So how much did the expansion improve the game?

I didn't like the vanilla demo, and reviews said beyond earth were mediocre....
Is it worth buying the bundle for $60 now? for single player only ?

And any word on the next expansion?
Or even the next civ game?
>>
>>121711383
I think it's pretty good now, and different enough from Civ 5 to have its own identity.

The diplomacy system is now the best it's ever been in a Civ game in my opinion.

The military units feel unique and are fun to mess around with. Domination victory and warmongering on higher difficulties is way more fun in BERT than Civ 5 now I think.

>>121711383
Still needs more leaders, space twitter tweaks, more unit upgrades beside 10% more combat strength, something like great people, world congress, improved wonders, remove affinity from techs and introduce a way of getting affinity points by acting according to a certain affinity etc.

Artifacts, diplo capital and agreements are good changes and so is the different biome with marvel quests, although they need to be more major than just some gimmick that you won't use most of the game. Looking forward to more improvements on existing content

The Hydracoral boost is pretty significant if you get it early
Vision all around the world and Hydracorals are now considered as workable tiles, instead of aliens/terrain
>>
>>121730285
Well in most of my games, hydrocoral gets rekt by the AI all the time and doesn't expand for me to make use of it's vision. I have no idea if the AI actually takes into account marvel quests when doing shit like killing aliens
>>
>>121730640
Thats why you get them early
The AI only starts their crusade when they actually have enough firepower to do so efficiently.
That's just before the first affinity units
Coupled with continental surveyor it allows you to get so many resource pods

>>121734426
What aspect of it you find tedious? I don't like leaving anything for the A.I. because it is pretty bad.

Tax rates you only change when a pop reaches a certain level, and since it doesn't grow very fast, you don't have to check many times

population policies it's equally easy to manage

ship design you really should do yourself since the ones the A.I. designs are awful and they don't incorporate the tech changes right away

troop recruitment you REALLY shouldn't automate, or else you'll be paying shitloads in troop maintenance for no reason

I just press F2 and check if every planet has at least 6 troops every now and then, really. I don't need more than that because the planets are never invaded since i have shitloads of ships protecting them. I just leave those 6 squadrons so the troop carriers can pick new troops anywhere.

Fleet formation - i just make a defense fleet for every system. Put a few ships in it, set "Home Colony" on the Fleet Screen, set the defense range to "system" and they'll never leave that planet unprotected (unless they need to refuel, but you will probably have that stockpiled on the planet already.). I build 1 medium space port for every colonized system to encourage commerce, resource stockpiling and just reinforce the position in case of war really.

Regarding attack fleets, i just make a dozen ships and set home colony where it's closer to the attack target. The way i play, i have to manually select all their targets, and that's a bit annoying, specially when trying to destroy 100 of mining stations, but i don't know enough about fleets to automate that part with simple strike-force fleets yet.
>>
Something i do is make a combat-oriented space stations with gas mining drills and put them on gas planets where there are fuel so it can serve as a refueling point.

Don't design ressuply ships, they're goddamn awful.

Research is something i never had trouble with. Just pick whatever you think it's best for your empire at that moment, i play with very expensive research costs, so i don't have to check that screen very often anyway.

Character locations is something i often forget to change, but since i use Inteligence Agents alot i never have an excuse to forget placing them where they should be.

I've always played DW on full manual, because i would just be watching the game roll out too often with automation on.

Later on i even turned off it's suggestions, since they were mostly shit and would just clutter up the screen anyway.

Now to try this style of life, might take a while to learn how to play with motherships correctly and using this FTL right.
>>
>>121734426
Use build order and then go to the "ships" screen and select multiple of the ships "under construction" to a new fleet. That's an easy way to keep track of a large number of ships especially towards the end of the game, I was churning out dozens of battleships a year to win pyrrhic victories against the shak'turi, also, I automate my taxes.

I would maybe actualy pass on the one fish if it's not a hill tile.
Black spot sucks, scout more to the north with archer for a better spot.
Maybe grab pearls from the north west, if you decide to keep blue unchanged.
>>
>>121740284
Theres alot of stuff, theres also a mod that adds alot of good things.
It might lack the scale of distant worlds, but ship designs are fun and life styles can be different.

