I only browse /acg/, if only because it's the most tolerable board. I tried Smash Brothers general, and all they did was talk about how they wanted to sniff Rosalina's farts and lick Peach's feet. Probably. Nothing's really certain.

Pretty much. The subplot only came about in the order missions in V. VD doesn't really do much with its extra missions save for a couple (the one where that Reaper Squad guy ambushes you and the dual AC fight where they mention the other mercs have been culled). VD doesn't really have the big story mode bosses like V did, but it tries to make up for it with the automatons. VD has world bosses like V did, but you can only encounter them on special sortie.

You can half pretend to be one in Verdict Day due to the Vendetta Weapon arms. They're basically large physical blades.

None, there's no faction specific bonuses.

It basically only determines what enemy teams you'll be facing (you'll never face teams of your own faction unless combat drills are turned on).

Sirius is a corporation that appears to be mostly American or European.

Venide is a militant faction that appears to be mostly Russian.

EGF is the smallest faction made up of all the other shitty parts of the world, but its liaisons appear to be Japanese.

All of them are fighting each other because that's what humanity does best. Since its a Fromsoft game, details beyond a basic overview are nil.

Since you're never more than a merc, its doesn't really matter which faction you join aside from what theme plays in the menu.

They burn through ammo and have low defense but their dps is absurd. If it wasnt for karasawa/finger theyd be fully viable choices since in the first 3 all you can put on offhand is blades and outside of the bonus airborne damage they are garbage.

Reaper Squadron is a group of up to four mercenaries. When it's initially created, the game randomly hires four registered mercs to try and form the group. If for any reason you end up with less than four people, likely because someone declined, M0 can spam Simple Hire to try and fill slots. No UNACs. When M0 is ready to roll, he hits the go button and the bar starts. You don't have to worry about resetting this bar because it will only look for human opponents.
Oh, and the "mercs can't communicate" thing is still in effect, so have fun with that whole coordination thing.
