The low speed is because of the regular electric motor. Actual cars have a large electric motor, which rises the speed exponentially.
I wouldn't use a broken minireactor though. Not 100% safe.
Plus that thing consumes the most important resource in the game when you can just slap 10 solar panels on it to get power for fucking free

Skim towns. You'll find a jack or duct tape eventually and get a vehicle going. You can setup a static base or work out of your vehicle. Using morale books, skill up killing easy zombies on the edges of town mapping stuff like pools, setup makeshift/leather funnels before you sleep or when you do anything that takes a lot of time and it's drizzling or better and forage for food. In time you'll get a lot of the basic tools and eventually be ready to make a vehicle welder. Then you can just put in 2 V12's, some redundant equipment, make a 3,4 thick spiked plating ram up front with spikes on the back bumper and sides then zoom in doing donuts. Wont get stuck cause of your absurd accel and redundancies.

You shouldn't be anywhere near brute+ zombies without being in a solid set of protective clothing and having at least aspirin and a bottle of booze if not medium painkillers. Pain kills.
For corossives, have a good set of armor,weapon, dodge, and have spent time skilling up in melee. By taking painkillers your speed will keep up and you'll only lose || off your legs if you keep moving off the acid. You can use nailboard traps, bear traps in a shopping cart you refit with a cargo carrier off of a pickup truck once you find duct tape. Can also make a checkerboard of spiked pits though that's pretty reliant on having a solid food source first.

Both are different elements of skill. I think the consistency of a high winrate in a procedurally generated game is more important myself since it shows extreme tactical and strategic strength.
I doubt anyone would argue that elliptic is a better player than 4thArraofDagon or simmarine- for an example with well-known players.

PCB is kind of not my style due to the overland and the huge options. I like just going down one dungeon with one goal.
That being said, all the info I find is generally very outdated. I need tips mostly dealing with the town aspect, as I'm not familiar with the idea of being able to do back up and replenish supplies. I never know what to prioritize.
Is there any way to have food and drops increased in the dungeon and make going back up not an option?
Or perhaps removing the option to go back up a floor?

Fema camps are nice for the free fence. Making a log wall, bookcase wall, a derelict vehicle wall, or vehicle welding a massive wall of wood frames and boards/steel frames and boards takes like a year to protect your crops from getting smashed through. The concrete lab lets you store your valuables safely. The beds provide ample cloth to make shit. Bunch of barbed wire is a plus for reinforcing your base(s) once you chuck it in your ride.

Yeah. Leather is pretty much trash. The only thing good about it, is that in emergencies where you've been cut off from your home/RV you can forage for containers then cut up your leather clothing or leather zombie clothing to make a carpet of leather funnels and small containers to keep yourself barely above dying. Makeshift funnels req a good vending machine find or good recovery from a store or bunch of homes that you emptied cough syrup into tubs and other shit into constructed kegs for. The makeshift aren't all that good either, especially since they use up the very already complete containers you need to gather and hold clean water, but as long as you aren't using the water to cook food or shit like sealed stomach's you'll have enough to not be dehydrated and maybe squirrel some away for long breaks from rain.

Small cave - die soon unless I go deep, last time I did so I reached floor 6 dark room with no torch and had to go back and die in SMC anyway. Go south - die to hydra. Go south and pass hydra - get to dungeon with lots of teleport traps and no stairs down. Go past that - die in passage. Go past passage - die to temple bugs. I remember years ago I've reached arena somehow, but no matter what pastas I read I can't find any tips on that.

Think about when you're hitting someone in crawl with a dagger. every time you hit you use half a turn, or 5 auts. Every time you move you use 1 turn, or 10 auts.
Now, think about how haste works. You are faster and you can move at different speed from enemies because you take several auts less than they do.
That's how PCB works. You can get to speed +99, you could technically translate that to 1 aut (or 0.1 turns) to move and take an action. Every 10 points of speed you get an aut reduction.
is that clear enough?

