If you go by vehicle kills (what these weapons are designed for), the raven is clear winner, with about triple the KPU of the pounders, and double the vehicle KPH.

Pounders have some utility as AI (assuming you can aim/hit the shots directly) and are TR's best anti-max weapon. That's why they're ahead in the base kills category. They're nothing special at their designed role though.

You know, there's a way to measure an actual applicable performance metric.

Take the quartiles like oraclestats does, average the accuracy and HSR for each quartile, then use it to calculate a weapon's DPS for that quartile.

Doing this you can start seeing how changes to a weapons stats actually effect the DPS that players experience.

If I get shot down, it's typically by a pilot who is good enough at aiming that I don't have the chance to bail, being attacked by multiple esf while concentrating on something else, getting Daltoned by a liberator crew, or suddenly dunked by multiple sources of ground based AA. So yeah, only occasionally.

If you pay attention to what's going on and don't do risky things unless fire suppression if off cooldown, it's very difficult to be shot down by sources that give you a chance to bail. In the occasion that someone gets lucky and catches me in a bad situation, such as a lock on missile in the middle of nowhere while at half health and no fire suppression, then the satisfaction of bailing and denying them the kill is worth running light assault in almost every situation.

Alright, say I get 35% acc and 40% HSR in close range fights. My "real" IVI score is 1400.
When spamming a carbine at long range, I'll get 20% acc and HSR; if you factor those into my total acc and HSR stats, my "real" IVI score will be lower than the IVI score I'd get by exclusively fighting at close range.
If you meant why I shoot at long range when I won't get the kill: for fun.

Ah I got you. I feel like that's why people tend to lean more towards one of the stats instead of all of them at once. To me planetside is very much so a game where each person has different goals and skills for achieving those goals

Well then I'll agree with you there but for me personally I use my stats as a gauge to determine what works best for me and to find any noticeable improvements in my play. I have the most fun in this game by auraxiom'ing weapons and getting fun directive guns to use and after the first ~200 kills I can reasonably figure out the amount of time it would take to finish it

The problem with battle rifles is that in the hands of someone great they are fucking beasts at all ranges, the entry requirements for being good with them are just really high compared to most other weapons.

They do need to fix the directives for them though, let the infiltrators use them at the very least, playing a class extensively and exclusively to unlock a weapon they can't use? It's a kick in the teeth.

A usual armor upgrade goes something like this:
5 stages: 10 certs, 30 certs, 100 certs, 200 certs, 1000 certs. Roughly 1340 certs to get that upgrade. Which is a fuckhuge amount of certs. And that armor upgrade makes you more resistant to damage. So until you get it you will be dying much more often. There's a huge disparity between a new player and a veteran, the new player not only sucks at the game because he doesn't know shit but every piece of equipment the vet has is better. Newbs get 1 grenade - vets get 4. Newbs have no c4, vets get 2. Vets get 25% damage reduction, newbs don't Vets guns are objectively better etc. The game is just structured super bad. The exact same thing applies to vehicles. If the game was any decent there would be different tiers, where newbs would play against newbs and vets against vets. The entire game is structured around getting XP - getting certs, so that your character can be better. But you'll quit long before you get those certs out of straight boredom from playing the game with a gimped character. Tribes Ascend died a similar death as this game.

Having played for extended periods of time on all servers, I can say that Miller is by far the most cancerous server because of all the bullshit it throws at you. People whined about HE Prowlers, Banshee, LPPA and scatmaxes, but you haven't really seen how bad it can be unless you played on Miller.
