of them created a cure for the disease.
The person who created the cure died, under mysterious conditions, shortly after that. His body was found in a cave in a distant beach.
He was hailed as a hero at first, but quickly the stories of his accomplishments outgrew who he really was. He became more of a legend, a myth, than a real person. At the same time, his very accomplishments are being forgotten and distorted by the many retellings of his story. Let's call him, for now, Senpai.

Plot: The story begins three years after Senpai's death. One night, the MC finds on his doorstep Senpai's ex-bf, seriously injured. He went to visit the cave where Senpai's body was found and was attacked by something. The MC calls Senpai's brother and his apprentice. 2. Senpai's Ex-Boyfriend. They stopped getting along some time after Senpai created the cure. After Senpai's death, received leadership over many of his duties.
3. Senpai's Brother. After the cure, decided to leave the island and travel the world. Returns 3 years later to find his brother dead and wants to know the truth.

Themes: All the characters stories center around how much of themselves they are willing to sacrifice in order to benefit their community. Senpai was someone who gave all of himself to others, and that didn't really work well for him. His apprentice is following on his footsteps, giving up increasingly more valuable aspects of his life for "the greater good." Senpai's ex-boyfriend, though, only wants to get away from this life directed at others and live for himself, but he is now one of the community's leaders. Senpai's brother is trying to reinsert himself on the island and is trying to decide how to live his life.
Another theme is that, despite Senpai's many "heroic" deeds, he was actually a pretty shitty person.

Game Style: Kind of like Hotel Dusk. The story is divided in chapters, an in each one you investigate, gather knowledge and then interrogate someone in order to discover a new aspect of Senpai's story and how he died.
You can either succeed in the interrogation or fail. The game goes on anyway, but the ending depends on how much you fucked up.
In each chapter you also interact with the main cast of characters and that decides who you'll romance.

Branching of the Story:
Of course there'll be dialogue trees.
Some small stuff will change in the story depending on whether you succeeded or not in the interrogations. The ending gets progressively better with each success. So, in terms of branching, the story will be mostly linear until the final chapter and ending.
Also, depending on how you go on with your romance and how it interacts with the story, it may end in differently.

The real reason people dislike Soriel is a lot bigger than "I don't like your ship".

It's that the ship almost exclusively manages to present with incredibly out of character writing, especially for Sans, taking him from a depressive and disaffected individual who can barely muster the will to care to some squishy boytoy, overly earnest romeo, or worse, generic "look at how confident and effortless I am" cool dude. The idea of a post-Underground Sans eventually working his way through the concerns and hangups he mentions in a Genocide run, with Toriel lovingly helping to bring him out of his shell, could be a good premise, and there are lots of ways Sans x Toriel could work, but it's so rare to see it presented by anyone who seems to actually understand the character.

Asgorefags are especially upset by these presentations because they feel the only reason the ship exists is to shit on Asgore. The unfortunate and similarly out of character thing is that a lot of time, that's a major factor. Sans, treated as if "get dunked on" was his catchphrase, is often portrayed rubbing their relationship in Asgore's face, usually without provocation.

Sans x Toriel is not an unreasonable ship. It's intentionally ambiguous but definitely presented as a possibility in the game, and the characters could be fun together. The problem is that not "NO, EPIC DIVORCE MAN HAS TO WIN HER BACK, GET AWAY SKELETON" well for some people it is so much as it is that Soriel is almost never written with any accuracy to the characters involved.
Turns out most shippers can't write fresh romance in a context they weren't already shown without fucking it up.

Soriel has canon roots, in that, like many things, Toby very obviously made it one possible interpretation. Whether they're just friends or are developing something more is never concretely stated one way or another, and it's clear that's by design, just like how Frisk's gender's carefully avoided.
People insisting there's only one way to read it and they MUST BE IN LOVE BECAUSE THEY ENJOY EACH OTHERS COMPANY are either forcing their ship or just have a really bad outlook on how opposite sex relationships have to be. See also >>123375003

The books in the Snowdin library say that the humans's stronger will to kill will make their hit even stronger. In that point of the game, yout character is a bloodthirsty murderer and beyond redemption so you 1 hitting every boss, Asgore included.

I never said it didn't, the only thing I'm pointing out is that it is not a canon ship, like undyne and alphys are for instance, but some people will state it is because it's implied/alluded to in the game. Frankly, I am of the opinion that they are simply good friends. I think toriel would remain more of a single mom type figure, focusing on her teacher position and teaching. Sans is far too laid back to pursue a relationship as well, so it wouldn't progress past texting each other bad jokes and occasional dinner invites IMO. Either way, it is open to interpretation so I can't fault someone purely for shipping them, my only gripe is with the insistence that it's canon.
