The problem is that 90% of people leave the lobby when the balancing happens, then people drop in and there's no balancing done.
People that join mid game gets to join whatever team they want too, instead of the server routinely balancing the game.

They have deliberately coded it to yield unbalanced teams.
If teams were randomed every time, you would see much more balanced teams.

Sometimes it feels like enemies don't get hurt much, other times I kill 3-4 people with one.

The fact is, individual skill and map awareness players a bigger role in those kind of games, since everything is so chaotic and you don't have teammates telling you where the 5 people on the enemy team are.

I'm a lowly level 7 and my aim is shit.
Played Sawbonez every chance I got (haven't bought any merc yet tho, I'm sitting on 68K credit) and had bad KDR and was pretty much always 2nd half of scoreboard. This week he's not on rotation and I didn't really like the other mercs so I went with Aura since I have a silver H42 from that free elite case a while ago.
Now I'm constantly first or second on scoreboard, win or lose, attack or defense. Usually second if I have a 1:4 KDR or we're getting suppressed to shit with AoE and I can't put a station as aggressively as I'd want (usually means we're getting stomped anyway). What's nice with stations is they encourage team mates to converge and hold a point instead of yoloing across the map each on their own. I still have shit aim but occasionally I accidentally twitch one-shot a spark upon turning a corner. And then I get killed by an epileptic Vas with an MP400 in CQB...
Am I still useful to my team or is it just XP padding ? Should I still get a bonez like I planned originally ? Or get fletcher/nader so I can compensate my terribad aim with AoE ?

How do I use Nader?

Also how do you people have weapon switching set up, especially when you have an extra weapon like on Nader or Sparks?

A lot of that xp ends up being from health insurance. If you're doing well with aura, you can hold off for a while and get an assault merc.

You know, something really annoying was having the speed of the burst on the BR-16 lowered from 857 to 800 RPM, might not seem much but makes each burst require more tracking, which is idiotic since they wanted to differ the burst rifles to make them not play like auto weapons with tracking.

Even my loadout cards make people salty.
In past games, I used the most broken and annoying weapons or items when I wanted to see enemies spam chat, but in Dirty Bomb I can just play any merc with any loadout and someone is going to rant.

I always found it interesting that really skilled streamers or pubstar heroes only ever seem to play Skyhammer, Fragger or Vasilli. I mean, yes it is fun stomping people, but I always wonder why they never seem to give their weaker mercs a shot. Seems weird to me to not mix things up.

That's why he's boring. He has one of the best primary weapons, 150 hp and an ability that is literally always powerful and useful.

- Arty and Kira have useful spots on all maps, you just gotta figure them out and time/position them correctly.
- Stoker's ability isn't just limited to tight quarters, it has area denial as well. It's like a second buddy to help push people into places you want or close off options for people to approach you. It's also a good escape utility.
- Skyhammer's ability is still useful in doors for when you want to push people a certain direction.
- Bushwhackers turret is good against non-scrubs too. You just have to make sure they either look at the turret or you, and whichever they pick benefits you. It can also give away an enemy's position.
- Proxy's mines are good for locating where people are and also for shooting mid-air/right after dropping. They also are distracting in a gunfight once you throw one in and start shooting, not everyone will notice or if they do, they will be distracted and scatter. Proxy is a really great distraction for your team to rush in when they scatter to detonate the mine or just lose track of mine's during a gunfight.
- Redeye's ability is not harmful to all parties, he's good for smoking an MG, smoking an objective and screwing with people's idea of where you are.
- Rhino can be useful as an aggressive shotgunner or as a surprise or as a distraction since everyone targets you first as Rhino.

I can see why you pick Fragger because you don't have to be creative. You can be creative with Fragger, no doubt there's some neat ways to use his nades, but you don't have to be. You can be lazy with him and still be very effective which makes him boring.
