>>

How do you play with so few mods.
>>
>>122713314
Look at tundra tiles, there should be a section which prevents you from building farms on tiles without fresh water. You can probably duplicate it for desert tiles.
>>
>>122713916

Thankyou, my plan is to make a mod where farms can't be built on waterless desert tiles and can be built on hills while also only allowing mines to be built on actual resources. Might need to buff mines production boost though.
>>
>>122714181

Only on actual resources*
>>
>>122714181
Remember that waterless desert wheat exists, so make sure you can still build a farm on those tiles.
>>
>>122714954

I never play randomly generated maps so it wouldnt be a problem. But I'll just stop it from spawning on desert alltogether.
>>
>>122713759
Bit of a shitter who likes playing MP, makes the dive into the serious balancing and enhancing mods a bit pointless.

>>
How the fuck do you culture victory in deity.
I tried like 3 times but these niggers always force me to switch to science victory because they just generate such a kekload of culture and my tourism cant keep up at all
>>
>>122715607
Why would you want desert to have even fewer food tiles? Also, desert wheat will undoubtedly appear on some custom maps.
Another issue that comes to mind, is that your change will potentially make Petra even more unbalanced. It would make flat desert plains that you can't build farms on, but you can get a 3F 3P tile on every hill tile you have.
>>

>>
>>122716361

To force AI who are in deserts to expand along the coast+rivers and not found millions of shitty desert cities and turn the Sahara into a disgusting buggy mess of green farms. I also have a seperate mod that disalows cities to be founded on waterless desert tiles.

I modded wonders out of the game and all custom maps I play on are edited or made by myself to work with my mods.

Personally, I think the wonder system needs to be reworked. It's retarded that two civs completely separated can block each other from building a wonder.

>>

They won't be able to found cities on desert tiles unless it is on the coast or on a river or next to a lake/oasis.

I play Civ V on emperor, so I'm a scrub but I know how to play 4x games generally, what is the best way to get into Endless Leg-ends? What factions are the most straightforward to a Civ junkie?
>>
>>122791063
First of all, start with Vaulters or Wild Walkers. Vaulters are science focused and are less affected by winter than other factions, while Wild Walkers are industry focused and start with one of the best units in the game.

Secondly, expand early and often, a good guideline is settling a new city each time you set a new Empire Plan (every 20 turns). Remember to research and build approval-boosting buildings unless you want your yields to plummet from expansion disapproval.

>>
>>122791893
You settle in a region.
This region is now yours only.
Every region has 1-3 minor faction villages (always one faction for a region, you cant have mixed ones).
You can buy them out, fuck them up, or do a quest for them.
You need to buy each village individually, or raze each village individually THEN reconstruct it if you want to use the minor faction.
The quest will pacify every village of the region, and you will be able to produce the minor faction unit immediately.
You can assimilate one or more minor faction into your empire, giving you Empire wide bonuses depending of the minor faction.

I probably forget some shit

It's important to have a lot of initiative on your bowmen, otherwise the enemy will run up to you and kill you.

Settle on forests (obviously).
Focus on developing the industry so you can build mostly everything in a turn or two.
Switch the default crossbow on Dekari Rangers to longbows.
Dekari Rangers are debatably the best damn unit in the game, don't hesitate to cover them in the best equipment you can give them (resources permitting, remember that iron gear is better than no gear). The increased costs from extra equipment should be balanced out by your massive industry output, at least later on in the game.
Your units get a bonus to damage (Or is it attack?) if they're standing in forests, ideally your archers should be standing in forested hexes that's blocked off from the rest of the enemy by the cliffs. If you're fighting on relatively flat terrain, try to kite the enemy with your fuckhueg range.
Follow your main quest then build the wonder building in a mere three turns.

I've been trying to like Civ 5 for few hours now and it just doesn't click with me. I used to love Civ1 and 2 but after that haven't played much 4x at all, except Master of Orion.

Is Civ 4 or 3 any better? Is there a definitive mod list for Civ 5 anywhere? Any total graphic overhauls for Civ 5, I hate the art deco ui so much.

Civ IV sounds much more up your alley, Civ V made a lot of deviations from the standard formula compared to previous civ games.

