Guys, I need help.

Watching videos and reading guides and even looking at some info-graphs about tanking, I see a lot of information overlap.I'm a new player, and picked tanking as my starting role. A lot of this overlapping info that I've been told is that good tanks mark shit, and the logic is sound as to why.

But now that I hit 50 and finished my ARR storyline, I just don't know anymore. People got pissed if I take the time to mark when there's a group instead of rushing in like a retard. Suddenly it's like everything I've been taught is a lie.

Should I give up marking and yolo it? What's expected of tanks in later levels and heavensward dungeons? I'm scared, guys. I just want to git gud. Please respond.