It resources are more inline line with what you're capital planet is or another good one.
Can be a good thing to take someones key planets so they get fucked.
>>
>>121740007
What is this game, senpai?
>>
Any tips for Deity Domination? I feel like there are really narrow windows in which you can take advantage of certain technologies before the AI comes down on you with their oceans of units, like when Comp bowmen just come online, when you hit Artillery just before the AI starts getting aircraft, Just as you get Rocket Artillery, so on and so forth, but for the most part my conquests are limited to fairly local affairs, or side shows more or less. Like it's within my capabilities to clear out my continent, or my 'locale' on Pangaea, but anything more is a bit of a struggle
>>
>>121741035
Star Ruler 2.
>>
Okay, Distant Worlds autist here

I basically dropped the last game because many empires declared war on me and attacked several planets i had with enourmous fleet. I just didn't had enough military to defend my empire and it fell apart :(

So i started a brand new game with the Dhayut, since in the last game, the speed of my ships really annoyed the hell out of me. The Dhayut's special hyperdrive should make sustaining my enourmous empire way easier.
>>
>>121742064
You can always pay the AI to warmonger for you, or force wars to exhaust or slow down some runaways. AI doesn't have endless amounts of units, once you take down the initial wave, it's easy to push them back. Save units with upgrades as they can make wars one-sided. Keep in mind the AI is retarded at keeping it's units alive and relies on numbers alone with some technological lead in the early to mid game. Keep an eye out for what victory type each AI is nearing and choose your targets based on that. Don't spawn near warmongers Good luck

After looking at most of the sponsors in BERT.... I think Hutama is the most powerful one, the extra trade routes, divided among your colonies gives you massive amounts of growth and production. On Soyuz I'm able to have 1200 science around turn 220, have the best army in the world and build all the infrastructure and city buildings in every single city. By just having my new cities build a trade depot and several trade convoys thereafter, I can boost their production by ridiculous degrees.

Great game indeed
I'm playing on 1000 stars and 15x15 setup, 17 auto-generated empires, and sometimes, independent colonies create empires too.

Few, but strong pirates, Hard difficulty, agression set on 'restless' and very expensive research costs.

At the moment i've found 2 suitable colonies, and since colonization tech is already at 90%, i'm rushing to get them. They're the ones circled red at the picture.

I also found this Dlakar race nearby. I want to conquer them so fucking bad, but i'm afraid that mounting a fleet up to destroy him would be too much of a dent in my already damaged cashflow.

I'll gather all the defense fleets and attack him, maybe that'll be enough to defeat the dude...

WE HAVE LOST

THEIR ORBITAL DEFENSE STATIONS WERE PREVENTING OUR TROOPS FROM LANDING

THEY HAD TOO MANY CRUISERS DEFENDING FROM FAR AWAY WITH THEIR FIGHTERS, AND WE HAD NO POINT-DEFENSE SYSTEMS INSTALLED

HOWEVER, WE'VE MANAGED TO CRIPPLE THEIR COLONY TO THE BONE, AND WE'LL USE THE REMAINING SHIPS TO HARASS UNTIL MORE SHIPS ARE BUILT

THE CAPITAL SHIP HAS BEEN DAMAGED, HE'S TOO VALUABLE TO BE LOST IN BATTLE, HE'LL BE WITHDRAWN AND REPAIRED TO LEAD THE NEXT WAVE

FROM THE DEEPEST RECESSES OF OUR STARBASES, WE'LL FORGE THE LATEST DESIGNS OF OUR WAR MACHINES

WHEN UNLEASHED, THEY'LL SURELY PILLAGE, PLOUD AND PLUNDER FOR ALL TO SEE THE MIGHT OF OUR EMPIRE

the enemy ships have huge bonus to their weapons and shields, and their empires research stuff faster too.

Trying to decide on city layout here on Epic Diety Pangea as America.

Notable is a lake victoria to the west. You can get salt, spices, and lake victoria in one city.

Another is one river flatlands tile where you can get gems cotton and citrus (!) but would be forward settling the shit out of pocatello. Just south is a hills/mountain/river tile that likely won't trip forward settling but will not hit the cotton/citrus.

