I don't know about that. Also you should have 0 apt in ice. Counter-training was removed. Enough levels to get it castable then you have multiple solutions until Hydras come online. Then you just hope for a nice high level summoning spell.

This. the problem with hexes is that it requires a large investment to get the job done before it' has its throat slit by hex immune and ultra high MR monsters. With all the xp you spent playing around with casting slow 3 times to land it you could have had a stronger launcher damage and killed two guys in the same time.

They're stupid design decisions regarding spell schools. I don't understand them.

It doesn't make sense that something "intrinsically worse than making yourself stronger" should fall off to the point of being completely useless bar running into Invisibility (better on a ring since evocations is amazing) or Discord (there are much better high level spells).

It's this whole notion about how the player should solve every encounter by directly applying damage to the forehead or leaving. There are other options available, but for some reason they can't be any good because the kills are not worth the same amount.

And yet stuff like Meph cloud which does low level Hexes' job considerably better remains in play. Sure, Maledictions has Dazzling Spray/Hibernation, and Hindrances has Confusing touch, but the Poison school shouldn't be better at hexing than the hex school.

Replaced for Enchanters with Tukima's Dance, which is way more fun unless you need overpowered spells to win. (Arcane Marksmen only got Gell's Gravitas though, which leaves that background looking pretty sad.)

The basic problem with Enslave is that it *completely* trivialized enemies that Enchanters were already strong against, making the game less interesting without being that much easier. Tukima's Dance works against a slightly different subset of enemies and is also less powerful, so it's a better spell overall.

Aren't Mages better starters then melee dudes, in Crawl?

It's pretty easy to find a better weapon then what most melee dudes start with early on, so you can start training weapons, and because of cross training it's even better and easy to switch to something better.

Also magic gives you a tool to use against dangerous things you wouldn't want to tab, other than walking away.

And because magic books in general are rarer than weapons, it makes it harder for melee dudes to branch into magic.

Basically Caves of Qud takes place in a ruined utopia where all kinds of weird shit is. If the culture ever had an apocalypse, Qud would be what it would look like after 1,000 years.

There's this megacity that's essentially turned into a jungle and is full of nasty mutants and, in some of the ruined chrome towers, robots.

Well there's this part of the map to the far east called the "Deathlands" and it's where the biggest baddies live. The biggest, baddest of them all is the Chrome pyramid. It's essentially that one pyramid thing from Evangelon. It's surrounded by a very tough forcefield and has an armor value of 35 (meaning you need a penetration value of 35 or higher to do any damage. The best missile weapon in the game has a PV of 10)

It also shoots missiles like an MLRS, can slow down time, can teleport and can heal itself.

And as I just found, even a game-breaking character without a vibro blade isn't enough to take one down.

They're working out how to make score use time instead of turns, but the big thing that's stopping them is chei worshipers. Personally I suggest saying fuck 'em.

There are some interesting edge cases where swinging a zero skill executioners axe at nothing would heal you using less turns but the same amount of time than just resting would.

I would, but the latest stable release of 0.C was long as fuck ago, and there is a shitton of stuff added since then and as I heard even fixes some bugs in it. That's why I wanted to start playing DDA again in the first place, too bad I can't be sure which one of the experimental is stable and/or adds something new and which one is shit and breaks everything. I guess I'll just have to wait. There seems to be an issue about flickering on their github already anyway.
