5 Reasons not to play on Lordaeron

1) Molten has a long history of scamming and shady business practices. In the past they would do things like randomly suspend people's accounts and offer for them to be restored for a cash donation. When they weren't making enough money from their cash shop they decided to intentionally break the Shadowmourne quest line so the only way to obtain the weapon would be to pay €70.

2) After five years their other WotLK servers are still horribly broken. The idea that Lordaeron will be any different is a joke. Molten is all about making money and they will only put in just enough effort to achieve that goal and not a bit more.

3) Gross mismanagement. They've had their databases wiped twice due to the owners jewing eachother. It is not advisable to invest time into Lordaeron because its very possible your character will be destroyed some time in the future. You can read all about this here: http://pastebin.com/tktcCEFC

5) Pay to win. They claim you only will be able to donate for gear 1 tier below the current raid, but everyone knows that's a lie. Lordaeron will go full pay2win before the end of T8 raid content.

What I'm planning right now is having the majority of leveling be through repeatable quests to turn in items obtained off of various mobs. I see potential problems with the way you're doing skills, and those are:
1) Lack of theme. Everything will eventually end up a bit samey.
2) No synergy, and little potential for synergy with other classes.
3) The class encompasses too much.
Instead of focusing on what you have now, you should try something similar to the Overlord LN (if you haven't read it, its pretty good for a LN that uses MMOs as a basis for its settings. There's also an anime but it doesnt go in depth on any MMO mechanics too much) where you can basically put 1 point in any skill for every one of your levels, each one unlocking new customization options and abilities and such. Pic related is what it looks like, though obviously it shouldnt function in exactly the same manner (I personally believe that a system for up to level 60, each skill being able to go up to lvl 7 would work best)
Pros: More build variety, more choice, would allow for more freedom and looser design and with proper systems in place it would allow for a higher skill ceiling.
Cons: More work, harder to balance.

Still, it seems interesting, though its hard to judge accurately and let my inner autism out when I don't know anything about it.

Its a bit limiting though, you cant choose what specifics youd like to improve, which would allow for more customization. Plus a single point per ability means you cant value certain things over others and have to balance with the idea that every ability and upgrade is worth 1 point, and no prerequesites means you cant separate "ultimate" (or whatever you'd call them) abilities as well.

How would you balance the tomes out though? What would stop you from getting all of the upgrades outside of artificial-feeling limits (ie "can only learn up to 2 tome upgrades per ability or something") and would just end up being considered a necessity. Think your 2 suggestions are the same, one just requiring tomes and one having a limit of points per class skill (could ve used to stop people from getting all stuff that benefits eachother so you end up taking more abilities and lets you add more talents that have a mkre global class effect, like as an example every fire spell has a chance to do something)

Hawthorne just make abilities require ranks to learn and higher ranks improve them. Fireball requires 0 in pyromancer but fireball rank 2 requires pyromancer 1 or whatever. Make some skills require levels in multiple schools.

Maybe you're just not being clear but this makes the most sense for what you're trying to do I think