So confused about what to do.

From a game design standpoint they're the worst civilization in the game. They're RNG based. There are so many better ways they could have designed the natural wonder mechanic than 500 gold if you're first.

From a balance standpoint on diety in the vast majority of games their bonus is underwhelming because the AI hits the natural wonders first, and it's only a select few when they're OP as balls. I'd say they're just below mid tier because I just spain is a civ that loses quite a lot of games.
>>
>>121755705

>>121762579
Khan I think gets praise because they're the best pure military civ, even though they're mid-tier at best and it's really hard to come up with a reason to not play Arabia instead.
>>
Isn't it great when you share a continent with 2 Civs of sort of moderate aggressiveness, like China and Polynesia, where you know neither will destroy the other and then begin to snowball uncontrollably, but at the same time you know they're both aggressive enough to cheaply pay off into not invading you?

Domination is a hassle until Artillery. It's like before you've gotta contend with the fact that your units are invariably gonna be outdated, and the AI is going to have so many more of those more advanced units. It's so much better to just set aside conquest until you've got technological parity with the AI, or a really good opportunity reveals itself to you

Meh, all depends on the map.

II think you have to think of pre-artillery conquest and post-artillery conquest as two different things. Pre-artillery conquest is how you deal with being montys only neighbour on an island or a neighbour who built 5 wonders before the renaissance. Post-artillery domination is how you get wonders & domination victories.

Bushido doesn't really matter in my opinion, your main damage dealers (archers and later artillery) shouldn't be getting hit in the first place, and if they are hit, they will probably die. Meanwhile, the melee units you will be using to tank damage will mostly be fortifying and not attacking.

Super amazing pro Japan analysis by super amazing pro player.

Bushido is mediocre scraping alright. If for whatever reason your ranged units are taking hits their strength won't falter, although you really shouldn't be letting your ranged take hits to begin with. Your "frontline", which should be taking hits, will fare well, although if you're playing like not an idiot then Bushido really isn't anything more than a nice little bonus. Culture from boats and atolls is just sort of a flavour thing. Largely inconsequential, even on archipelago.

Samurai are... ok as well, I suppose. Their placement in the tech tree as well as upgrade/obsolete tech is kind of weird, although it gives you ample window to build a bunch if you desire. Great General II is nice but won't be noticeable unless you're smashing your Samurai into things en masse, which really isn't the recipe for victory most of the time. Shock I, with the Barracks and Armory, means you could have Cover II right out the gate in the Medieval era, which admittedly when combined with Bushido make for some very difficulty to to Samurai. The ability to build fishing boats is nice but finding opportunity to do so might be scarce if you're developing your empire properly. Useful if your navy pillaged some boats while invading and you need to replace them, though.

Zero are the best reason to play Japan because of how great oil is. No oil spent on fighters means more Battleships and tanks, ultimately. Sail in a fleet of battleships escorted by carriers filled to the brim with Zeros and you will have quite a strong navy.
>>
>>121784060
Ultimately you should just play Arabia. Double Oil should be more than enough, especially if you're aggressively expanding and taking other people's oil, and Camel Archers are infinitely more useful than Samurai, and will probably let you get that large mid-game empire to have access to lots of oil later
>>
I just had a thought that any Civs that we refer to as "The _____" don't really have a easy to use name for their land. Like we might say "Invade America", or "Occupy Persia", or "Annex China", but we don't have anything like that for the Huns, or the Aztecs, or the Maya etc.

I'm playing on Hard, very expensive research costs, restless agression, few and normal strenght pirates that do not respawn and 17 automatically generated empires.

I'm playing as Dhayut, so i have very fast hyperdrives, helping to supply the empire with the resources i need and giving my military a pretty high mobility.

I have 12 colonies in 10 systems, and i'm not sure if i should expand more.

Spain is just such a fucking fun civ to play, usually you'll end up getting a free settler from finding your first NW, then have it settled and producing ridiculous yields and a minimum of 8 faith before turn 20. Then, when you get Conquistadors and Caravels, you can just search the world for all the other wonders and settle them with glorious expeditions, or take them by force from the dirty natives.

