Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo AKA Grandmaster Challenge

It's highly based around the neutral game which is why I'll always recommend it. SFV is also going for the same neutral focus so learning ST now may help you for when SFV drops.
It has its own share of bullshit but that's stuff you learn to deal with as you play.

Do not play ST if you are a beginner. SF4 is better for learning the fundamentals. In ST motions are really strict, and being able to reversal consistently is needed in that game, and there is no leniency. Reversaling consistently in ST is more difficult than landing one frame links in SF4.

You just call them combos. Links are when you connect two moves that do not cancel into each other. The point of 1f links are purely for difficulty, that' it.

link = "linking" a combo manually at the end of you first move (i.e. linking sagat cr.LP into another cr.LP in USF4)

chain = "chaining" a move by interrupting a normal into another normal (i.e. ryu cr.LP chained into another cr.LP by just mashing or any target combos in USF4)

chains exist in SF4 but they are not used often because normal (non-target combo) chains cannot be special cancelled into special moves (i.e. if you chain ryu's cr. LP into another cr.LP, you cannot cancel into a SRK) so they have no value aside from linking 1 or 2 crouching jabs into a stronger move to hit confirm.
chain moves in most KoF, anime, non-SF games are the norm for combo routes. there are still links here in there in those games but those are usually involved in juggle combos, trades, or situational counter hits, for the most part.


1 frame links are an entry barrier and were never intended to be in SF4, they just evolved into the meta and capcom decided to leave them there. this is the main reason people were hesitant about SF5 when first playing the beta/demo builds since the combo route is no longer lights/mediums linked into stronger attacks (unless its a counter hit or w/e special situation). this is also the reason why capcom has been deliberately removing links like those in newer builds.

Yoga Flame has uses as a combo tool, for example if you land a b.mk you can combo into the medium one I think and it gives you a knockdown to exploit for positioning. The EX one lets you juggle into things afterwards, though I can't remember what's useful after it.

Also, all of them have a lot of active frames, I think all of them can give you a lot of advantage if you meaty with it to hit them with the later active frames as they're getting up. The heavy one is so slow that people can reaction ultra it, though. Yoga Blast's only real purpose is to AA with the EX one as his most reliable AA, and I think you can use it for a juggle after certain very specific AA situations too
