I've often noticed that it takes 12 or so hours to know if you like Monster Hunter or not. And in that time you usually experience something that hooks you in to liking the series.

I've had that before though, when you're 10 minutes in and haven't even seen the monster yet. Especially back when I was shit and needed the whole 50 minutes to kill anything.

Is there a point to building other elemental bowguns than Absolute Bowguns? Seems like a few of the elemental ones (Eldaora's Hornet for example) beat it out hard in raw so they'd be more useful

In terms of sheer damage output Eldaora's hornet is basically the only exception, since element shot damage scales on raw without affinity being significant. Other LBGs do have RF utility options that the Absolute Bowgun may lack, as well

Absolute Bowgun is jack off-all trades but isn't actually better than specialized offers because it either:

The only instance it's a top contender is for water.

It's also worth noting deviation hardly affects elemental shots, so you can hit your mark pretty reliably even at long distances with the Demonlord Cannon without taking any Steadiness.

Let's take the GS for example.
Aerial style stop you from using the grounded Charge but you can do it while jumping.
Bushido style stop you from using the charge unless you dodge.
Striker style make you go back to MH1 and you can't even use any charge attack anymore.

Every style can equip arts.
Guild style gets nothing new in terms of moveset.
Striker gimps your moveset so you can equip 3 arts and use them more frequently.
Aeriel gets an aerial specific moveset.
Bushido is tooled towards countering.

That's exactly what happens. Striker has 3 skills, Aerial and Bushido have 2 (I think) and Guild has 1 (I think). Just like how in 4, even people using non-IG weapons had access to a jump move. It's just part of the game.

It's not that simple though, there are stat bonuses and advantages to each style. We just dont know what yet.

Again, no reason you can't just avoid pushing the button if you want to play the old way. Just like mounts aren't mandatory.

Why does it eat gunpowder?
To be precise, Gogmazios likes to eat sulfur. It has a furnace like organ that allows decomposition of sulfur making it able to consume. Gunpowder in the Monster Hunter world are apparently black powders which contains sulfur thus Gogmazios seeks and consumes them.
Whats the volatile oil it produces?
The flammable oil is liquid that comes out of Gogmazios's skin which contains its body waste obtained from eating. So its basically sweat.
How can it produce heat?
Upon decomposing sulfur, heat is emitted. Gogmazios has an organ that is capable of heat exhaustion and disposes heat out of its body. Black smokes which you see from Gogmazios are the heat emitted out its skin.
Flying abilities
The material description on "Gogmazios Fiberwng" explains: "A great wing too tattered to raise winds, sending instead splatters of oily gore". However Mr.Fujioka explains that the wings aren't actually tattered but its still not capable of flying due to its oil sticking and hardening on its wing webbing. When Gogmazios enters his enraged state (when the music changes) the oils around him begins to evaporate due to heat. Gogmazios then forcefully spreads out it's wings allowing it to fly. Mr.Fujioka states that he likes the fact Gogmazios is forcibly flying and puts emphasis in the game that Gogmazios is not flying with ease. Due to these factors Gogmazioses usually don't fly.

Its appearance
In the game you see Gogmazios as a dark blue colored dragon but that is because of the oil and artificial material that covers it. Its raw body bears aspects similar to the Magalas but with a pale blue color . The model sheet of the oil-less gogmazios is shown on the magazine. It is said that Gogmazios has incredibly long lifespan and due to that it didn't evolve much as other species so its appearance bears resemblance of its ancestors.
Why there were hardly any records
Upon obtaining enough nutrients Gogmazios digs underground and Hibernates for a couple of years or decades. That's the main reason why it's hardly seen in the MH world. Mr.Fujioka also stated that by his imagination, there was once a village assaulted by a Gogmazios which was looking for gunpowders to eat. The whole village was destroyed to an extent where no survivors were found thus almost no reports of this monster was made.
Why does his weapons have sleep element?
Mr.Fujioka explained that its simply because the developers wanted to add more sleep weapons which is lacking in the end game. He stated "well Gogmazios does sleep a lot by hibernation so it does have some relevance..."
How it was named
The name came from as a mash up of the 2 giant devils from the bible named "Gog and Magog", the word "geo" to describe land and a french word "érosion" to resemble invasion.