Settle closer to France and the Shoshone, that way you can prevent them from settling there and it allows you to settle the other land without them interfering
>>
>>121758987

You are america playing tradition so buying tiles should not be a problem. First priority is claiming land. Place cities 1 and 2 asap:
1) cow between sheep and copper, claiming truffles, copper and gems, blocking off monty and feeding the capital.
2) On the river by the two bananas, claiming citrus and cotton, blocking off pocatello.
3) On the horse(extra prod) north of buffalo by lake Victoria, claiming spices and salt.
4) in forest between mountain, buffalo and pearls for a second feeder city.

You can squeeze in more cities as you have 9 luxes, for instance on the copper hill southwest of your cap,or just enjoy the fact that you will not have to build colosseums and circuses

I would say to not stop colonizing. What are your victory conditions? If you think you are stable, go for the +80% or more planets only. Personally I don't give a crap about the planet quality as I play with low colonization range to make empires more dense (around .5 to .8 maximum) and I quite like a vast empire. Up to you really, but it seems you have a solid base. Reading your past posts you seem to have a good advantage as well.

>>

Well, commerce has that discount on purchases which is fundamental for Venice.
The boost to great merchants is amazing too: merchants of venice already give double gold and influence, with that policy they are worth a gorillion gold + 99% Ally city state.

If i had to prioritize, unless the map is Archipelago or water heavy, i'd go commerce first anyway.

I mean, I only took the opener and those two points. The rest seem shitty. I got Big Ben too, so purchasing stuff is cheap.

I'm don't normally have the land to spam trading posts so the finisher doesn't seem as amazing to me. Maybe on a wider empire.

Why do i always get awesome starts (or, worst case, a good/decent start) with Venice, even at Deity?

Rolled pic related just now, and it's almost perfect, but the fact is that i had tons of great starts, almost as good as this one, with scary frequency.

My settings are literally Default:
>Deity
>Random map
>Huge size
>Everything else untouched

Does the bias favour rich spots to compensate for no settlers? Or am i just lucky as fuck?
>>
>>121831380
>Does the bias favour rich spots to compensate for no settlers?

It does, Venice gets the best spot on the map.
>>
>>121831508
Oh, that's really nice.
This makes venice actually decent in my book then.
No settler is a horrible penalty, but an amazing start + loads of money and Merchant of venice's powers make Venice actually quite fun and also good.

No settlers is still a huge handicap, especially at Deity, but i still love my greedy little doge.

Venice is probably one of the most loved civs.
Maybe it's because it's one of the few AIs who are never a threat, or maybe it's Venice's comfiness playstyle.

The AI can't play it properly most of the time, sadly, but the fact it can't settle and that its behaviour is pacific makes it quite a nice neighbour.

Regarding the playerbase, from what i've seen on civfanatics, here and Multiplayer, they always love the fuck out of their civ, even though it isn't that powerful, especially in MP games. They do tryhard a bit in wonderwhoring, but otherwsie they are the chillest.
>>
I've been playing Civ 5 Gods and kings for a few years but I can never win on any setting higher than warlord. I always run out of money because everything costs more along with higher maintenance. Then the comp zerg rushes and is always able to build more units. What am I doing wrong?

>>
>>121836435
Tall as fuck, grab 1-2 CS's for internal trade routes/better spots for trade, set up trade routes ASAP, use gol as it's needed whole playing.

The Ai can't play it right because it falls terribly behind all the other civs who can settle, and its unit production is way subpar.

So it gets either killed by neighbouring AI's or it stays as a bigger city state.

Human Venice can compensate for the lack of settlers with strategy, but i won't lie, not being able to settle is a major drawback against the Ai, especially in a Huge map where the Ai can spam cities.

In Multiplayer you need to literally cover your capital in troops. Even then, if all the other players gang up on you, you are left to trade with City states only, and your trade routes can be plundered.

Also, better get that anti-nukes building before nukes hit, or you are royally fucked.

I mean, another disadvantage that Venice has in the late game is being really dependant on Diplomatic victory. You need to make invading Venice a fucking slog or else everyone else has you in their sights once the information era hits. And for the love of hell get Nuclear non-proliferation on the books as fast as possible. Letting anyone launch nukes at you is game-ending.

