Every Grinder/Welder has a cloud of effect. Every block inside that cloud of effect is checked against that cloud's "capacity". If clouds overlap, the block is checked twice for each cloud, as they interact.

You literally created a platform that creates thousands of block vs. grinder effect checks. A lag machine. It is already beyond bearable with large blocks at that size, but small blocks are the end.

Why.

Take it down.

Current server status: Down for extensive maintenance, up again soon, though.

To join up with us, follw these instructions.

First of all, you need to get into the access group. To do so, add/msg this guy:

You can also use that for offline building, blueprinting and then building on the serbian later. I don't care if you want this server to be vanila, it won't be. It's a shitload of mods, but they have been weighted and tested and they work. Half of them are tweaks and visual shit (no beacon glare, for example) anyway.

WARNING. 1.5GB OF DATA. COURIER PIDGEON INTERNET BEWARE.

You will be invited to a group called "Warbros Space Engineers". That group works as a whitelist. Only people in that group will be able to join the server. That is so I can control better who has access and we don't get unwashed pubbies. Not a circlejerk, you jerks.

Quick rule overview:
- Don't be a dick.
- No megalomanic superbuilds. It's bad for performance and FPS.
- No grid spam, every ship/thing you build is a calculated physics object that eats performance. So, no drone swarms, eh?
- PvP is opt-in between two (or more) consenting parties. No ifs, no butts.
- Only one drill per player. Take the Large Ship Earthbreaker, it's a good drill. Why? Drilling kills the game for everyone. Simu speed drops like a white city girl taking a moonshine shot down South.
- Keep Welders/Grinders to a minimum. Not talking about your average welder with 8 Compacts, but avoid grind platforms.
- Talk to me if you have issues. Don't just shitpost on /egg/, talk to me. I'll see what I can do.

Some general stuff:

READ THE FAQ (pic related) AND SAVE EVERYONE SOME TIME.

- Server is running in Survival-10-10-10 game mode.
- You are encouraged to make your own faction. Warbros will auto-accept peace. Buddy up with someone, make things happen.
- Warbros faction will not hold your hand. We'll hep if you are conveniently close and can spare the time/resources, though.
- The server will have some QoL addons, such as the helmet mod. Read the description and understand it. Protip: Turn of the glass reflection, set the shadow scale so there is no shadow and deactivate delayed movement.
- Another is Chat History. Type /ch to see the last 50 messages typed in /global. Might help with catching up.
- Also, Build Info, which gives you information about blocks you're placing. Turn it on/off with /buildinfo in /global chat.
- There's only one respawn ship, the Sparky. It has all you need to survive, some mats, beacon, solars, nuke reactor, refinery/assembler, air. Spawn in one of those and set out to meet the cold void. Keep in mind that Sparkies cannot land on planets because lol thrust.
- There will not be a Starter Zone for new players, unless you make and maintain one. But Conker wants to. Get in contact with Conker and help him rebuild Centrepoint Station.
- The server is set to autosave every 15 minutes. There are no manual saves. Expect crashes and reboots.

You might want to grab the Warbros UI, too. See through menus and generally improved visibility and an increased G Menu size.

Summary:

Config File
- Removed about 100 spiders from the dictionary.
- Removed 25000 lines of scenario mission triggers for the config file.
- Removed Spider faction.
- Locked up Pirate faction.
- Cleaned up astronaut models.
- Removed Joe, fuck Joe, I am glad he's a spider.

Result: Config file from 1.7MB down to 850kB.

Gameworld.
- Removed many tiny grids.
- Stopped and repaired all ships.
- Fixed erroneous astronaut models.
- Removed 897 floating objects.
- Removed 14 dead spiders.
- Removed a handful of "way out there" asteroids.
- Exported a ship called "PZK Cookie Monster", which had over 7000 small grid blocks. Jesus FUCK. Had no owner. Removed the grid.
- Exported a ship called "Carrier [Infinity]" which had over 1500 large blocks. Mother of GOD. Removed the grid.
- Set all projectors to be limited to 1 level deep of projections rather than up to 5 nestled grids.

Result: 29MB total gameworld size down to 22MB. Voxel storage down from 122 objects at 5.5MB to 85 objects at 4.3MB.