Basarios and gravios are ofc weak as hell to water. Especially on the belly. I think silver rathalos, brachydios and brute tigrex are weak to water too.

Idk if dragon elemental charge blades exist, but it would fuck up all the things weak to dragon. Gogmazios' head is 60% weak to dragon, so you can imagine how insane the damage potential is.

Ice recks rajang, zinogre's head or charged back.

Fire is probably good against ukanlos.

My weird encounter with Gypceros way back on Freedom. I only knew about Kut-ku and Rathalos because they were part of the first few hunts when learning. So when I started the quest to hunt down White Velocprey I heard something flapping and got excited about another Kut-ku for materials.

I'm then face to face with this weird fat purple thing and the music didn't kick in for some reason so it was just charging around spitting poison and flashing me. I naturally got wrecked since I was very new to the game. After that I was hooked wondering what kind of new monsters I'd come across because at the time I didn't think about looking the game up on the internet. Going in blind made the whole game a lot more fantastic. Really loved exploring the maps when not fighting large monsters because it felt so nice just observing the smaller ones from time to time.

MHF2 was just as amazing since both games I was completely on my own. Chameleos being my absolutely favorite monster due to him not playing his theme until he was angry. The fight in the area with the long tunnel of trees in Forest & Hills was memorable.

The changes to subspecies are minimal (or in the case of green narga basically nonexistant). Nargacuga, Bulldrome, Akantor, Ukanlos, Tigrex, all straight imports. Contrary to popular belief, gen 2 monsters really weren't that terrible compared to gen 1. Their hitboxes weren't fucked 8 ways to sunday to begin with so they just tacked on an extra move or two and called it a day. Diablos, Rathalos, and Rathian, for comparison, got reworked down to the core, to the point where they even replaced their uglyass gen 1 models.

The claw was made fucking irrelevant by adding a fucking nub nipple to the 3DS and it works great.

The reason the claw exists is because there was a lack of a second control stick, NOT because it was comfortable and anything near convenient.
The vita has a second stick, and I play Freedom Unite on it! And I mapped the fucking camera controls to the second stick and it works like a dream. Fuck I even use PPSSPP to play FU with a friend online with an Xbox controller and it also works like a dream! It's made 100% better with a second fucking stick.

That's not true, I have a N3DS and it's by far the most uncomfortable experience I've had with MH so far. The nub is horribly cramped near the right buttons and it's not too responsive. I have to take quick breaks after a few hunts all the time because of the cramping on top of controlling the camera being a painful fight of its own with the vertical aspect added on.

PS2 titles and Tri with a CCP would disagree with you. On the WiiU I even clawed but with the second control stick instead. It was oddly more comfortable since an analog stick requires less force.

How about this. You get a very basic charm at start. Say Attack Up +1 with the opinion to improve it by taking it to fights and accomplishing a certain requirement. Say break claws and face on a LR Rathalos. At the end of the mission it gets upgraded to Attack +2 and so on.

So when you get to HR and GR its less about being a dirty power saver but rather about skill.

FU was my first game, and as a matter of fact I went back and tangled with a narga just a couple days on a whim, the only real difference was the hunter's movements being slightly more restrictive than in later titles. Rolling under tiggy's/akantor's left arm when they charged were fucking staples of fighting them in Unite and were easy as shit to pull off because their hitboxes were actually in line with their models.

After expeditions and looking around, I was sent a really nice single Rajang quest by someone. It's a first area spawn with only 1&2 as usable areas. First room is a tiny pillars room and second is the long split in the middle by a cliff one. Bias is gunner, though that's not really important since you're better off doing double monster quests for relics.