I usually play Venice in multiplayer whenever I don't want to be a dick and play Korea or something else dumb, mostly because my friends suck and let me meme wonders in the early game and snowball a huge lead. They also either never warmonger me, probably because it's hard to find me. Against warmongers it's usually just a matter of wedging yourself into a position where it's more useful keeping you around for the cashflow and happiness from luxeries than it is to kill you. Of course, being killed isn't a problem when your friends can't make damage on your side city defended by 2 units stick for more than a turn, much less actually attack Venice.

>>121859039
That was me for the longest time in my most recent game. Somehow I had a tech lead the whole time, so I wasn't competing for wonders past Medieval. Then it was just a matter of making the most money off of my trades without letting them convert me from Judaism.

>>121859240
Oy Vey. Upkeep on armies is very expensive.

>>121873421
>Best = Japs for dat bushido

I played EL with my friends as cultists
Converted half the minor factions on my continent while my necrophage friend caused havoc on the other.
When we realized you could check other players' FIDS per turn, they realized I was 2 eras ahead of them and they all started gunning for me.
Good thing I had daemons
>>
>>121878581
We usually put the AI on Prince or lower, and none of them actually recognize how stupidly strong GL and ToA are. I never tell them I build it and I always tell them to stay away from it because it's a meme tech and the AI always gets it. Same for any other other Ancient wonder. For some reason my friends like warmongering but not against each other. Probably because they're scrubs who don't understand that killing off weak opponents is part of the game and doing so may fly in the face of fun.

Sure, spying is basically limited to tech stealing and congress bartering against human players, but it's awfully fun and effective to go politicking. I guess the short answer is most of my friends don't know what they're doing and I can take advantage of it.

One of my friends really dickrides Japan and Bushido, but doesn't actually warmonger all that effectively. I'm waiting for him to spawn close to me so he can try it and fail. It's sad that the majority of my games are uninteractive Island simulators, because nobody wants to meddle in the affairs of anyone else. I never bother with it when I play Venice or Korea because people are less likely to attack me, and I win the end game anyway since I'm lightyears ahead of them in tech as Korea, or I own the congress as Venice (Last game in Modern/Atomic Eras was like 36 votes for me, 48 for everyone else, Info was 58 and 68, I didn't even own every city state.) so if they aren't capable of outright destroying me, they either get destroyed by superior tech or I make life hell in congress.

I'm honestly waiting for them to tell me to pick a warmonger Civ. I generally only play with them these days as a social thing, since winning against my predictable friends isn't really difficult.

Very quickly.

First of all guilty mention that I'm using a mod that gives Byzantium +3 faith from the palace. It's supposed to help the AI better abuse its own UA, but hey.
Get a religion ASAP. Open liberty and go to collective rule. Settle as many cities as humanly possible, happiness? who cares it's only some barbs. I need that clay quickly. After collective rule, rush reformation hard.
If you get sacred sites you win.
If you don't you regret your life choices and play a standard wide game. +6 tourism per city with all them happiness buildings and all dat clay.
Dromons are a fucking godsend for defence. Three ranged attacks from a city is amazing and my naughty neighbour was denmark, they didn't get a single city.

>>
>>121953543

It does break pretty fucking badly if you try to run a game with all of them enabled (not even like in the game itself, but just in the database and shit)

What I do these days is that I have a spreadsheet of all the civs I have and then just use a random number generator to pick what civs to put into the game, enabling only those specific ones from my huge pile and just changing the start settings to include those.

The only problem I have with it is that I already know what civs are going to be in the game beforehand, which kinda ruins the surprise and wonder of exploring the world and then seeing like oh shit i'm neighbours with Hitler or something.

It's playable and runs smoothly at least. If only there were a way for me to not know what civs were present beforehand

Early bonus to gold, a UU that is unbeatable, and the great general bonus is the same as improving every unit in the entire game by 15%.

>>121950632
Their UU paired with their UA general is so good that to have anything else would require too much balance.

The thing I like about the balance patch is that it makes every civ have something powerful, rather than a few civs being "good" while everyone else has relatively nothing, making them seem overpowered in comparison.

