My question is less about the crash itself (I get different crashes with different anomalies and different artifacts) and more about if it's possible to transmute using a different method (like dropping the artifract and pushing it into the anomaly).

If you're such a sperg that you're willing to force feed yourself the hot garbage that is ZoA's magazine system just to have some realism in your painfully unrealistic video game, then you're going to have to deal with all the bugs that come with it. That means figuring out fixes that not even Fatal could figure out.

The ZoA magazine system is objectively bad. Whether you like is or not is subjective. ZoA itself is a buggy, unbalanced mess on par with Misery, but gets a free pass because of Fatals dick suckers.

I'm honestly not sure if I'm glad that people are finally realizing this, or sad that no one with proper knowledge picked it up and worked on some much needed clean up after fatal committed suicide

Hud removal, invisible anomalies, binocular enemy-friendly indicators removed, hunger, changing the weight you can carry, new mutants, increased rate of weapon degradation, decreased item drops... The guns in all stalker games are balanced around a cone of fire, like in half-life. I saw a great infographic on it a while ago but I didn't save it, but essentially when you aim you're just tightening the cone. AKs and shit are still early game weapons so they have shitty cones.

STCS is generally better. Weapon animation and sounds are far better, so is general balance. AO3 inherited the vanilla CoC issue of bullet sponging whilst buckshot is stupidly powerful against mutants. The STCS ui icons are generally fucking terrible though.

AO3's economy is still pretty shit and the suit addon hasn't been merged yet. Not all items spawn or can be found in shops. The sights in STCS are also noticeably better (not so much scopes thanks to anon's scope cleanup).

AO3 does have more weapons though.

Trying to Install CoC on WINE here. each time I run the installation, It asks the language and then says that the program does not support the version of "Windows" I am running.

I went into the WINE config, and changed which Windows version to emulate and nothing was changed.

Impact negation directly reduces damage from physics based damage - falling, being shot, walking into a springboard being eaten by muties, etc.

Armor is more complicated. IIRC it has two effects. Firstly, it reduces the severity of bleeding from physics based attacks. Secondly, every physics based has an 'ap' (armor piercing) value associated with it. The higher the ap in relation to your armor the more damage is dealt (specifically relating to ammo: according to a Dezowave dev it can actually increase the total hit_power over its given value). Additionally, the higher the ap in relation to your armor the greater the severity of bleeding.

So neither one is really superior to the other, quantifying which one is better in any situation (maybe except vanilla) involves some decently complicated maths and you have to take into account mods.

Impact negation covers strikes i.e. a pseudogiant stomp. Armour covers everything related to getting shot. There are 2 parameters you should consider:

hit_fraction in outfits.ltx
bone protection coefficients from damages.ltx

If armour is not pierced, the formula is as follows:

hit_power*k_hit*hit_fraction*bone_damage

bone_damage is just a damage coefficient of the bone (body part) i.e. a property of the creature. Do not confuse it with bone protection coefficient mentioned earlier which is a property of the armour.

When the armour is pierced (k_ap > bone_protection), however, the formula looks like this:

max[(hit_fraction*bone_damage), (hit_power*k_hit*bone_damage*(1 - bone_protection/k_ap)]

See the problem? You can deal LESS damage when armour is pierced than you would if it wasn't. Obviously, this can be avoided by making k_ap value, say, 5 times bigger than bone_protection, but there's something to note: shit gets wacky for big k_ap values. Like:

(1 - 0.5/1) is the same as (1 - 0.1/0.2), but while with the latter damage behaves normally, the former will result in a fucking instant kill. I'm not sure why this is the case. I can only suspect that this may be caused by the fact that the bullet pierces the body and hits another body part i.e. you land 2 hits instead of 1. This is all speculations as I haven't gotten around to testing this shit properly. Anyway, to avoid this, use very small values for k_ap and bone protection coefficients.

I personally made bone protection coefficient equal to 10^[6-(armour_class)]. I.e. class 1 armour has bone_protection set to 10^(-5), class 2 -- to 10^(-4) etc. Only class 6 is set to 0.5. The only drawback of using values this small is that you can't make wall-piercing ammunition, because you need some high values of k_ap.

If you haven't gotten it yet, there's a scope in Dark Valley you can get for an easy job.
Put that on the fast-shooting AK and get some better armor if you can.

When I changed it back to vanilla CoP AO3 values I knew it would cause sponging, it doesn't count as 'wrecking' if I alter something that was unbalanced in the first place and then put up a tweak that specifically unbalances everything again for people who want that.

In fact, exactly like I said in my first post, I changed it initially until I get around to balancing it. Probably to a more STCSWP like damage model - which I started to do about three hours ago.

because the point of my post was that I was being really really sincere about balancing it at some point. So I mentioned that to show I had already started it without someone having complained about sponging. Could I have said 'I did it three hours ago'?
