And since Team Fortress Classic was in the "present day" [2000s?], Team Fortress 2 was in the past, and Quakeworld Teamfortress was set in a weird time travel period, I think it would be good to set TF3 maybe 15 or so years from now.

One of TF2's big visual themes Valve went for is natural versus unnatural, old versus new; in the places they inhabit, RED's bases are wooden and archaic and traditional, BLU's bases are big empty monoliths.

Perhaps TF3's minor artistic theme could be the replacement of human labor with mechanical labour?

I've got a Blizzardy Storm Robo-Modest, and it goes for a bit less than its normal counterpart but it's still all-class and looks pretty damn good.
It's all a matter of whether or not you like the design really. Backpack and pricecheck are pretty good with how much they're worth but they can undersell some of the lesser known ones and oversell the really popular ones.

It's because your effect and hat are brand new and they haven't been stabilized in the economy yet.
People will be nervous to try to buy your hat because as an investment what they put in, they may not get out of it.
As far as a robo hat, you will get blatantly lowballed most likely, but if it was an unbox then you shouldn't really complain no matter what you get out of it.

With the right paint some of them are salvageable or don't mismatch too badly, but I agree that there's both an abundance of hats that have nothing to do with most effects, and too little effects that are general enough to fit a wide range of hats.
