Its because there's not supposed to be 100% crossover so you have characters from another story taking over a different story.

However everything we've seen, if even a few characters are crossing over between stories, you know they're nothing but connected.

"Shirou"(Archer doesn't count) won't appear in another Fate story so much, just as Shiki won't appear in F/SN, as its not their story anymore. However you will have characters like Rin, Ciel, or otherwise mentioned on occasion. All Nasu stories are basically connected, but he doesn't entirely want to say how they're connected since he would have to clarify it a hundred times over or just pick a canon route which he won't.

He might talk about Arc and Ciel being there in passing in Mahoyo or Kara no Kyoukai data book; however he won't go into super detail on it. Saying "Arc's time-line where she got together with Shiki corresponds to Saber's route in F/SN where she got together with Shirou in blah blah".

Just keep it loose, but we know they're connected.

He won't say what route this other story went down in another story, but he will say that those same characters existed in some form while that story was going on.

I didn't understand shit from Medusa's interlude except I told her she is cute.

Why is Vlad a zerker, anyway? I'm confused. Everyone else has their class according to their previous appearances (some like Gilles or Cu do get variants, but the original version's still there) so he should be a Lancer since he was one in both Extra and Apocrypha.
Plus even without him Berserkers are the class with the most Servants in it so it's definitely not for balancing reasons.

Maybe they didn't want two different heroes to have two variants in the same class, because Extra Vlad is planned as a Lancer for the future and we already have FSN and Proto Cu both as Lancer.

And since Vlad already seems to be TM's poster boy for exploring different sides of the same hero, they figured they might as well truly explore the obvious side of him they've been avoiding.