At 10 speed that's 50 turns. At 30 speed that's 25 turns. At -10 speed that's 300 turns.
Then there's some slight randomization each time you move so it's not entirely consistent. This applies to monsters as well.

One game turn is the shortest amount of time possible in the game. No matter how high your speed is, you cannot walk two tiles in a single gameturn.
In the *bands, players and enemies gain some "energy" each gameturn, depending on (but IIRC not identical to?) the creature's speed. When their energy reaches 100 (let's just say...I think it really is 100 but it could be some other number), they take an action on that gameturn and lose a bunch of energy.
Some actions use up more energy than others. For example, humans and demigods can use their racial mutation to pick up the Speed Reader trait, which makes reading scrolls cost them a lot less than a normal full turn of energy. This means they fill up on energy sooner since they didn't fully deplete, so they take a second turn sooner. Some things take MORE energy than normal, e.g. walking through a tree tile as opposed to an empty tile. That's why centaurs are able to have an ability to "move through forests quickly" or whatever it's called...they don't pay the extra energy cost to do that.

Yes. Every time you attack you do hits = to your blows in a single turn (however long that takes you). (unless you use ranged attacks)

Yes, you can attack twice for each time an enemy attacks if your attacks cost half as many oats.

yes, you can totally do this. PCB speed, unlike most (but not all) *bands, is semi-randomized, in that you don't always gain the exact same amount of energy per gameturn, so you can't fully predict turn order. But overall on average yes you can kite slow enough monsters like this.
An easy way to test this at level 1 is to fight a snake. Most snakes start at -10 speed and most players start at +0 speed. You can usually hit a snake, move away, and then wait one turn. The snake spends its full turn approaching you, and then you can hit it and move away again. You'll notice it doesn't always happen identically b/c of the randomized element, but it's still very handy. This is also what makes fast monsters so dangerous...the wargs on the Warg quest for example are often able to move and attack before you can act, or move many tiles, or attack many times. This gets especially nasty with lategame high-speed casters, which can, say, cast slow, cast confusion, cast summon ancient dragons and teleport away all before you can act, if your speed is low enough (especially if they manage to stick a slow effect),

It's very difficult to get one by grinding/scumming. Almost impossible.
The only way to get one reliably is to either get a wish by quaffing pools or graverobbing, both of which are limited resources not to mention dangerous. Ironforge itself is where most people quaff pools, and it's especially dangerous with no teleport and steel golems crawling about the place. Digging up graves has a good chance of spawning high level liches, which can ruin your shit.
It's like killing Morgoth in Sil. If you find what you need to kill him, good. If not, you just move on and go for a normal win.

The orc wizard, you should have memorized and used sticks to snakes ahead of time. Also mind the cold vulnerability from the Ring of fire
The potion of poison, you should have had and used sticks to snakes to avoid getting so hurt you needed to quaff for healing in the first place. Your breathe weapon wasn't on cooldown.
The adder deaths, you're supposed to use sticks to snakes twice, hoping for at least 1 ball python, then try appendage and punch.
D:4 iguana is a bit much. Especially since you haven't gotten additional dodge and have no sticks to snakes up
Spear gnoll you should have just NOPE'd instead of getting hit by reaching attacks. At worst, backed up and used sticks to snakes to get some help
Halberd gnoll, should have had sticks to snakes to help. Gnoll packs can wear you down so you have to be careful. Could also have had Might and HW id'd as you have more than one to quaff-id

Some things have been smoothed out but it's intentionally largely the same. The goal with the shift to the latest major version was to totally restructure the code to make it less of a pile built piecemeal by generations of maintainers. The game will be infinitely better if elec and blowguns are nerfed, they trivialize a large portion of the game. There is nothing as crutchy.
Elec proc chance needs to be weapon skill based or have a reduced base, blowguns need to be far more time to fire at no skill - if one took 1.5 auts to fire at 0 throwing I think they would be far more balanced while still being good. Right now they're broken as can be

