- Focus Attack is an interesting and complex mechanic that is what SF3 parries should have been.

- Fireballs aren't ridiculously strong like in ST so you actually have to play footsies.

- Large and diverse cast. Anyone can find a character that fits them.

- Crouch tech makes the pressure game more complex than the simplistic "low or throw" model of older games.

- Has the most competition of any fighting game out.

- Some of the SF4 newcomers (Hakan, Juri, El Fuerte) rank among the most interesting characters in fighting game history.

- The game is not too fast paced or rushdown based which allows for actual mindgames and not brainless flowchart offense (like Vampire Savior or Guilty Gear).

- Very good as a spectator's game both due to the mechanics and the pleasing visual style.

- Very well balanced. Almost any character is tournament viable despite the large cast.

- It's one of the easiest fighting games to learn, but it is also one of the hardest to master.

- Ultras are a great mechanic. Very hype for spectators, and makes sure to keep you in the fight no matter how close you are to losing.

- It is a link heavy game, so good execution is rewarded.

- Anti airs aren't free. You actually have to think when someone jumps at you.

- The game is incredibly technical. Lots of option selects etc

- and backdashing is actually useful in this game.

I'm sure you're getting the picture by now. I could go on longer, but there is really no need to. USF4 is a masterpiece of the fighting game genre, and in fifteen years time it'll be one of those legendary "OG" games. It gets unfair hate now due to its popularity and contrarian attitudes and just from people who don't understand fighting games.

It's basically a combination of Guilty Gear's meter with Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories card battle system, and being in a Dash State makes you immune to bullets but not immune to physical attacks, and guarding bullets (or wrongblocking) makes you take meter damage, AND there's a weather mechanic that is so complicated that it feels like RNG, when it's actually a cycle.

Also it's a loli fighter and each character (of whom there are a lot) plays completely differently with no clones or copies.

They don't really have a choice I don't think. There are a lot of scrubs in the 3S lobby. I've only put like three hours into that game and most of the people I've fought I've slaughtered with nothing more than my mediocre footsies.

I am slightly concerned about SFV.

My biggest concern personally is that it simply doesn't look an exciting game. Any SF had some hype mechanic that made the games fascinating to play and watch. I don't see that in SFV. The gameplay feels a bit too basic, and while ST was good despite being quite basic, SFV doesn't feel the same because of its sluggish feel. It's also true that there isn't too many high level play, but the fact there haven't been matches that made the game look better even in those beta moments has left me concerned about it.

I don't like the normals, mostly. Short reach I'm pretty much okay with but I feel as if there's too much pushback on block and too few hitconfirmable normals from outside of point blank range, reducing the risk of trying to interrupt the pressure with jabs; this would be fine if the "white health on medium/heavy normal hit" thing had any impact, since it would give value to just keeping your opponent blocking and give risk to trying to break out of extended pressure, but the values seem very small and recover quite fast. I think they need to up the presence of that mechanic in order to make pressure scary.

uncancelable/unconfirmable normals feel really unsatisfying to play with. I'm by no means an avid fighting game player so my opinion doesn't mean much but Rising Thunder suffers from this problem too and it's just feels really bad to have half if not more of your normals not actually lead into anything.

No one knows, Capcom hasn't made a statement and they likely never will. It could be anything. People keep saying its a ratings thing because SFV got a preliminary rating of mature a few months back.

They got this rating for blood, violence and gore. SFV clearly has none of those things; it was a preliminary rating that clearly didn't look at the game at all.
