There's nothing wrong with putting a character in the middle of their quest, the problem is that Poppy's quest is to deliver a hammer to a hero and when she's surrounded by a BUNCH of fucking heroes, she still carries around the hammer like hot shit for one, for two, is even involved in combat with a hammer she doesn't believe she deserves.

Poppy's character lorewise and personality wise is in act 2, where as everything else is already in act 3.

Her body has realized she's the hero because it's already in act 3, so she's doing all the hero shit. Everything else is back in time because riot can't write a coherent character to save their life lately.

Her lore is that she's a fucking delivery girl. At least the old lore explained how Poppy came to use the weapon and how she was given ownership.

Right now she's looking for a hero to wield the hammer while creating magic light barriers and sending people across the fucking map, in a conflict that she herself is voluntarily participating in.

This is why the institute was so important to the lore, because it actually explained why the fuck anyone is fighting in the first place.

For that matter, what happens if you ult somebody from "behind"? If you're coming from their side and charge up your ult, will it do some goofy backwards business? I don't imagine so, but I don't mind being proven wrong.

My point is, what I've gathered from circumstantial evidence is that you will still be able to aim it more or less, and that it doesn't just send champions flying willy nilly.
