PC bros, will games like Mushihimesama and/or Eschatos display portrait if i shift the orientation from my graphics card settings? I previously just used game settings and physically turned my monitor when i wanted to play, but i moved my setup around and have a permanent portrait monitor as a result. Would like to use it for browsing as well as shmupping
>>
>>122440730
Yeah, it'll probably show up on another platform though so I'm not worried.

It's supposed to be out this year though and they haven't even shown gameplay yet. fug.
>>
>>122441517
They have portrait built in by default. It's tate mode that's optional.
>>
>>122442281
That's what i mean. Brain on the fritz, working nights socks, etc
>>
>>122442598
I'm not following you here. The option us built into the game; you dom't need to dick with your graphics card.

By default, the game is in portrait mode, but if you have a mount, you can rotate your monitor and put the game in tate to play it classic arcade "tall" style.

So you started at UFO? Kind of a weird place to start. I say you give the 6th game, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil a try, the spellcards there are a bit more straightforward and not as gimmicky. If you keep playing 12 you're gonna have one hell of a time with curved lasers later on.
>>
>>122464236

Nay, piracy.

Speaking of which, is there a game where I control a pirate flying ship?
>>
So I purchased the Irem bundle with "In The Hunt", but in the pc port the controls suck (you have to use analog stick). Do you know of a release that allows arcade stick? Do you know how to force digital input? It sucks because it has my favourite R-Type in it too (Leo).
>>
>>122466636
thanks, but I just wanted to play something visually nice and I find touhou 6 too not-challenging, but I'll play it again today

also are the 2hu games considered hard, should I feel happy about beating them on normal?
>>
>>122468970
>also are the 2hu games considered hard, should I feel happy about beating them on normal?
That depends on what you're comparing them to. They're not the easiest, but they're definitely no Truxton 2 or Ketsui Ura.
>>
>>122469220
I'm comparing them to the only game I 1cc'd and that's mushihimesama on original
>>
>>122469683
most of the difficulty in Touhou stems from lack of knowledge. Few people are aware how the cherry system works in 7. Or that ReimuC bomb in 11 is ridiculously strong.
>>
>>122469683
Most Touhou games are going to be easier to 1cc, especially if you're playing on normal.
>>
>>122472909
>>122472049
I'll just continue playing the newer ones on normal cause the older ones on normal are too easy but I suck to much to actually finish them on hard
>>
>>122473637
Easy doesn't necessarily mean bad, but if you're looking for hard then 11, 12 and 15 are the ones to try, though of those I only liked 11. Good luck with whatever you choose!
>>
>>122473748
thank you, I hope I wont encounter much more of the trial error bullshit
>>
>>122473637
you know... there is a higher difficulty than normal
>>
>>122473870
Doesn't the entire genre in general have trial and error though? Touhou especially however since there is basicly always a way to clear a part much more efficiently than just raw dodging, and this applies to every single one of them except 9, but 9 is literally just RNG Bullshit the game.

Anyway, just don't try out 15, you'll hate it.
>>
>>122474056
>but I suck too much to actually finish them on hard
I probably constructed the whole post weirdly, so sorry for that
>>122474339
>Doesn't the entire genre in general have trial and error though?
I wouldn't say so
I'm pretty new to the genre but so far I was playing the original dodonpachi, mushihimesama and blue wish ressurection +, in all these games I knew what I was supposed to do against each bosses attack, and when I failed it was mostly cause of my idiocy, but in for example touhou 11 with those green stationary bullets that follow you in stage 2 or 3, I'm not sure, you're just bound to die a few times before figuring out how to do it
>>
>>122474339
literally every shmup is about learning how to play it
>bullshit
I see who I am talking to here....
>>
>>122474574
Have you played touhou 9? it's a versus game where you basicly just have to outlast the opponent, it's RNG bullshit the game because the AI dodges the most impossible shit until it just randomly decides to run into a single bullet, it's not fun if your victory or loss is decided completely by RNG.

