I know this is late but you cannot beat as others have said. If you look, I believe after the war/dragon fight, you get an item called a Dragon Orb or something like that and it specifically states that it negates the effect of dragons healing.

In Zestiria and even Xillia, I never had any clue as to where I was on the continent, or in which direction I was going. When I'm in Lastonbell, where am I in relation to Ladylake ? North ? East ?

I really don't think maps are as effective as an overworld.

Look at the world map. Ladylake is northeast of Lastonbell IIRC.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see it as being a big difference. Either you're a giant stomping through forests and across plains getting jumped by monsters and approaching a town to enter, or you're actually walking through the forest and across the plains in detail getting jumped by monsters and approaching a town to enter.

That's not what I meant, but I should have explained myself better, my bad.
When I go from Falkewin Hillside to Glaivend Basin, I go south. But in Glaivend Basin, it looks like I'm coming from the east.
It's somewhat disorienting. Sure, the map is here, so I've got a vague idea of where stuff is (and even then, all cities share the same icon so you have to look them up manually).

In vesperia, I knew exactly where Dhangrest was and how to go there from Halure. I could just jump on Baul and go west.

You're right, it's not as immersive, but as far as I'm concerned it gives a much better sense of traveling a coherent world and I think it's worth it. But that's very subjective.

Oh jeez, this times a million. A world map actually gives a sense of direction, I really dislike what they're trying to do now.

Graces still made it relatively understandable but Xillia and Zestiria made me feel so awkward. I had no sense of direction of where anything even was.

I do love fixed camera angles but I think that if they spent the time to design things with the free camera in mind it would end up being far superior. One thing that gets forgotten is what happens when the player tries to tilt it upwards to see things above them, games like FF12 failed horribly at this. You could simply allow for some camera options in the field or even just in town, maybe throw in a first person mode or zoom levels to allow players to look around and get a full picture.

The only thing that really bothered me in Zestiria was how bland all the towns and cities felt, in other games each location felt far more natural, like it really had been there and slowly built up over many years. I suppose this is due to the new seamless combat but that shouldn't be an excuse for them to plop down 4 burned out square house models and call it a day.

I felt like those were meant to actually show that the Age of Chaos was affecting things, not so much as being actual towns.

It's sort of like how the first half of ToS has them talking about natural disasters and plant life dying and crops withering...but everything looks lush and nice. Though it's possible they were concerned having the game look like a dreary hell at the start might turn people off.

Finally finished Eternia. Probably missed a fair bit of the side quest stuff but I think I got through most of it.
Pretty fun 'light' adventure, I wish Max & Chat were a bit more fleshed out and less one-note and that we learned a bit more about Ras but maybe that was in the side stuff that I missed. Other than that I enjoyed it a lot.

I intend to play Legendia next, how well does it emulate?

So how complex is the final dungeon in Zestiria?

Is it actually worthy of being a final dungeon like Graces F/Vesperia etc. or is it shallow like the Xillia series?

Yeah, it has a lot of potential, but they haven't used it correctly yet. In Zestiria, there were only a few locations where I went "this looks cool".

It's a fairly straightforward jog with only a handful of mutant extra bosses to fight. When I stepped in there I was expecting something like Abyss with lots of story segments and all that, nope just walk on through and finish the game.

Well, Abyss is one of the best Tales games imo, so you can start off with that if you want to be consequently disappointed.

Symphonia is the western/fan favorite, and you'll probably like that a lot also, plus it would be more optimized for PC so thats nice.

Frankly, Zestiria sucks and you probably only want to spend money on it if you're a fan of the series and really want to play all the games. The cast is good but the good pretty much ends there. Play the other (better) games first and fall in love with old school Tales and then get Zestiria for cheap later when it goes on sale. or just pirate it if that's your cup of tea

Not the same anon. No idea about Zestiria as I have yet to play it, but I recommend to play symphonia before Abyss. It is in the awkward position of being the transition game from the 2D to 3D tales, so it would feel like a stepback if you play it after Abyss due its lack of free run and other systems modern tales have that makes 3D games more comfortable to play

Zestiria suffers from a lot of rushing, you can tell they had the ideas and content but then never had the time to put it ingame. If you believe the Rose angle then it all comes back to him and his lust for her voice actor.

I do find it hard to believe that an entire team of developers couldn't see that the game wasn't hitting the mark in many areas and just went along with it.

There's a lot of that, though. In general he's treated as the baby of the group.
He doesn't know about the elemental affinity thing the others are using with their weapons.
He doesn't know what squid or crabs are (mistakes the latter for a hellion) and decides the ocean is full of insane crap (which does lead to Rose calling him out as "some water seraph!")

From what I understand, once upon a time the windriders were a great happy merchants group lead by Rose's dad, and watched over by a gang of wind seraph that included Dezel (and maybe Zaveid?). One day Rose's dad decided to get Rose engaged to a prince. Dezel freaks out because he thinks this will cause the end of the windriders / he wants Rose for himself, so he releases malevolence (or does something like that?) which corrupts the prince and causes him to become murderous. It's hard to tell when she's being sincere because she spoke in the same tone(at least in jp dub) and Mikleo got annoyed as he always does when she mocks/teases her. She shows tsundere concern sometimes but she felt like a dick there. No one but Sorey and Lailah seemed to be particularly affected.

Really? Are you playing on Moderate/Normal? I've played mostly on hard here, x2 stat drop on gear is uncommon but I've gotten a few pieces. Some good ones too, like a x2 Wind damage for male only boots so I've kept them on Zaveid. They make fusing a pain though, since I need to get new pieces that have specific empty slots. I'm 90-100 hours in. Party is around 80, Mikleo's maxed his cookng like any good girl should.

I cannot believe playing a mmo is more fun and exciting than playing Zesty. FFXIV has spoiled me with its amazing music, beautiful cities, and sheer size. And the cities actually having things in them. When I play Zest, I don't feel wonder. I haven't even seen any mini games if there even are any. Pretty much. They're worried about Alisha, but they also know that it would be even more disastrous if she died and Sorey lost his shit, and they just point it out. Lailah must be especially worried about the situation; considering it was a similar situation that led to Michael cusing Heldalf.

Some scenes did feel weird, but this one didn't bother me at all.
