Just have a bit of faith then I suppose. I normally just engage in conversation beforehand before deciding based on the interaction whether it's going to be worth the time or not. I've met a fair few in there myself who look nice but can't carry themselves from a conversational standpoint, so I know the feel.

If you see somebody you like the look of, I say test the waters regardless. At least if it works out well you have a contact for the future.