This should generally increase loadtimes and improve performance.

Local load tested and successfull.
Server is currently booting up (loading voxels).

NASA's had a rather notable fuckup related to unit conversions, when a probe supposed to orbit Mars instead slammed right into it because somebody making the software forgot to convert meters to feet. if building large ships on a planet you will need to start by building a stable platform and sort out the landing gears first. I usually go for 3 landing gears, 2 in the back one in the middle in the front. And I try to keep mass distribution symmetrical.

Another way is to build it vertically attached to a tower. It is a pain to access in survival however, you will need scaffolding.

There was a minecraft server/gamemode that had something like that. Everybody starts as 'dwarves' (i.e. defenders) who can build walls and fight, and at a certain point in time a bunch of players are made into enemies (who can respawn upon death) and are placed outside the base. Whenever a dwarf dies, they become a respawning enemy, and the game continues until everyone dies.

I build the ship on an arm attached to a station, and then sever the arm when its done. Keeps it suspended without having to worry about landing gear, and it turns into a large ship grid as soon as it's separated.

You just have to be really sure it can fly before you break it free.

It's actually not that slow either goes from 0 to speed cap in a minute or so in-atmosphere when moving forward. Haven't tested it in survival though, but the whole thing has oxygen and everything is piped correctly so fuel should be the only problem.

I know, it's great. I love having challenges like this that require actual engineering.

Also the fact I could send an army of candrones to destroy the fuelling docks while all the actual faction players are fighting a different battle. I also forsee mid-range planetary cruise and ballistic missiles being a huge problem once they get figured out. The code and math is very, very simple. Once it gets on the workshop, planetary faction PVP is going to hinge on who can put up the most scuds the fastest. And once you get the GPS coordinates of someone's base, you can send all manner of GPS guided nastiness at them.

Everything in your inventory vanishes forever, and you can only spawn at a medbay when you join the serb. So if you don't have a medbay wherever you happen to be working, you can't actually respawn in the same place you were when it went down.

It's only a problem when the serb goes down unexpectedly, really. When there's a planned outage you get plenty of time to dump your inventory into a cargo container. I just make it a rule now to only carry a minimum of material.

I don't know how SE server architecture works, but I'm GUESSING that it's set that way for warbros because it gives the server that many fewer things to keep track of and conserves more of what little performance we have. You can thank Keen's terrible code for that.

That's the normal behavior, not a setting. In single player or when you're a host, when you exit the game and load it again, you start from the same place you were with your inventory intact. However, if you're a guest in someone else's game, your character is removed together with your inventory, unless you're in a cryo chamber. I guess the game just doesn't want to remember where everyone left off. Since there's a dedicated block to remedy the situation, I think it's intentional and will never be changed.

A vertical landing mothership, with complete production facilities, elevators to get up the platforms, and so on.

The idea is, rather than landing with a large footprint of a horizontal ship, this will literally put the foot down (the end on the right side of the image) and stand there, as a tower with turrets overlooking the land, denying spiders life in an area, while serving as a lookout post from ... about 100m up. Maybe higher, depending on how the buildings goes.

For now, I have put in atmospheric thrust which should be just enough to hover this thing. Gonna need hydrogen to fuck off again after entering the grav well.

You need a hydrogen tank, which you fill from an oxygen generator. The tanks and thrusters have regular conveyor ports for connecting them, and all the usual conveyor rules apply.
The fuel efficiency is good, but it's still pretty easy to run out when landing on a planet. The hovering eats a lot.

what you see on the deck is a bunch of piston pieces, using the landing gears causes the pistons to explode violently.

so i disabled landing gears, not very important anyway.

it's annoying how dark the grafix get just cause you stand under what the game thinks is shadow. like stepping under a block turns the whole world dark even though the suns out.

This was one of my favourite updates to Spengies. When every beacon, everywhere, regardless of range, buildstate, powerstate or antenna-rebroadcast would appear on screen.

