What's going on in your game, /civ4xg/?
>>
I bought Civ 5 recently from Steam and also installed 3 steamworks mods - JDF Hitler & Stalin, and map of Old World - issue is that they don't show in the game even though it says the mods have been loaded. I also tried to delete the mod cache and reinstalling the mods but that doesn't change anything.

Is this a common problem or should I just refund and get Endless Legend or Space instead?

Times the AI was a lot more clever than you dared to expect

>Be Spain and forward settle Harun al Raspberry because of Mt Kailash reasons
>Expect war and make an army around Barcelona, which was next to Mt Kailash and Raspberry
>War comes and a large Arab force descends on Barcelona
>Fight of the force with ease thanks to being prepared
>All of a sudden they start moving, not towards Barcelona but towards the north
>They can't be going to Madrid as Madrid was protected by a mountain range and the only route to it was via the north east
>Realize they are heading to the recently settled Cordoba
>Fuck.jpg. Cordoba can't hope to repel such a force
>Do my best to harass the enemy on their way to Cordoba but Cordoba falls regardless
>Raspberry burns it down
>As usual when this happens I go full Goebbels
>Give Raspberry a taste of total war with composite bowmen and catapults
>conquer Medina and burn it down in retaliation
>Raspberry sues for peace
>Too late now
>Conquer Damascus and Mecca and eradicate him
>Everyone hates me now, but I don't care: I got my revenge
Still, his decision to go for my less defended city amazed me
>mfw he went for Cordoba
>>
>>122399531
I said to scroll down to the pictures anyway. The text above that doesn't matter.
You weren't communicating your problem well, so I gave you a general guide to using mods in hopes that it might solve your problem.
Help me figure out exactly where the problem is. So you hit mods, went to the mod screen, were the mods you want there? I assume that if they were there then you would click the check and hit setup game at the bottom. After you hit setup game, does it display your mods as the bullet points like in http://grogheads.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Your-Guide-to-Civ-V-Modding-MadnessStep-5-Single-Player.jpg? If so, once you hit single player, are you then not able to scroll through the civilizations and find your desired civ? Is the map not listed under map types, even in advanced setup?
>>
>>122404441
AIs can actually be decent at assessing how easy it is to take a city (especially with mods). I had an unmodded game where Japan overwhelmed me with a huge invasion force. I reloaded several times trying to figure out how I could have prepared and what I should have done, and his army would consistently shift its destination depending on how many comp bows I had in my capital vs the other city that was close to them.
>>
>>122404865
Yeah, it lists all the stuff exactly like this but map mods doesn't show up in the selector, or custom civilizations don't show up either.

Funny thing is that I also downloaded enhanced ui and CiV BNW Quality of Life Modpack v.5-singleplayer manually (but they are installed into the DLC directory instead of the user/Documents/.../MODS) and they work in the game just fine.

So this has to have something to do with Steam. I was browsing through the steam discussions and can't find anything there.
>>
>>122405273
I don't know, then. That's a really odd problem. I don't think EUI or any of the quality of life mods should interfere with mods from the workshop, but I guess you could try moving them out of the directory temporarily and seeing if you can see the workshop mods then. I don't think that's too likely to work, though.

Threadly reminder that Amplitude will save the 4X genre on November 19.

>First of all, we will release on November 19th a big free update for Endless Legend, called “Forges of Creation”. This update enables the access to Steam Workshop to store and retrieve mods. We have also greatly increased the abilities to mod the game, for example by adding compatibility to a popular Map Editor (bring forth your favorite fantasy worlds to Endless Legend!) or the ability to reskin 3D units. So thanks to all our Closed Beta Testers who’ve helped us test the new modding tools & Workshop!

>We have also added new gameplay content, to follow up on your passed GAMES2GETHER votes and community unlocks from the Steam Free Weekend. Last but not least, the AI team has worked a lot on improving the AI of Endless Legend. Most of all, they built better tools to understand what was going on with the AI decisions. This allowed us to fix lots of problems and this is a lesson we will keep for our future projects. We will share more details on this free update content in the upcoming days. By the way, did I mention it was free?

We are also going to release a content pack containing a collection of 20 quests related to Minor Factions (The Lost Tales, 1.99€), and another pack featuring 7 new musical tracks composed by our one and only FlyByNo, with related new items, such as the “Harp of Noby Fly” (Echoes of Auriga, 2.99€).
>>
>>122408764
>As far as Dungeon of the Endless is concerned, we are also going to release a humongous big free update due November 24th, the “Organic Matters” update (wonder who comes with those names anyway…), featuring lots of content conceptualized by you in Forum Creation Competitions and the GAMES2GETHER. You will be able to try the new Organic Spaceship, fight with 3 new monsters including Vultuu, play with the new Rosetta hero, build the new minor modules and check out the brand new ending sequence. Also, our work on console has allowed us to deliver a proper gamepad interface for the game, which can be activated in the menus.

On top of this free update, we are proposing a content pack (The Rescue Team, 1.99€), adding 3 Rescue Team heroes with very unique skills we’ll reveal next week, two new monsters and a new major module. We can’t wait to have you get your hands on this!
>>

What is best mechanic to stop "strong getting stronger" symptom?
>>
>>122461886
If you want a easy game to learn shit, play Poland, they have a strong boost which requires literally no knowledge of the game
Play something below prince perhaps to learn a bit of build orders.
Don't go for settler though, the AI is a bit to weak then and you won't learn enough
Tip, explore a lot.
Luxury resources such as gold and citrus are key, because they allow you to have a big population

Other than that, just fuck around
Just as the most here started

If you go with a world map like giant ynaemp I think you can make it work quite smoothly with your first city next to the jungle, maybe your first two. Then expand into the jungle and place manufactories on the marsh tiles.
Maybe internal caravans for prod in the jungle.