It's fun when playing with friends however.
>>
>>122474838
yes I have played it, the AI is based on a timer
>>
>>122474996
Only in extra mode is the AI based on a timer.
>>
>>122475561
no, they always are. The timer is not 100% set, but there is a ~30 second window in which they will always die (timing depends on rank and stage). One way to confirm this: if you don't shoot at all the timer doesn't start, so people that play for score stall stages for 1 minute by not doing anything at first and do not lose anything because the stage will also last 1 minute longer.
>>
So I was thinking, there isn't much difference between Cave 360 ports and the arcade games, would I be morally entitled to play the roms if I purchased either the 360 ports or pc ports?
Heck, I'd even say the 360 and pc ports have far more content.

I'm considering this currently, and it would open the door to me to a rom collection that I'd feel morally comfortable with, I could even build a vertical mamecab even.

I really don't see how it could be considered stealing, since I paid for a license of use already and each version is pretty similar with no notable differences in them save for a lack of content in the rom.
>>
>>122464236

Niiice, Samidare.
>>
>>122477276
Yes you can by steam port on christmas sale and then have moral entitlement to snatch a candy cab from game center.
>>
>>122477792
>on christmas sale

No, I already own the games, I'm not that kind of cheapass, kek.
>>
>>122477792

This anon thinks I want to acquire licenses for 99 cents and feel entitled to steal physical machines and that's not quite it.

I want to pay a fair ammount for legitimacy. So given that home versions are what Soft sellers consider a fair ammount in return for a license to use their games...

The only one I really played was "The Raiden Project", which is really just Raiden II, on Playstation.

They're super straight forward. They don't have all kinds of complciated scoring mechanics or anything. Fairly bullet-hellish. I think they're basically training wheels for danmaku.
>>
>>122482408
When was Raiden in Mobile Suit Gundam?
>>
>>122482637
I have a much harder time with early raidens than bullet hells. The slow speed and the moderately fast bullets get me,also if you play with arcade settings using the checkpoints. The soundtracks for 2,3, and 4 are great.
>>
>>122483334
>also if you play with arcade settings using the checkpoints
Is there any way to remove that in mame? I enjoy what I can of the game, but checkpoints just destroy my motivation.
>>
>>122483653
No, since the arcade has that shit built in.

If you want no checkpoints, you'll have to use ePSXE/PCSX2 and emulate the ports of the Raiden games.
>>
>>122482194

They don't hold a candle to Raiden DX imo

Final boss (the giant, dribbling basketball, not the TLBs) is a bit easier on higher ranks, since the bullets will be moving faster and thus not cluttering the screen.

If I'm on a boss, I'll credit feed so I can practice the bosses patterns, and practice the next stage. Otherwise I'll restart.

>>
>>122508258
Unless you can reach 5th stage constantly, better start playing with 2 or 3 credits. Later stages is the best practice and you won't see progress any soon if you keep resetting the game before reaching them.
>>
Just got Mushihimesama, as far as I'm aware this is my first cave stg.

I'm confused about regular shot and full auto and when to use them. halp.
>>
>>122517415
Full auto is basically the same as pushing the regular fire button over and over and over again.

If you're playing Normal mode (rather than Arrange or 1.5) then full auto is nothing more than just a convenient button you can just hold down instead of having to mash regular shot.

However, if you hold down regular shot, your fire focuses and you move slower while holding the button down, which can help in dodging dense bullet patterns.
>>
>>122517415
Shoot shit. Is it big? Shoot that shit with focused shit. Are there a bunch of little fucks everywhere? Mash that spray shit.
>>
>>122518467
Focused shot seems to make enemy bullets slightly slower, or is it just in my head?
>>
>>122518821
If there's more stuff on screen (including your bullets), the game will intentionally limit the frame rate.
>>
>>122517415
Mashing regular shot or holding full auto do the same thing. Holding regular shot slows your movement down and focuses in your options. If you hold down full auto and mash regular shot, your shot becomes noticeably more powerful, which can be incredibly helpful during tough section. It seems like holding regular shot and tapping full auto also does something, but that one I'm not certain about.

Nope, not yet. It's coming along, though. I've finished explanations and picture references for most of the menus, but I still have yet to write up explanations for the gameplay and mechanics, or explaining the different types of weekly events.