How do you play Archmages in ToME? Either I die early (<10 XP) to something with ranged attacks and enough HP to take a few spells, or I die late (>10 XP) to something that can Stun/Silence/Daze me.
I once got an Archmage to level 20, but I found a rare/unique demon-thing that, in the space of one turn: moved into view, saw me, teleported me to him, silenced me, and hit me for 1/3rd of my HP.
I died, 3 turns later.
Here's how I build my Archmage: All stat points go into Magic and Willpower.
All talent points max out my lightning spell, then my fire spell, then the arcane spells. If I last long enough to take all of those to 5/5 (literally one time so far) I unlock the Meta tree and start putting points in that.
All generic points go first into maxing out my Blink spell, then they go into unlocking the entire Aegis tree. If I'm playing a race with good racial skills, like Highers, I put points into those. Else, they go into maxing out the Aegis passives, then the Aegis spells.
I choose gear based on whether they give bonus HP or the ability to survive past 0HP, then bonus stats, then spellpower, then resists.
Am I missing something really simple?

- If you have gear you can wear or swap on to boost your magic stat to meet the demands for the next levels of skills, prioritize willpower to get more mana so you can run more sustains and cast more spells
- Unlock temporal before meta to get time shield, and when you've got enough mana get essence of speed to go fast
- You only need 4/5 in phase door as AM, because the category level is high enough to give you controlled blink with just 4 points. Also only 1 point in teleport is usually enough, and the last two skills are shit.
- If you went Higher for race, their racial tree only needs 1/3/1/4-5 points
- Until you have extra generic points to spend, the aegis tree only needs 1/4/1/3 or something, then a bit later when you have some spare points 1/5/1/5, and get a shielding rune instead of a regen infusion
If you want to wrek shit go for 4/1/5/5 in Fire and 1/5/3-5/5 in Wildfire (unlock Wildfire with second category point and only put more points in cleansing flames after getting the tree to 1/5/1/5), no need to bother with arcane or aether.

I have never run out of mana, even when I'm spamming my spells just as soon as they come off cooldown. I always take Disruption Shield to 5/5, but I've never had a chance to use it because my mana never went below 25%. I use all the sustains I can, but even with 3 (that +spellpower one, an Aegis tree one, and another I forget) up at the same time I have around 250-300 mana by XP 15.
I will try Temporal though; that seems like a good idea now that I've actually looked at the tree.
And thanks for the advice about spending points; while your suggestion for Higher racials was pretty much what I did already, I didn't know that 4/5 was enough for a controlled blink.

Stacking a lot of mana is mostly for few reasons:
1. Being able to use Essence of Speed as soon as possible, the sustain cost is huge but it's a ton of permanent global speed
1.5 Later when you get your third and fourth category point you'll want to unlock Meta too, so you get access to Quicken Spells which is pretty expensive to sustain too.
2. Proofing yourself against manaburn, if you lose all your mana you lose all your sustains, which is extremely bad on archmage. The enemies with mana burn tend to crit with it like motherfuckers and chunk off huge amounts of mana from you.
3. The previous points combined so you need even moar mana
Also extra spellpower has diminishing returns but the extra willpower for more mana doesn't.

Fame affects quest difficulty and monthly salary, karma is what determines if guards attack you, pretty sure that's sub 20. You can use an Incognito kit to temporarily break aggro and sneak to the boards to do quests, or you could do quests in Derphy where there are no guards since each quest gets you +1 karma.
Or you could die to the guards while having less than -30 karma because that gives you some karma I think.

Yes there are, though they're rare. There's scrolls which do the same thing except they're better at it, and you are guaranteed to get some each game, so you probably want to use those instead since the potions can be used todo large amounts of damage and remove the most dangerous abilities of the final boss by throwing them.