>>
>>121959438
In the original, Egypt, because literally everything I think of when I think of Egypt, is in the set.
Legions of workers building wonders (their UA), ceremonial burials and mummification (their UB), and war chariots (their UU).

For Community Balance Patch though, I'd have to go with America, mostly because it captures the entirety of early to late America really well. That desire to forward settle anyone close to good resources, buy as much land as I can, including their land if I see fit, send out my Minutemen for clutch plays when needed, and then culturally dominate once I approach the modern era (with the MoMA UB). Science would've been nice too, with us winning the space race and all, but this is still pretty darn appropriate.

An additional +25% tourism and culture is pretty good in the later half of the game, not Communitas NASA Center broken, but good.
Personally, I'd prefer it over a small but early tourism/culture boost, because by this point, you'd probably have met everyone, meaning, no one gets to ignore it's effects when it's built.

Mod compatibility:
The Enlightenment Era is, by default, compatible with almost every mod which is unrelated to the tech tree. Other mods which add new eras will conflict with the Enlightenment, as will any mods which add technologies in the Industrial era or later. Mods which add a few technologies to the early game but do not adjust the length of the tech tree as a whole should be compatible, but this is not guaranteed.
Beyond the tech tree, Cultural Diversity will have support for the Enlightenment on or soon after launch, as will all relevant civs from More Civilisations and JFD's Civilisations. Support from other mods will come as they are updated by their respective authors.

Starting as a pre warp race is ultra comfy mode.

Playing as a race of aquatic octopus aliens, just discovered ancient FTL tech in some ruins on an icy moon in my system.
Built some mining stations on a couple of gas giants in the outer areas of the system. Traders and merchants started visiting my space port to trade for resources.
Pirates also visited, and demanded 'protection' money, had to oblige as my Empire is pretty week right now.
After researching the ancient FTL tech, my engineers had built a prototype 'warp bubble' generator, which I've outfitted into my mining ships.
The warp bubble allows my ships to zip around my home system quickly, however it's still to shit to fir onto my explorer ships as the distances between stars are too vast.
I've started to build up a small fleet of escort ships, mainly to take care of the space slugs and kaltors roaming around the asteroid belt.

Next step is to research a proper warp field generator, explore the galaxy a bit more and make contact with other civilisations.

Later, build up my fleet and find that pirate base, and blow the shit out of them.

Why didn't you use a Great General to seize the resources you wanted?
He would have hated you, but at least other civs wouldn't talk shit about it.

In any case. If you have a strong military, you can either not give a shit about what other people think of you or you can liberate some dead civs to get rid of warmonger points.

Oh, sorry, didn't realise it was that early in the game.

Yeah, the AI will freak out if you start wars early, better to just endure it until they forget and liberate civs or individual cities when possible.

You really need to keep other people away from your lebensraum; forward settling should be met by a quick war for the city itself (preemptive, if possible) and then sue for an even peace as quickly as possible as to not upset other civs.

It's best if you can get other civs to hate someone before you declare war on them tho.
There's nothing greater than denouncing someone and discovering that the entire rest of the world denounces them as well the next turn.

Is it possible to even make Spain viable on large islands map type? It seems like you literally never get a natural wonder on your starting island and by the time I get sailing and optics to explore around I am just way behind, I don't like settling cities that don't have wonders.

What am I doing wrong? Just seems impossible to find natural wonders on island map types. I've thought about waiting for Conquistadors before I even go out looking, but that wouldn't be until the Medieval Era.

Is tall actually better at anything or is it just a challenge build?
>>
>>122103513
Not really a "challenge" when it's so much easier just to go Tall.

Also because on standard sized maps, you're unlikely to settle more than 3-4 cities early because the AI will either nab all the good spots, or settle in crap spots but deny you good spots, and just generally annoy you with the fact they occupy too much space.
>>
You know what the civ genre is missing?

Simultaneous construction. Why can't I just decide to spend resources to recruit a swordsman after I have a barracks? Why is it impossible for a city to outfit a handful of guys with arms and army AND build a bank at the same time.

A city with a market should generate trade routes. A city with a Stable should generate mounted units.

For neck-beard kind of games, you're better off going the Grand Strategy route. Take it from another fellow neck bear.

