I think the Re;birth series is a bad representation of the series as it reuses assets and gameplay more than CH usually does for a Nep game. Honestly, the leap forward of each game is pretty remarkable for CH when one considers Trinity Universe and Cross Edge.

The Rebirth games are all remakes of the first 3 games using the 3rd game's engine. Rebirth 3 is the biggest overhaul of the 3 mechanically, but also has the least amount of new/changed content.

Storywise Rebirth 1 is independent from the others, but at the same time characters from Rebirth 3 appear implying they had crossed dimensions. Rebirth 2 and 3 continue on into Neptunia VII (which MIGHT get a PC release no less than a year after the PS4 version)

Not sure about the DLC pirating. They were separate download files with extra content when I was ripping assets. It's like $6 for the first two and $.99 so it's not a huge added cost.

If you want to go through all three games, I think skipping the Plutia and Peashy DLC might be a good idea, seeing how they have no events whatsoever and you'll play with them in RB3 anyway.

Histy DLC only has an event for her recruitment, if I remembered correctly, so you could forgo it as you can get her in RB2 too.

Most of the game-breaker stuff is pre-loaded in the PC version, which you can just turn off, so you don't need to worry about it.

RB3 Character DLCs are free and full of events, but they are a little more powerful than the norm and it could be daunting to play 28 characters from the start, so you might want to save it for New Game+.

I use it. Picked it up thinking since it changed all the writing, it'd be like playing a different game. I honestly didn't see what the big problem with the translation was, but then again, I don't speak Japanese.

Anyway, it's really good. I prefer the retranslation to the official one. That doesn't mean the official is bad - I don't blame anyone for liking it more - but on a personal level, I just like this one better. This may sound crazy considering the subject matter, but I think retranslation Neptune is much more relatable.