>>
>>122837663
they're one of the worse civs but that shouldn't matter outside of multiplayer

your first social tree should be either tradition or liberty, if you're going for a tall strategy (which is probably the best way to learn the ins and outs of the game) a good start would be to research pottery->writing and build monument->worker->great library then build a few cities

a different approach would be to get a normal library and monument then start pumping out settlers to get the good land and build a library there asap, aim to have 4 cities and a national college by turn 120.

Unless your civ has unique units in the ancient/classical era I generally prefer to wait until medieval/renaissance to start going agressive because crossbowmen+knights are very strong. Try to first destroy the enemy civ's army away from his cities. Don't underestimate the power of frigates if you're going for a coastal city.

a lot of the time building wonders is kind of a waste

anyway what specifically are you struggling with?

You must get the expansion, it has loads of content on top of the Guardians - and they're one man armies, hell latest patch had to nerf them some more.

Lost Tales DLC is just 23 quests but I think that's worth it. Echoes of Auriga DLC isn't worth it unless you simply like throwing money at Amplitude/their music guy.

Maybe more bishops
One line of stalwarts should be enough
The rest should be Bishops
Broken Lord heroes work really well with BL armies.
You want to ignore shields for your heroes and Stalwarts
Get claymores for them, so that they can dish out damage
Get HP on your stalwarts. They are the frontline of course
Bishops should be full damage and ignore almost all forms of tankiness to get more damage

Also, unless he was nerfed in the previous update
Neros is the most OP Guardian, followed by Gios
Neros can instakill full armies solo. Just get the weapon that boosts his charge to do more damage and do AoE. With good planning one charge is enough to clean half the game map of enemies.
Gios lacks his crazy damage but makes up for it by being able to attack everyone

you should know that, it's all about city hp. You should have used your swords man to move out of the city and fuck the cavalry. You NEED a melee unit to take a city so all his catapults wouldn't have been able to do shit.

Finally improved at the game and I'm playing on Emperor now. Some observations:

Liberty seems like a poor choice almost always. Very hard to get proper value out of it because of the strength of tradition.
I find it difficult knowing what I am working towards. If I start wonder whoring I get rekt by aggressive AI, if I don't and get a largish army early on it seems to backfire on me.
Tourism victory is quite difficult against the AI since they have a habit of going for culture.
Science victory feels like the easiest.
Fuck Assyria.
>>
>>122954947
>Liberty seems like a poor choice almost always.
More or less. Also as you go up higher up in difficulty, the AI's ability to land grab also goes up meaning actually settling wide gets harder
>I find it difficult knowing what I am working towards. If I start wonder whoring I get rekt by aggressive AI, if I don't and get a largish army early on it seems to backfire on me.
Balance that wonder building with actual building building and military. That being said if you're good with AI bribes you can skimp a little on the army
>Tourism victory is quite difficult against the AI since they have a habit of going for culture.
Culture from that difficulty onwards becomes less and less having huge tourism and more about being able to exterminate those who do
>Science victory feels like the easiest.
It's fairly simple, although Diplo will be faster and of basically the same ease if you're good at AI manipulation and keeping your trade routes up
>Fuck Assyria.
Yes
>>
Sup friendly mates, what mod should i download if i want a more active early game? Cause right now it's pretty much impossible to attack and capture cities in early game.
>>
>>122955768
The Huns or Assyria already exist mate.

And to be honest, if you want to take cities early, grab your luxury techs, and then rush construction. Composite Bowmen are disproportionately strong in the earlygame, up until the AI gets Pikemen

>>
>>122956486
Well, Denmark at the very least, has 2 things going for it:

Siege units can disembark, set up, and fire in the same turn
Berserkers coming 1 tech earlier is very powerful for about 15-25 turns
>>
>>122955987
at least it's better than Germany's UA
whoo now I can get shitty units I have to pay upkeep on every time I clear a camp

It basically means you don't have to spend as much production on creating an army. It's not the best their is, but coupled with hanse it's fairly decent.
>>
>>122959108
>>122959108
how many times are you actually going to be clearing barb camps by the time your military actually matters? I would rather have iroqouis UA than germany's because at least it gives production bonuses
>>
>>122961345
depends on what difficulty you're playing

on immortal and above you will need military even in ancient times
>>
>>122961580
playing on difficulties higher than emperor just doesn't feel fun, honestly, and not even that much more challenging, it just makes it feel like you HAVE to do one specific path or you're fucked because of how many bonuses the AI gets. Like it's not a good difficulty curve because it isn't really much more challenging, just frustrating. It's my biggest gripe with civ honestly
>>
>>122961705
well for me it forces me to engage in all parts of the game

even on emperor I can neglect many things like diplomacy or even military for long times just to fuck around. What's the point of plaiyng a game where you can ignore so many things and still win?
>>
>>122958683
>being the only civ who can plausibly warmonger in the ancient/classical era without a gimmicky UU is now shitty

Okay bud.
>>
>>122961992
but like, playing on higher difficulties has never felt more challenging, just more limited, you basically have to follow the same script because Civ V is horribly balanced and half of the shit you can do is totally pointless, but at least on emperor it doesn't feel like such an awful fucking slog every game.