Start with either Crusader Kings 2 or Europa Universalis 4 depending on which era you like best.

If you like both equally, then pick CK2 if you want a more RPG-ey quality to it (you roleplay as your dinasty, so you must ensure your bloodline as you will always play as your heir when your current character dies) or Europa Universalis IV if you prefer being the permanent, omnipotent ruler of a nation, a la Civ.

When you want to take the training wheels off, go for Victoria 2 and Hearts of Iron 3.

If you want to go even further into the point of no return Autism-wise, try Aurora.

if your industry is high enough you can do it for buildings but not units
really anything tier 1-3, or at least the infrastructure ones
units go up in cost as the game goes on, so unless you're cranking out shitty ones its still going to be a limited amount

in EL you can actually reorder your build queue so that you have an entire army with its 8 units 99% done individually, and just finish it all on one turn so you dont have to pay upkeep

you're right though, theres no 4x (to my knowledge) that has a builder queue, and a training queue that are both separate mechanics
its in browser cashgrab games, but not 4x

ICS is stupidly broken. Personal attributes and race are meaningless when you ICS.
Best units are temple units, always rush these. Stack enchantments on heroes and strong units (e.g. old troll for monsters, temple units).
As in ciV, the best strategy is to have a few elite units.
>>
>>122179792
I know this is a political reason and therefore stupid since this is a game, but I dislike Scramble for Africa because it reinforces the myth of the empty Africa. ciV simply cannot account for the nuances of nomadic tribes or any society that isn't a state society, so the Scramble for Africa scenario doesn't feel like it's really set in Africa.

GET HYPE, 4X is saved!
>First of all, we will release on November 19th a big free update for Endless Legend, called “Forges of Creation”. This update enables the access to Steam Workshop to store and retrieve mods. We have also greatly increased the abilities to mod the game, for example by adding compatibility to a popular Map Editor (bring forth your favorite fantasy worlds to Endless Legend!) or the ability to reskin 3D units. So thanks to all our Closed Beta Testers who’ve helped us test the new modding tools & Workshop!

>We have also added new gameplay content, to follow up on your passed GAMES2GETHER votes and community unlocks from the Steam Free Weekend. Last but not least, the AI team has worked a lot on improving the AI of Endless Legend. Most of all, they built better tools to understand what was going on with the AI decisions. This allowed us to fix lots of problems and this is a lesson we will keep for our future projects. We will share more details on this free update content in the upcoming days. By the way, did I mention it was free?

We are also going to release a content pack containing a collection of 20 quests related to Minor Factions (The Lost Tales, 1.99€), and another pack featuring 7 new musical tracks composed by our one and only FlyByNo, with related new items, such as the “Harp of Noby Fly” (Echoes of Auriga, 2.99€).
>>
>As far as Dungeon of the Endless is concerned, we are also going to release a humongous big free update due November 24th, the “Organic Matters” update (wonder who comes with those names anyway…), featuring lots of content conceptualized by you in Forum Creation Competitions and the GAMES2GETHER. You will be able to try the new Organic Spaceship, fight with 3 new monsters including Vultuu, play with the new Rosetta hero, build the new minor modules and check out the brand new ending sequence. Also, our work on console has allowed us to deliver a proper gamepad interface for the game, which can be activated in the menus.

On top of this free update, we are proposing a content pack (The Rescue Team, 1.99€), adding 3 Rescue Team heroes with very unique skills we’ll reveal next week, two new monsters and a new major module. We can’t wait to have you get your hands on this!

I have 400 hours in CK2, nearly 1000 in EU3 + 4 and nearly 2000 in the Civ series. Paradox games can be fun, but they're anything but deep.

Once you understand the hundred illogically designed and incredibly shallow mechanics they throw at you, they're an absolute breeze. Once there is no magic left to make you think what you do has an actual impact, th

Just won my first game on Deity.

Poland, Scientific, 296 turns, Large Pangea.

Started in the direct center of the map, and stole Denmark's second settler. Went typical 4 city tradition. That first war which was only 10 turns was the only time I fought anyone. Got the Manhatten Project finished, built one nuke and then banned them in the congress. Everyone from that point on was afraid of me as they had no answer. Super hyped I finally did it.