If you've got questions about anything in particular with the game, go ahead and call me out here to ask. I'm usually watching this thread silently.

Well basically, clearing stages will earn you "Active Points" which determine your rank on the weekly leaderboard (#10 in pic related). If you press the prizes button (#9 in pic related) you can see the prizes for that leaderboard. At the end of the event (the beginning and end dates for the event are also on the prizes screen), you'll get whatever prize is listed for your leaderboard rank range.

For example, in pic related, my rank is 10,460, so I'd get the prizes listed for 10001st through 20000th place.

I dunno what to recommend but I will say to stay far away from any of G-Gee's ports of Cave games on Android devices, and likely anything with G-Gee's name on it in general, because they don't keep them updated. I own Deathsmiles on Android and it hasn't worked in almost two years because they haven't maintained it after the Android system updates.

You'll need an Android device, not sure if it's available on iPhone. Go to the Google Play store and download an app called "QooApp" that will allow you to get Japan-only games.

Then, open QooApp and search for "ゴシックは魔法乙女". The game should appear in the search results, you'll need to download and install that. That's how you get the game. Specific details for playing the game and navigating the menus will be included in my guide for the game, which should be finished around next week.

It's been several months since I started, so I don't exactly remember what the game is like when you first launch it. I know you'll have to pick a username for yourself and a starter girl, and I *think* it might also ask if you want the game to use high-res pictures or not.

It might be difficult to navigate since it's almost entirely in Japanese. I lurk this thread though and I'll try to answer any questions asked about the game.

It's called Gothic wa Mahou Otome, if you didn't know.

I've downloaded just about every single shmup on mobile and 99% of them are pure trash.

The only ones I haven't minded so far are Stikers 1945 III (specifically III, 1 and 2 aren't nearly as good on their hit detection)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ht_JFVR9v4

And

Mahou Otome, as >>122536402 is mentioning.

The problem that most of these mobile shmups suffer from is chunking. Like in Elemental Wings, Dragon Heroes or Soul Rage, it looks like it's going to be awesome, but when you actually play it, the 'stages' are like 15 seconds long with 3-4 waves of popcorn enemies and a boss. It's obnoxious as fuck to wade through 10 menus, clicking OK, clicking a Friend, skipping the pointless as fuck 'dialog' event they shoved in, and then getting a measly dab of gameplay that lasts under 30 seconds.

100% OJ is a different genre from the previous games. Kind of like Nintendo characters in Mario Party or Fortune Street.

Sora is entirely different.

>The world of Mushihimesama is a wild, untainted one where large desertic areas abruptly change into lush forests, all inhabited by arthropods called Koujuu: such beasts (basically oversized insects) are capable of surviving due to their hardened shells and, upon their deaths, leave them behind for vegetation to grow around them, in a natural cycle of life and death. However, their life force, called Levi-Sense, proved to be poisonous to the humans to the point of being named the Miasma; only sparse human settlements were allowed to survive, one of them being the Hoshifuri village, in exchange for the sacrifice of a 15-year-old girl every 200 years. However, the daughter of the royal family, Reco, is apparently the next in line after being given an ornate bracelet by a mysterious boy in Shinju Forest, where she lost herself at young age: by the day she turns 15, the Miasma contaminates the village. In order to save her people, she enters Shinju Forest once more, riding the golden Koujuu beetle Kiniro (with which the golden bracelet grants a telepathic link) on a quest to meet the Koujuu god himself.

Should make the OP more informative. Could be links to freeware titles or other PC games, pastebin repositories of information (Xenocide files, system11, and BulletMagnet has great lists along with history lessons http://www.racketboy.com/retro/shooters/shmups-101-a-beginners-guide-to-2d-shooters), maybe weekly/biweekly scoring competitions to get people in the thread to play shit they otherwise would not have.

To be fair there are bigger companies with more impact out there. Shanghai Alice is still in the game and puts out new work consistently, albeit /jp/-tier shit.

Those formed in the wake of Toaplan had varying degrees of success, and G.rev/Takumi are the smaller fish who still hang on to their few notable works (Mars Matrix/Giga Wing and Under Defeat/Border Down).

Future for all of these non-doujin companies is bleak.