So any advice for playing in an insanely aggressive conquest style? A few of my friends and I are playing cooperative but with the stipulation that all three of us play near suicidally aggressive (NPC aztec/zulu style)

I tend not to play this way so I'm looking for any advice, specifically which civs to look at but also how to deal with the inevitable shortcomings in science and culture (though for either of those I guess i could play either Assyria or Aztec respectively)
>>
>>123017448
Play the Huns, they get battering rams, which will let you conquer any city early on rather easily. As for everything else, ignore culture, you don't need it. Science is a lot more important, so be sure to build science buildings when you can.
>>
>>123017448
You could always try Asssyria, rush military techs, and fill out the rest of the tree from city conquest. You still can't ignore infrastructure, though.
>>
>>122807734
I get how you feel. I spent countless hours playing Civ 3 and it's expansions and Civ 5 just doesn't do it for me. You should try Civ 4 and it's mods (check out Planetfall if you're a fan of SMAC). Civ 4 is a definite upgrade from the previous Civ games, whereas Civ 5 feels like a sidegrade to the series where they cut out a lot of stuff to make it "streamlined" in order to appeal to a wider crowd.

If anyone wants a complete clusterfuck of a game, play on the East v. West map with 12 civs.

In literally every game with the map set as this, we are all so fucking close a war usually breaks out within the first 50 turns. It is LITERALLY impossible to have any allies in this as well, because no matter what, something will turn everyone against you. And the same goes for everyone, there are literally no alliances on this map.

It is actually pretty comical. The second a war breaks out, it engulfs the entire world into it some way or another. Consider yourself lucky if you manage to avoid war past the 100 turn mark. Especially if you settle beyond just your capital.
>>
>>123040075
I know that feeling. So now I have just resolved to conquer my immediate neighbors no matter what style of game I'm going to play.
>>
I almost never play these games.

Picked up Endless Legend a few weeks ago, played 2 matches with a friend so far against AI (we went for an alliance as quickly as possible).
The first match I tried to beat the shit out of everyone and he went for a diplomatic victory, after 11 hours I was "defeated" by him while being allied. After 7 hours of trying to go for a scientific victory in the second match, he gets a dust victory and I get a loss screen again.

Call me pedantic, but getting that fucking screen makes me want to punch my fucking monitor after having spent that much time and being in a fucking alliance. God damn it. Fuck playing these games in multiplayer, I spend half my time waiting anyway.

New EL AI is lovely. Most changes I've seen so far is in how it handles the Broken Lords, Cult and the Drakken, but it's all good.

>Cult have been squatting on a continent for the past 200 turns: easily strongest military and they've been wonderwhoring like crazy
>Drakken are trying to move in to the last remaining free territory, spamming alliance requests and trying to organise world vs. cult
>BL have insane ass pop. levels that crash as soon as you take their cities due to unsustainable food requests

It makes a nice change from the way the game played before.

Tips on playing Science-based faction like Vaulter and Ardent Mages

I like EL a lot but I can only play WW and BL because they can cheese their way to victory by simply surviving early game. I tried Vaulter and Ardent Mage but they seem hard to play. There seem to be no point in having new research when you can't build improvement or having access to market but no dust to buy anything. And there i no power boost late game like BL neither. And Ardent Mage, I don't know how to use their totem to get pass first era

Spam totems around your city for sick bonuses and use them in battle for what basically amounts to hax
>>
>>123124257
mages, your science totem is the most important, maybe dust and influence next
sadly the best way to play mages and use pillars, is to completely ignore the spells, because they arnt as useful

when using pillars, always put all of the ones you are putting up, on the same turn
if you're putting up 5, all 5 go up the turn the last ones fell down, its cheaper that way. and generally, you can figure out how much dust per turn you get, to see if its worth putting up more than 1

vaulters, just get more science shit bro

>>
>>122706107
If you DL'd from the steam workshop, have you tried checking the DLC list?
>>
>>123124257
The biggest thing you need to know about Vaulters is their ability to teleport troops between cities, even when under seige. Playing defensively, this means you can make do with a much smaller home army as you don't need to defend as wide a region. Offensively, this lets you ship troops to the front line quickly provided you've got a city in the region. Making good use of the Vaulters requires making good use of this.