I am glad Keen brought that feeling back by using GPS entries for planetoids that you cannot turn off/edit except for ONCE after logging in. Spawn, hit K, GPS, edit the planets, and they become your GPS points to manage. Close the K menu without doing that and they are out of your reach until next relog. For anyone wanting to edit their GPS without having to close the menu:

At first I figured the game wouldn't let me reach enough velocity, but last night I was testing a launch vehicle and with a max speed of 262ms I was almost in orbit where the planets gravity was 0.1g

How realistic do you think it is to put a space station into orbit around a planet?

Related question, does anyone have a good solution for reentry? Do I just want to slap a small hydro thruster on the orbiter capsule?

After the release of Planets we are focusing this week on bug fixing and improving the building process.
Placing your first block (base station) on a planet surface is now much more intuitive for newcomers and returning players. Blocks are aligned with gravity by default. Trying to make a planetary miner that isnt just loaded with thrusters.
This was a solid idea but it cant lift its arm up anymore on its own, so it cant go longer.

It also cant get deep enough to get at the ore deposits. Any ideas?

Unless I'm terrible at trigonometry, the orbit that I was trying to go for last night should be possible at 342m/s.

I may not have the correct distance and gravitational pull, might be off by small amounts, but this still tells me that orbiting structures might be viable, particularly as super high orbits.

Compared to Squad from KSP Space Engineers is a godsend. But that doesn't mean much.

I don't feel really any hate because of broken promises. I never expected it to be fully realistic. It has engines that are powered purely on electric energy. That itself is pretty sci-fi.

My game never crashed often but since planets were released it died twice, but I guess that's okay for such a big and new feature. They seem to fix bugs and crashes now, if you see the latest patchnotes.

Pistons and rotors can be pretty annoying though. I hope they'll be able to fix them.

But they got weekyl updates so you actually see they're working on the game and not do nothing for 5 months and release 5 parts like the KSP devs do.

If you have sixty 0.02N thrusters on a 10 tonne ship it takes a week and a half to reach 100m/s. Roughly.
After 15 weeks you'll be going a kilometer a second.

Nuclear fusion still requires plasma but if we say we've perfected it to a certain point it would be a lot more energy efficient for weight of reactant for each unit of energy. You could probably then fart iron out of your satellite for more propulsion.
Solar power is practically flawless if not for maintenance.

Since it's Thursday, I'mma make an update, too.

The respawn ships on our server are now a little more diverse than "lemon mkII lel". You can now spawn in three variants of the Sparky MkII - a combat variant, a miner and a general purpose solar-vessel. They all have different strong points and based on their loadout, slightly different contents and loadouts.

Thanks to Dima for making the combat variant with applique armour, heavy armour reinforcements and other nifty things.

So I made some UNSC Warthogs for ground movement/scouting/defense/carting stuff around. Mostly built them to be lightweight and cheapish while looking rougly like the Halo ones. Currently have two variants:
Standard - Gatling turret, 1 seat, and no cargo.

Transport - 1 Medium cargo container and 3 seats

I started making a mod that extends oil processing stuff, you can make oil out of coal, and out of the oil you pump you can make more petroleum/light oil with using coal.
Sulfur is a by-product of processing the oil as it should be, and all in all you just have more decisions to do in what you actually want the most out of your oil.

Never completed it though because I couldn't understand how to make trains and cars use diesel/petroleum for driving instead of coal.

Working on my supply/support ship. Right now has a shitty 800 damage fixed laser for taking out fast/unpredictable flyers, might make it a little more powerful later on but not by much. Bridge will be between the smokestacks (refinery temp is at 61k and still climbing, hasn't even slowed down), going to put a nucannon between the laser and where the bridge will be. What do you guys think the nucannon should be? The rest of my fleet is mostly loaded up with the .5m HE or frag cannons and some ships have timed flak and AA missiles. Maybe a shieldbuster, inertial fuze and frag?

In any case, it's not unlikely that tankers will be in the area when a battle occurs, so why not have them take up a single specialized role? It will only be a drain on my logistics system during battle, at which point it doesn't really matter, does it?

It's not just a tanker. It will also include repair tentacles (since repairing also requires resources, it would make sense to put tentacles on a ship that has lots of storage). I probably won't even use these to transport resources very often, that task will most likely go to a large helicopter or hydrofoil speedbarge (fuck now I love that idea). This will store the resources the fleet needs, hanging back in battle and dealing with whatever is too fast for the rest of my ships to hit.