What's so bad about it?
>>
>>122769798
Massive slowdown. Not like in CAVE games; the game lags heavily through most of the game, and at many points dips to a quarter or less of its full framerate.

Broken weapon system. It's a Raiden clone with the Raiden system, but two of the three weapons are useless, and the only good weapon is at its maximum power at 4 upgrades. If upgraded beyond that or worse, to the maximum, it actually gets weaker, so for the majority of the game you have to avoid power-ups at all costs.

The game punishes death very severely. You lose all upgrades, which is very difficult to recover from on the later stages and in the second loop (more on that later). The game is actually pretty generous with extends (2 score extends, 2 hidden 1-UPs) but those will do you no good. Recovery is generally more difficult than in most checkpoint games.

There's a glitch that allows you to gain 7 bombs from every bomb item pick-up (you get 1 bomb drop per stage). To perform the glitch, you have to NMNB the game up until the fifth stage, and then no-miss to maintain the absurd bomb supply, making the game into a bombspam survival fest.

The second loop is absolutely hilarious; the health that enemies have increases to 2-5 times their regular health, which makes many small enemies unkillable in the later stages. This includes destructible bullets, which become indestructible shot absorbers in the loop. The health increase also applies to the extremely laggy and boring bosses, which now last for several minutes. Playing it revolves around activating the bomb glitch, and spamming bombs heavily to be able to even kill enemies - no-missing is mandatory to maintain the bomb glitch, and recovery is impossible in the hard parts of the second loop.

Maniac, not much going for score in original

You get a huge bonus for every remaining extend, so most of the score comes from no-missing the game. The rest is minor stuff that amounts to a couple of million on top.

Stick for me.
>>
Why is playing 2hu with a stick so hard, even though I play everything else with a stick?
>>
>>122833949
I don't even have one, but I'd still say arcade stick.
Playing many games on a high level becomes pretty impossible without a stick. Games like Ikaruga for example, where you have to precise as fuck to play really good.

You just have much more precision and control with a stick, since you can work with your whole arm instead of just your thumb or fingers.
>>
Morning /shmupg/.

What's best stick for shmups? I'm playing on a sanwa for fightan.
>>
>>122833949
I'm usually more into keyboards, but I've been gradually moving onto gamepads.
>>
>>122852136
Any stick with seimitsu parts should be good enough.
>>
>>122852136
Sanwa isn't bad for shootans. I use an original TE right now, no complaints.

LS-32 is a standard joystick for STGs. AFAIK, the LS-58 has a smaller deadzone and throw than LS-32, which already has deadzone and throw small enough.
>>
>>122879862

So theoretically LS58 would be my thing, then. Is it fragile?

>>
>>122880460
If precision is your number one priority. then it probably is. I'd advise you to have some extra money on the side in case that you won't be satisfied with the joystick.

About fragility... I don't know, honestly. It should be durable just as any other joystick.
>>
>>122882462
I'm asking because I've heard seimitsu parts are less durable
>>
>>122882874
My LS-32 still works fine after having it for more than a year and using the stick regularily.

Only problem I (may) have with it is that there are times when the joystick somehow feels weird while using it, but that only happens with fighting games. Otherwise, it's good enough for my needs.

You still have other companies to choose from, if you doubt Seimitsu, like Hori, Crown, Industrias Lorenzo... , but I don't have anything to say about them.

>>122997289
Learn the enemy patterns and ways of dealing with them. In that game's case, destroying enemies quickly is extremely important, as it's easy to become overwhelmed with bullets if you keep things alive, not to mention some of the bigger things clear the screen of bullets when destroyed.

Also important is maneuvering around to draw enemy fire, a lot of things shoot directly at you, while others shoot in the direction you're moving so taking advantage of both to draw enemy fire and avoid running into unexpected shots is important.

Get used to using bombs as little as possible, so you can save them for when you REALLY need them, which should generally only be for those REALLY difficult boss patterns that leave an open spot in a weird place like the center of the screen that you need to clear everything to get to if you don't notice it immediately.

