as you level up you will start to find modded weapons, and sometimes the modded weapon contains parts that you can't create because you dont have the right perk.

so you go into the gun and modify it, and equip it with stock whatever (as it's the cheapest resource wise) then you will have the mod your gun used to have as a free use (will say attach mod rather than list of resources needed to create it) and you can apply it to another weapon.

should also mention that by another weapon, I mean another weapon of the same build as that one i.e. another 10mm handgun or from pipe rifle to pipe rifle

Do suppressed sniper rifles count as silent weapons for the sandman perk?

I just finished what is apparently the final quest in the Institute questline, thereby "finishing" the game, or the main story at least. I even had to google to make sure that this actually was the ending because no new quests showed up and I couldn't believe that this was it.

For the record I didn't do too much exploring, I did do quite a few quests for different factions until I had to choose between them. The bottom third of my map remains almost completely undiscovered. I assumed there'd be end-game quests to venture me there but what I thought was the beginning of mid-game turned out to be the final quest in end-game. This is at ~30 hours played @ level 37. .

Why is every major quest preceded by a nothing quest that begins with a conversation about talking to someone and then ends when you talk to someone?

To be fair, there are some hystorically proposed side by side cannon designs, (ST-II for example) but they never left the drawing board as they were thought to be pointless. Rest of that thing is an abomination though.

I have two questions if you'll read them:

1) Are settlement shops worth it? I heard they can give good items, but the cap investment is heavy. And what's the difference between the different ranks of the shops?

2) Damage resistance. How much does it really matter? I fuss over 5-10 points here and there with my layered armor when I can put on Power Armor for hundreds of resistance and still take appreciable damage. So should I stop caring about stats and go fashion? Will it make a difference?

bethesda just made weapon progression completely different. it used to be that you would progress within a weapon type (small guns, energy guns, big guns) but now it's more like you progress from using archaic gunpowder weaponry to using energy weapons and big guns. i still use my combat rifle to clear trash but it's pretty clear that big guns and energy weaponry are going to outclass the shit out of anything else i have

i don't really like it since i prefer gunpowder weapons almost always, but whatever. it's new and i've never played with energy guns in fallout games before

Are the hunting rifle and the sniper rifle separate weapons? Both seem to have identical upgrades.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering but I'm trying to fully upgrade one of each variant of weapon, complete waste of time but it satisfies my autism.

The modding and inventory system are fucking infurating though, especially when they do those stupid borderlands prefixes and you can't tell what a weapon is or if it's a unique/legendary weapon half the time because the prefixes push the star off the screen.

Also, castle confirmed for comfy. I was kind of annoyed when it looked like all the eggs and mounds of shit wouldn't disappear, but they did just as I was about to shitpost about it. Only issue I'm having now is not being able to board up the holes in the walls because fences clip into the rubble and it won't let you build.

2) The East Coast BoS during FO3 were a renegade sect of the BoS because Maxson was a bleeding heart. The Outcast sect in FO3 is what the true BoS are like.
3) After Maxsons death, the EC-BoS reverted back to their true ideology, which is what they're like in FO4.

The b8 is in reference to all this. Any true FO gamer knows the BoS are "evil". Some of the flack Bethesda copped for FO3 was also over this.
Another thing you should keep in mind is that while the BoS are "evil", they're really not. They seek to contain the power of old world technology in-house to curb-tail any future holocausts such as what created the current FO universe.
The Enclave on the other hand are purely "evil". They seek to eradicate ALL life that is mutated, which means anything and anyone that has exposure to outside elements.