Second would be the holy resource, which a strategic resource you can basically use as a luxury for bonuses. Also, gets used in production of Vaulter special buildings, provides a bonus production of that strategic resource and is needed for the teleport to fuction. This basically determines where you're gonna settle/invade as well as minor faction assimilation (dregers all day, erey day).

Ardent Mages are best played as a balance between dust and tech: you need dust to funnel your pillars, which in turn funnel your tech. Otherwise, they play relatively 'normally'. Combat wise, I find it's best to spam zealots and incorporate a minor faction with high defence, high init as a meat shield.

It coincides with the arrival of humans, we can of course not know for certain what made it extinct, but the idea of the noble savage living in balance with nature is absurd. Humans probably made it extinct in the Americas.
>>
>>123175854
It also coincided with the end of the ice age. There is no good reason to expect humans to wipe out all the large mammals on one continent and not another.
>>
>>123176173
The ice age ended on the entire planet, humans arrived on one of them, that one had a species go extinct. Human arrival is the primary different factor.
>>
>>123176505
Your argument would make sense if humans weren't also present on Afro-Eurasia.
>>
>>123176672
Where they were already accustomed to many different sourced of food. Arriving in a new continent and seeing an old food source and many unknown ones would mean increased hunting of that species. This coupled with difficult times, a rapidly changing climate, would make it logical for it to go extinct here rather than where the humans came from where they had more known food sources.
>>
>>123177213
>accustomed
No one in the Americas would have remembered anything from Asia. They weren't "accustomed" to anything. The colonization of the Americas took many generations.

Humans were one predator among many. I do not see sufficient reason to heap all of the blame onto them.

How do you guys determine what is more important in the first major turns of a game? I know getting a religion is beneficial, but it seems like I have to sacrifice other policy trees, thus missing out on their Wonder. Or I go for Trad/Hon/Lib and end up missing out on good pantheons/beliefs.

My usual opening sequence is; monument - shrine - scout - worker/wonder (depending on playstyle).
>>
>>123229878
And how do you manage the whole "settler or wonder" problem? Seems you either build a wonder and miss out on good settler spots, or build settlers and miss out on wonders
>>
>>123230000
Forget about ancient/classical wonders
>>
>>123229878
Religion is almost always unimportant, so are wonders. Always go tradition or liberty start unless you plan on early warring or you have raging barbarians or some shit on. You go tradition for tall and liberty for wide. Spam scouts. Only build monument if you're going liberty, you get one for free from tradition.
>>
>>123230790
If traditioning, i usually build monuments and get 4 free ampitheatres
>>
whats the point of spreading religion early if other civs can just found their own and instantly undo all your progress
even then, spreading later on is worthless since i converted a whole civ to my religion and removed their holy city status then 4 turns later then get a great prophet and revert back

Religion isn't worth much against high difficulty AI because they are so keen on spreading their own. This is of course with the exception of interfaith dialogue with cheaper missionaries while going tall.

Yes, culture victories get much harder on higher difficulties because you won't get as many wonders and you will have to overcome larger culture pools. However, this can be circumvented with a little warmongering.

their units are mediocre, mercenaries cannot be retrofitted, their dust bonuses aren't good enough to make up for that (like civ's venice) and the keys to the market are only good against player controlled factions as the AI's boosts negate any need for the market.
>>
>>123063526
That because it is atm. They went total mission creep and changed a lot of core systems like happiness which means that everything in the game has to be rebalanced. If you give them a few years of playtesting then CBP will perhaps be a balanced fan made expansion.
>>
>>123249521

Ackens minimalistic balance. It ups the difficulty by at least a level just by changing the AI:s economical and tactical priorities. For instance, the AI now builds aqueducts in their cities (wtf Firaxis?). It makes it hard/impossible to bribe the AI into stupid wars. It also provides limited balance changes to units, social policies, wonders, buildings, great people, resources, techs, beliefs and soon CIVs

Free monuments/aqueducts is better than the worker and settler. Tradition gives more happiness than Liberty early on. The effect on border growth is broken OP in tradition. The free great person is nice though.