>Get used to using bombs as little as possible

Speaking of, there's a section in the very last part of Stage 3 before the boss with the head of the Carrier Bug and the walls of turrets on the sides. If you destroy every single one of these and then the head without using a bomb, you'll get a 1UP for your trouble.

Doing this is tricky (and I wish the Training Mode let you skip right to this section of the stage), but worth practicing. https://youtu.be/aUcv4G4g9T4?t=8m35s (skip to 8:35 if the video doesn't)

Credit feed to the end a few times to learn what parts you have the most trouble with, then practice. Try to find ways through the trouble parts, or watch other people's 1ccs (up to and including superplays if you want). Learn what part is so dangerous to you that it would be better to just spend a bomb and get through safely.
>>
What are some shmups that don't give the 'you have to practice' mentality? Nothing wrong with it but not every game in a genre necessarily has to be hardcore.
>>
>>122997289
Don't move around unnecessarily. Beginners tend to flail around everywhere which actually makes you more likely to get hit. Also, try not to change directions unnecessarily for the same reason.

Don't stare at your character constantly, if you get tunnel vision you won't be able to react as well to incoming threats. The more you play the more you'll get a feel for the position of your character without having to look directly at it. You should also adjust your range of vision based on the speed and density of the bullets. If the patterns are fast, you need to look in a larger field than if the patterns are slow and dense.
>>
>>123014623

If you're talking about games that are just fun to play that don't focus on scoring, then most horizontal shmups are under this umbrella.

My personal comfy shmup is R-Type Leo.
>>
Page 10 bump.
>>
>>123005039
I always use a bomb for this (I'm not confident in switching from one side to the other) and I still get the 1up each time.
>>
>>123014623
Personally, I like Espgaluda to fall back on. Easy scoring mechanics to get into (scoring through counterattacks is fun), Guard Barrier makes survival simple, and not hard overall.

Giga Wing is another favorite. More difficult, but the Reflect Force takes most of the edge off. The RF figures into the scoring, which I also find easy to get into. And I have a thing for pinball scoring and scooping up items (see: Crimzon Clover).

>>123022963
Really? Maybe use of bombs is allowed, as long as they don't destroy any of the parts.

Double Hibachi is Death Label. All bosses twice over with double TLB on a single life.

It's not normal, no, but there are other games that have that level of intensity. Generally games that are already challenging with a second loop feature, or ones featuring rank control (Raizing games prominently).

Psikyo loops are notoriously difficult. Raizing games with the rank jacked up are nigh on impossible, and that's by design. DDP 2-ALL is still a fabled clear that requires years of practice, same with White Label DOJ 2-ALL/Futari Ultra.

There's a weekly competition going on right now elsewhere. I don't mind doing one here, but it would overlap with that for the next month.

Time-wise, I'd prefer 2-3 weeks or even 1 month over just a single week. It's hard to get a run in so little time.

Destroy the boss's most dangerous parts before moving on to the main body. It's possible to pointblank and destroy multiple parts down at the beginning of the fight with the aura if you practice it a little.

I can't be the only one here that thinks Mushihimesama's scoring is horribly contrived, right?

Why not pick something more accessible both score-wise and survival-wise. I mean, considering that MAME pack that's floating around, we have a lot of choice in terms of games.

How about something like Espgaluda or Dangun Feveron instead?

Besides, everyone deserves knowing FEVER.
>>
>>123072338
The interest in Mushihimesama for the first challenge is that it's the biggest new release, even if it is just a port. However, I agree that scoring is pretty weird on Maniac, and I assume we'd be playing in Maniac for a thread challenge since Original doesn't have a lot in the way of scoring.

If enough people agree, then it should be easy enough to decide on something else with a strawpoll or whatever.

That's the thing; I'm really terrible and doubt I'd be able to get a 1cc in the timeframe either. Is Parodius: Non Sense Fantasy a good first shmhup? I find it rather fun, got to the 4th stage so far
>>
>>123083509
Most of the Parodius games are pretty great, honestly. Despite being "parodies" of Gradius, they have a better scoring mechanic built right in with the bells, and they usually let you pick from a variety of ships, unlike most Gradius (barring Gaiden).