The brazilwood camps no longer get trade post bonuses right? Going commerce and buying buildings for the amazon cities could be another way.

What are the best "windows" of conquest would you say? Like where the unit you get for diverting slightly to grab the tech is quite strong relative to anything else.

Like when you just hit Construction, that's like a 20-30 window to basically do whatever the hell you want because they can cut through warriors/spearmen/archers like a hot knife through butter.

Artillery is also like that, but less for its ability to kill units and more for the fact that taking a city is made more or less into an entirely safe affair, requiring you to only clear out the enemy units.

Rocket Artillery do a ludicrously high amount of damage, doing to late game cities what the Hunnic battering ram does to cities before turn 20.

I dont have CIV5 installed, nor save files, so I cant check.
Normally they are complex XML or JSON text files, and perhaps you can find the settings part of them and compare it to a setting for some other game, with simultaneous turns on, and see where they differ.

I havent actually had to edit game files for years, surprised there isnt a third party tool to do it.

Marathon players, what are your favorite civs on marathon? Do you prefer civs that are really strong early and then drop off (e.g. Assyria)? Civs that are consistently decent but get a really good UU (e.g. Arabia)? Or just civs that are about the same strength all game (e.g. Poland)?
>>
>>122568461
I only ever finished two marathon games, both on huge worlds (used that mod which makes a gigantic earth map).
One was with China, the other with the Maya. Both were me getting a religion and city spamming.

Also, its a bit of a cheat, but if you want to have a good shot at getting a religion on Deity try the No Free Pottery mod.
Normally the AI starts with Pottery discovered, and thus gets a shrine at like turn 5, but if they have to discover it most wont, and those who do will finish whatever they are building before switching to shrine.
This evens the field a bit, although its still a problem in some games.
>>
>>122569647
If I wanted to play as Byzantium, I would probably use that mod

I've just fallen into a routine of conquering empires and fending off groups of 7 barbarian lancers spawning randomly across my empire.

Alot of people play on quick/simultaneous turns on MP. Including all my steam friends. Forced to play against AI only cause they won't back down on their shitty game setups.
>>
>>122577623
I play on quick and simultaneous too it's just that during war against other players the game can't let you play on simultaneous, it'd be chaotic for two or more people to be attacking eachother at the same time so the game changes to sequential until the player vs player war is over.
>>
>>122578083
That's hybrid. Simultaneous is allways simultaneous. Yeah it's fucked up that's why I don't play with my friends.

original question anon here.
Yeah we used to play hybrid but my friends think it's too slow and I don't have a problem with playing simultaneous. It's a lot more chaotic and you lose units by making mistakes sure but it does work. Every Civ 5 player on twitch like for example Baba Yetu and Filthy robot plays with simultaneous turns
>>
>>122576228
Back in vanilla when I did my first immortal game I managed happiness as mongols by razing most cities I conquered.
I really was a plague upon the world, conquering an ancient civilization and then razing 5 huge cities and keeping puppeting the capitol just so I could move on to the next target.

God that was a beautiful game.
Started with a nice plains river with some wheat and a solitary mountain for eventual observatory.

There are many other opportunities to tune the map with variables at the beginning of the actual lua script file in your users mods directory. Those familiar with prevoius versions of PW will know what I mean. You can change things like land mass percent, mountain percent, desert percent, etc. There are comments in the code explaining what each does.

Never played a Civ game so the idiot in me decided to give Civ 2 a try cause people seem to like that one. I have no idea what I am doing. Why isn't my setter being built. The sheilds will keep increasing till they go off the screen and the unit won't be built, and if I try to buy the unit (for zero gold), no unit will be produced. What did I do wrong? I just want another city.

How are you supposed to play early game in Galactic Civilizations 3? Looking at the graphs, it seems like the AI spends its dosh in like the first five turns, whereas I save it to kick-start all my new civs, and I don't buy ships because the prices are so skewed. And everyone whines at me that I'm too weak because I don't waste time building shitty interceptors with no defences and 4 laser attack.

>perfectworld3
I'm not sure why, but every time I start a game with this map script I start off in or next to a ridiculously large amount of desert with hardly any resources. Even when I start somewhere fairly green I only have to explore a little to see that I am atually just on a small patch of green in the middle of a huge desert.
>>
game keeps CTDing when i hit next turn at turn 27 or something
tried strategic view, already using dx9 and a tiny res so i doubt its performance related
does the AI just sometimes do something which causes a crash or what
i dont wanna abandon my game
>>
>>122606360
Have you tried reloading, changing some of your actions, and seeing if the crash changes? Check where your units are the turn before it crashes because that might have something to do with it. Once, there was a graphical glitch of an antiquity site which looked like it was there but didn't show up with the resource bubble or in strategic mode, and my game crashed because one of my units was standing on it. Since you're at turn 27, that obviously isn't the problem, but checking your units might help anyway.

Out of curiosity, what Civ5 map do people prefer playing on?

At the moment i've been playing huge Earth maps with unbiased starting locations (one game I was Babylon who controlled all of Australia and the surrounding Isles), but i've been thinking maybe Terra would be good to get that colonization element into the game?

Damn this is the first big event to pop up besides the Constitution redrawings. What do I pick? The other option just gives me 50% chance to lose about 1,000 golden age points. Then again, this civ's ability is almost entirely dependent on golden ages.

Poll: Civ Gampleay vs Realism
http://strawpoll.me/6038255

Civ development teams have always stated they care more about making the game fun than realism, but IDK. I'd like to see only one continent have maize and with enough trade it can spread to other continents with similar climates and drastically increase food yields.