I wish you could fabricate claims in CiV like in Europa Universalis, such that you have to fabricate a claim by designating a city or group of cities to conquer and then waiting awhile before actually DOWing. The AI won't hate you for going to war so long as you had a fully fabricated claim.

I play deity, and the first turns are important for:
1. Scouting. By far the most important thing.
>find ruins for random bonuses
>find city states for gold and maybe faith
>find natural wonders for +1 happiness
>find AIs for instant science boost
>find where you want to expand
>find out which warmonger is right next to you every time
2. Get the tech to improve my luxuries.
3. Get a pantheon.
4. Steal a worker from city state if possible.
5. Get a couple of archers and expand.

I dont go for wonders other than Porcelain Tower, Eiffel Tower and Hubble Telescope.
Rather I capture wonderwhoring cities if I can.

In multiplayer you can fight for early wonders, but its much, MUCH more important to scout and expand, to claim land and secure a parameter.
Also to build bows/chariots. Sometimes even a couple of extra warriors to fend of a fast rush or handle barbs.

What wonders are actually good/important? I like artemis for the growth, i like great library because of free tech, i like Stone henge if i wanna go maximum deus vult, and petra and/or collosus for the Trade.

I like being the jew or religious nut in multiplayer because it's easy build up as a strong suit to reign supreme in. That or just building mega City 1 and not give a fuck about anything but cramming more people into your City than any other civ has in total and making it as defencible as possible.

Friends don't let friends rush the Great Library.

Unless you are playing a smallish map or don't ever EVER plan on playing Immortal/Deity it is a bad idea to try to get the Great Library. Focus on improving your early game prioritization without it because it is worse than a gamble trying to get it on Immortal/Deity.

New EL AI might actually be too smart for its own good. Trade deals seem to factor in what the civ thinks is important based on what it's currently doing. Like, say, if the WW are at war, and have large stocks of Palladium and Admantium, they're very receptive towards trade deals giving them tech to use said resources for weapons and armour.

Receptive enough to, say, give you all their stocks of Palladium and Admantium in exchange, with a nice stack of dust to sweeten the deal.

Maybe it's a shrewd move. If they have large stocks of them then that means they have enough mines to produce large quantities quickly. Let's apply game theory:
>1st scenario: large stockpiles, don't trade them away, get no tech = can't use the worthless stockpiles
>2nd scenario: trade away stockpiles for tech = can use the tech as soon as they rebuild their stockpiles

2 scouts and then tradition monument, usually build granary if there's any resources that benefit from it
>>
>>123325895
also river city for your capitol because water mill and hydro plant, usually settle my 2nd or 3rd city on a mountain, bonus if it's a mountain with jungle, that shit can get pretty ridiculous
>>
>>123325895
Depends on a lot of factors. I prefer a river city for my capital so I can get a garden, but otherwise I'll take an observatory.
As for build orders, that depends on the size of the map. If you're on a huge pangaea then you can definitely use 2 scouts, but on smaller landmasses, you won't need more than one.
>>
Not yet, we're so close

Im 95% certain that it is a standard NQmod Pangea. You know that you can block the settler from another player with just a Scout or 2, right? With that and settling the distant cites first you can claim a lot of land, it's not hard to do. As it says in the guide, if you do not have that possibility then conquer your neighbor or go for trad.

No. AoW3 is great if you want pure battles but empire/city building is barebones.

Is there a really long game mode for Endless Legend? Like the equivalent of of Civ V Marathon?
>>
>>123398832
>which is better for multiplayer with friends?
AoW3 can have fast multi games. Or post-by-email multi. EL definitely takes longer and the combat isn't as deep, still way better than Civ. Any Civ.

Literally everything. You can't spam cities, one city limit per region. Combat is radically different and much better in EL. Research is about making choices, you won't research everything in the tree. EL basically has no religion/culture/tourism mechanic. EL has great quests, minor faction villages are different to city states.

You meant turn times became longer and longer? If it's only that then EL doesn't suffer from that as much. What it does suffer from is generally lower framerate, especially during winter because it has some fancy weather effects.

And honestly, you can NOT play EL in toaster mode as it lacks many icons for important stuff.