>>123084107

How the fuck do I bomb?
>>
>>123115118
Have you tried pressing X?
>>
>>123115649
I was actually referring to the ability to bomb at the optimal time, i.e before a death, which is a skill I am unsure of how to cultivate.
>>
I put around 2.5 hours into Mushihimesama today. Mostly into Original, then some runs in Training Mode (damn, I'm glad home ports have training modes). I can now make it to Original Stage 4 consistently. And I'm hitting 2.5M points to get an extend before Stage 3. I feel like I'm learning a lot and making real progress.

Stage 3 is still somewhat of a wall. I'm working on curbing the dumb mistakes around the mid point and the boss to make it through without deaths. I still chuck a bomb during the boss' last attack phase and point-blank it for a bit.

>>123009020
>>123022963
Tried it using one bomb while switching sides, I still get the 1UP. I should've been doing this from the start. I was always used to how Stage 3 1UPs worked in Cave's other games. I still want to do it without bombing, just to see if I can. I'll practice it with MAME savestates.

Stage 4, I think I've got a strategy for, and mostly the boss as well. Stage 4 as a whole feels easier than Stage 3. I don't think Stage 4 will be as difficult to overcome in the long run. The boss seems sort of random at points, but maybe it's because I haven't practiced it enough.
>>
>>123115956
The stage 4 boss has a lot of randomness. It moves around randomly, and the phase 2 opening attack has spreads that come out in a random order. If you get unlucky you'll get two or more of the narrow spreads in a row, which can be hard to dodge.

>>123122965
>I think it was Blackbird @ Degica who said that the 360 games would be easiest to port so they'd be done first.

Sounds about right. If the general plan is to shift over 360 releases to PC, I'm totally cool with that. Even if Mushihimesama had a rocky start, Cave and Degica can take what they've learned from that and apply it to future ports for the platform going forward.

>>123126080

They already said that Raiden V would be trying something new to shake up the traditional formula. That's all the info we have. Let's discuss one of my favourite games, Guwange.

I like Guwange. Guwange I like. I don't even know why. It has a spider kitty. It's kinda reasonable for beginners. Nothing of it seems memorable, but I dig it like it was a waifu or something.

When I pick the archer grill, I am at home. When I shoot through the very weeb setting, I feel like a boss.

What makes Guwange so special, /shmupg/?

Do you even like it? I hardly see it mentioned, but an anon just posted a pic.

I also like it a lot.
To bad it's digital only and the PCB is extremely rare.
>>
>>123169457

With luck we'll get soon a pc port, since I doubt there's major work to be done.

Yeah, I'd love to have that pcb and it's probably the only game I currently would like to have on pcb, but then again it'd be a mistake, since I'll prolly have to travel a lot, so the only good it'll do for me is legally entitle me to play the rom.

Also I have it on good authority that's pretty easy to have blue label once you have the pcb?

Will there ever be a boss more bullshit than this?
>>
>>123189816
Big Core mk III because his 2nd phase is impossible unless you go outside the enclosure.

I wouldn't call Vaif bullshit, unless you don't know to stay well the fuck away from the inflatable guys they spit out. They always attack in the same order, so if you have tailgun you can pointblank the shit out of each one as they open. Hitting the top middle with tailgun is fucking annoying, but if you can't get it you can easily survive with one head left until it times out.

I'd say Ultra Larsa qualifies too because some of her attacks are literally undodgeable, and you just have to throw resources at them.
>>
>>123190950
Big Core mk III isn't too bad with slowdown+ample powerups, and since the lasers are always the same you could just memorize and think of it as Volkmire's Inferno on crack.

I thought half the heads required tailgun? In fact I have no idea how to beat Vaif without a setup that has tailgun.
>>
>>123191219
If you don't have tailgun I guess you could poke your options in there and get them that way
>>
>>123191587
I've tried, but by the time the previous wave of heads are gone and you move in, the second wave is already there and you die for sharing the same stratosphere as them.

Usually I'm able to put two options there prior to the fight and bombard it with spread, but without that I just have no clue. It's the one roadblock preventing me from picking any other type at the start and it's really frustrating.

