I have a torrent of all the games music, Morali's OST, the Vortex Club party, all the licensed songs (most in lossless format), and all the albums they were taken from.

LiS was the most recent episodic game that wasn't done by Telltale. Dontnod had a chance to create something new and unique with this genre but failed. So now there's no... example of how to make these kinds of games.

Don't get me wrong, the concept of multiple endings based on your choices isn't new. Hell, it's basically the core of most harem/date-sim VNs. But as far as I remember, there wasn't yet a successful Western game that utilized this concept.

The sad thing is they didn't really drop the ball on it until episode 5. Your major choices did have some amount of cumulative effect on how easy achieving certain outcomes re: Kate, Frank etc was. But then that all got erased with the ending no matter what you picked (and especially because it was up to you to pick the ending, it wasn't the result of Max's actions shaping her personality or affection for Chloe.)

At the end of it all, how much did the choice-based nature of the game compliment the story or improve player experience?
Dontnod says they designed it that way so that you'd feel closer to Max and share her dilemma, but... why? The message of the game ends up being 'don't try to save people, don't try your hardest to achieve happiness because life will shit on you no matter what and punish you for making the right choice in the moment'.
Why did they want players to identify with Max so much and then deliver that experience? Are Dontnod just a huge bunch of sadists?

Happy and satisfying endings are looked down upon in that kind of writer circle. Cruelty and sadness just for the sake of it, without any meaningful message attached to it. Unlike classical tragedies for example, who could be incredibly depressing and sad, but there was always a reason for it. The protagonist deserved what was coming to them, they did something wrong and the audience could understand why they didn't get their happy ending and take something away from it.

Max didn't deserve it, she didn't do anything wrong, that's why LiS is so incredibly unsatisfying.

It's completely hollow. I watched Fassbender's Macbeth the other night, good film btw, but that's how you do a tragedy. Macbeth is a tormented man but he deserved everything he got. The message is don't fucking kill people to get ahead, it's a slippery slope.

The message of LiS seems to be 'don't even try to be nice,' which is ironic considering they put Kate's side story in the game to bring up teenaged bullying and how serious it can be.

Actually, that would be a super interesting concept for a story. The main character is just some random person, and their friend has the ability to rewind time ... so you never actually see them "use" this power, it's just that really tense situations just "happen" to work out well, they pull the "guess what I have in my pockets" game perfectly, etc. It'd be interesting with Max's focus power too, because at random times your friend would suddenly change their mood and start talking about shit that went wrong in the future that YOU have to fix ... then revert back to their normal self so you had to guide them, etc.

I think if we were to have a DLC add-on, it might be interesting to play as Chloe for the period between Max's focus to the Vortex Club party, and her "waking up" again at the beach during the storm. We know that Jefferson was after the girls at this point, so there could be some short sequences where they have to escape from him; we'd get to see the final conversation between Chloe and David in which we get to see the reconcile with each other ... and Joyce would probably be home at that point too, so there could be a nice scene between them. And, of course, there'd be a good chance to have a good deep conversation with Max while they were holed up in Chloe's room for the night, waiting to hear from David as he tracks down Jefferson/the Dark Room (or, for added dramatics, Chloe/Max could go with him).

It would fit into the existing game quite well, and tie up some of Chloe's loose relationship ends. The "gameplay" might be a little strange, without Chloe being able to rewind ... but maybe they could just build something in that does something similar (eg. the player could still activate the rewind powers, but it would manifest itself as Chloe asking Max to do it for her ... or something).

That's my dumb idea for the day. :3

No offense but that kind of seems like a wasteful use of DLC. I'm not against the idea of playing a scenario as Chloe but playing out a brief filler episode on the Thursday night sounds very rigid and confined. She wouldn't have much to do besides talk and contemplate and player choice would have to be kept to a minimum to avoid conflicting with the events of the main game. Since Max forgot to mention the tornado (being the ditz that she is) I don't think Chloe could think to tell David and Joyce to find safety in the Dark Room.

I'm not saying that there couldn't have been some interesting conversations during that time but it's not something that warrants an entire extra episode and could just as easily be substituted with a decent fanfic. I'd be far more interested in something that shows the behind-the-scenes story with Nathan or Rachel.

The game would have been forgotten if Max and Chloe wasn't at the helm. Their chemistry is just perfect.
