I've had an idea for a while that they could ratchet up the tension in dr3 by introducing non-lethal punishments for lesser crimes in the story.

For example, someone refuses to participate in the trial debate and doesn't speak at all throughout the trial, so they are punished by some horribly thematically appropriate punishment that cuts out their tongue.

But even SDR2 was relatively light-hearted even when things got dark, I think such severe non-lethal punishments might veer DR into something more horrific/horror-based than action murder mystery game. But then again, AE did get a lot darker but still kept some of the wackiness.

They like the series, but they make a LP of a spin off without giving a proper explanation of what the fuck is going on, its like starting to watch Naruto from the 4th war part and ask: This show is about ninjas right?

The series also shared space with a lot of flavor of the month games just Until Dawn and Undertale, so they just suddenly pulled a 180 and started to claim they disliked the series, despite saying the opposite in the first videos, so a shoddy attempt to save face in lieu of hundreds of dislikes.

I thought that the dark parts of AE were diminished because of the wackiness DR usually does. Like the game was being bi-polar, didn't know what it wanted to be. And the game never made you care for the people getting slaughtered in the first place.Like think about a movie that's main focus is genocide and how it makes you feel and compare it to a movie where a bunch of people die, say Death Star blowing up Alderon, and how little you care. Ae felt like it was trying to do both a once. I love the game but I think it went a little to far off its rails.

Most of the time I would agree, just like I hate when a protagonist's main trait is that they are "kind," but I think it works in DR because Makoto is saintlike to the point that his kindness is a praiseworthy trait and I can see people falling in love with him just because he's so sweet to them.

I have to agree, I'd suppose. Fukawa makes a comment in AE about how if Naegi was truly executed, they'd have lost all hope. Not to mention, Naegi is super moe. I guess part of Mukuro's charm comes through with her inability to keep up that charade and this "purity" thing. Not getting double entendres and such. About how she blindly follows orders and rarely thinks for herself. Not to mention militaryfags love her martial arts and use of weapons. I gotta admit she's cute if not boring.

Well, Chihiro is basically a Makoto+1, not that it makes him special, but he alone (unless you count Monokuma's threat as help) managed to pull himself from despair without anyone to help him.

Additionally his children are responsible for making the Ultimate Hopes turn into Ultimate Hopes.

AEgo second sacrifice made Naegi to untake the bullet for the team, allowing him to turn into Ultimate Hope.

Chiaki saved Hajime from his dark self, a feat Naegi didn managed to pull off, also, its not impossible to belive Alter Ego made a copy of her before her death, explain the sudden giving up on end, it was all fine, big bro had a plan.

Chihiro for True Ultimate Hope? Junko needs a equal rival, but seeing as she is dead, Chihiro fits the bill.

UHope to me is like UDespair, a state of being, having overcome their past selfes and turn into better persons, Naegi and Hajime were able to turn in UHopes, i just gave Chihiro a honorable mention because just like Junko he start getting really awesome once he is beyond the grave.

After all, just how Junko have several UDespair under her influence, wouldn have been nice to see the all of the warriors, not as Ultimate somethings, but as Ultimate hope each?

I didn't hate Chiaki (or Chihiro), but going into DR2 I was kinda excited to have a game without Kyoko holding your hand the entire time. Still Chiaki wasn't that bad; tbfh she was 3rd most capable after Hajime and Nagito. In DR1 Kyoko and Makoto are miles ahead of Byakuya.

Chiaki gimmick seems kinda disnessary, the characters in DR2 appear to be smarter and than their DR1 counterparts, if they all really tried like Nagito wanted, they could solve the cases without Chiaki, but again, the characters are dumbed down so that the plot relevant charaters can do their actions.

While Kirigiri was purely a plot related character and thus was needed, because Makoto didn felt like investing the plot,a type of thought that fits Kyoko better, the DR2 cast seemed to be competent enough to pull their own weight, i feel like Chiaki pulling a Kirigiri kinda weighted down the experience.

I am not saying Kirigiri or Chiaki were bad characters, but the cases of DR1 is just Makoto, Kiri and Togami investigating while shaking everyone like a salt shaker for clues, and it was kinda shitty of writers to make another power trio.

Its like DBZ, anyone who isnt Goku or Vegeta can only watch the fight, if they passed the investigator torch for the characters, it would have been fine, but it was Hajime, Chiaki and Nagito doing the investigation, while everyone either reacted or gave some minor clue about it.

Its not that bad, but its not great, its just okay, since we didn have an actual detective, it would have been nice to see some character performing a bigger role in the investigation.

Sayaka had it coming. It's an alternate timeline karmic redemption. I was happy that they spiced up her character through her murder though. A teen idol who's supposed to maintain very good image (no dating, no smoking, no drugs ever with highly intensive at times per-choreographed dances, CDs, ect) who was set up to be Naegi's assistant and the only student he believed he knew prior gave us the most shocking bait-n-switch. It really shows how much little confidence she had in her other classmates and her fragile she was. I believe she's more of a carnivore girl than Mukuro however.

I find Sayaka more interesting than Mukuro because I understand Sayaka's motivation. Other than that they're both women who had been putting up a facade to hide their true intentions. Plus I love how you can see little peeks into the true Sayaka after the first motive.

Also Sayaka had the worst School Mode stuff because I figured Sayaka, if stripped of all the mystery, would end up being a shitty boring character. So I was pleasantly surprised that she was written pretty well in IF.