>>
>>123255386
>>123255025
Only 2 things matter:
1. how's the lag
2. are you comfy with it
If it has a build and parts you're familiar with then it shouldn't be necessary to actually try it out but if it has some weird "comfort" features and unfamiliar parts you may want to at least order the parts and put them on your old stick.
Then again, I guess you can just swap the parts on the stick anyway...

No anon, that thing is not especially laggy. As for comfyness it is your standard Sanwa Denshi set of buttons/stick, very appropriate for me, since I have never handled a stiff stick (seimitsu are more stiff).

I am more concerned about dropped inputs and pcb failures, that's why I'm asking in case anybody knows.

It's not like I have much choice in sticks at that price poin t though, but if I have to shell out a few more yuros, I will.

Pic related, a google-fished image of that qanba model.

It's unfortunate, but for the catatonic pace of this thread, I like it more than I like the shmup threads on other boards. Maybe it'll pick up some pace with the next one if we do a thread-wide scoring competition as was discussed; something for all posters in the thread to be discussing or competing with.

>>123290139

>>123290515

Well there's your problem. You can't expect to do well on the higher difficulties without putting in some practice.
>>
I am slowly improving both my survivability and scoring on Eschatos. Such a good game.
>>
>>123291163
I take it there wasn't a practice mode in the arcade game, so I won't be a pleb and use the dumb practice mode.
>>
>>123291317
What makes you think that the people wouldn't buy the home version, use the practice mode to work on their survival/score skills, then go play it at the arcade?
>>
>>123291728
Why wouldn't they just play the home version?

And not all features are good. Practice mode is clearly a bad feature for this game, just like continues are for all games like this one, and like how quicksave/quickload is a bad feature for many other games.
>>
Does anyone else here have ADD? One of my biggest problems is that I get distracted really hard at the easier parts of a game, then have a hard time focusing later on when I need to. I also make really weird/dumb mistakes.
I'm getting better at it, but I've been playing shmups on and off for year without this going away
>>
>>123291728
What about when the home version didn't exist?
>>
>>123292232
Welcome to hell. There's no cure aside from trying to focus or doing Adderall.

If you score you could reduce the amount of easy parts to a minimum, but it doesn't really fix brain problems.
>>
>>123292159
>Why wouldn't they just play the home version?
There's more prestige to beating at an arcade, I guess. Iunno.

>And not all features are good. Practice mode is clearly a bad feature for this game, just like continues are for all games like this one, and like how quicksave/quickload is a bad feature for many other games.
Why is practice mode a bad feature for this game, and why are continues bad for all games like this? I think practice mode is very handy, as it allows you to access the parts that you have trouble with without getting bored doing stage 1 ad nauseam, while continues let you see parts of the game that are coming up later without worrying about losing your 1cc.

>>123292318
Credit fed and watched other people? I have no idea, by the time I started going to arcades they were all lightguns and fighters.
>>
>>123292671
it's not about prestige, arcades are social gathering places.
>>
>>123292671
Because they undermine the game's difficulty, turning it from "how do I win?" to "how long do I want to spend grinding?" or "how many credits should I limit myself to?".
>>
>>123293410
Shmup is all about self-improvement. All about working towards that 1cc, and then a higher score. These are tools to help you get to that goal.
>>
>>123292817
Maybe I used the wrong word, then. I mean that they practice to get good, then can go look cool in front of their friends and get their initials in the machine. Either way, ignoring tools put into the game to help you get better isn't a great idea, but if it's how anon wants to play then good luck.
>>
>>123293567
So should I insert custom practice modes and continues into other games, like using savestates on an emulator? No. Suffer the game over screen like God intended.
>>
>>123294280
There's a sizable difference between using emulator tools and using something in the game.
>>
>>123294598
For arcade ports the game is literally an emulator.
>>
>>123211967
Garegga is overrated as fuck. Even moreso than CAVE games. There are loads of shmups that are better. Bakraid and Batrider are better. Hell, even the Raiden Fighters games are better
>>
New thread when?
>>
>>123295971
Make it, holmes!
>>
>>123158742
Raiden Fighters has good gameplay, but the music is terrible. Especially RFJ, that is probably the single worst shmup OST in history. Pure godawful garbage.