Tough situation here.

What pantheon do I get? Desert folklore might be ok, there is a desert just south of my capital and also there is a desert to the west, though I don't know if I will settle it yet or not. Uluru is to the East, has crabs and fish. If I get One With Nature it will generate 10 faith from just that one tile.

What do I do?

>>122233072
I don't think Greece knows it is there, there is only one tile that leads from his capital to that area. I haven't seen any of his units, I am pretty sure he doesn't know it is there. Either way I am rushing a settler once I figure out what pantheon I want.

Just finished the comfiest game ever. Played Netherlands on continents, got a cozy little salt-start on an island with two city states, right next to a larger continent with Bismarck and Isabella. Got three p. good cities going on my own landmass, settle Sri Pada right in front of Isabella because fuck that bitch, proceed to chill and watch the world burn while I get a cultural victory. Only war I fought was against Isabella, whose three cities I took swiftly because she only settled coast and I just got Sea Beggars. No competing religion meant loadsegold from Tithe and a nice friendship with Bismarck for shoving my missionaries down his throat.

It was a slog near the end, I'll admit, but this was really an inevitability after I'd conquered Moson Kahni and Madrid. Though getting Thebes was much harder than I anticipiated; While Egypt wasn't as advanced as either Spain, Shoshone or the Ottomans, they were much more widespread than I had realized and had more than twice the troops than the force I sent to take their captial.

Now time to play a civ that isn't hilariously broken.

>>122344192
Some wonders have several effects and bonuses and +1 culture. Eg GL has two writing slots, forbidden palace has the happiness buff and delegates.

Now imagine if the Colossus did the same thing.
Also i'd say Petra is so good because the AI usually builds it for 3 or so desert tiles that aren't hills.

Does anyone here unironically play egypt?

>>
>Get civ beyond earth rising tide
>seems pretty alright at first, liking the synergy bonuses
>Want to trade resources with a player
>Wait what, where the trade options?

THERE IS NO TRADE
You can't directly trade shit like cities, energy, or resources.

In addition the war spoils system needs work
>500 points in my favore
>took like all but 2 of a players cites
>try to make peace
>lol white flag, you guys are equal in combat!

I can't recommend it untill they fix the diplomacy, shits bonkers.
>>

How hard is it to create a new civ?
>>
>>122348761
that sounds quite cancerous
>>
>>122349707
Its pretty sad to since a lot of the units seem pretty fun.
Also Kinda a cool artifact system where when you do certain things (raid nest, conduct expeditions)
You can get these relics which in sets of 3 can gives unique upgrades or even wonders.

Some of the shit in the regard is kinda broke though, gotta wonder that made all Tec cost 30% less science which might as well be GG.

What are the rules for making the honor opener worth it? Don't you need to take a capital? I'm playing as Mongolia, London is pretty close to me and I am thinking of going honor right off the bat to rush war.
>>
>>122356797
Doesn't the honor opener only give you bonuses related to barbarians?

Not sure if I'll enjoy playing this one compared to the first.
>>
>>122357437
Mostly, but it is worthless to take it if all you are going to do is kill barbarians for culture and gold. Tradition or even Liberty is better if that is all you want out of it.

Honor is more so military focused and can give you better bonuses towards early war. I recall hearing Marbozir say if you aren't going to go Tradition and you want Honor instead, you need to capitalize on it by getting an early war in. Otherwise whatever bonus you get from Honor would have easily been better invested in Tradition.
>>
>>122357960
Well the honor opener is useless for war (outside of statue of zeus) but you can definitely make use of the exp and GG policies. The other policies aren't as necessary, so you can forget those and go for tradition.

Just got an interesting idea for my next Civ V game.
>Play as Mongolia
>Cannot settle any cities
>All cities must be obtained through war
>Have to declare war on the first civ I meet on the first turn I meet them
Wish me luck. Think I might try Honor opener for this. I'm also curious to know what the AI does to respond to a war in the first 10 turns.
>>
>today I will go for a peaceful diplomatic victory!
>well hello there, neighbour, how are you doing?
>oh shit, that's a pretty good capital you got there, man
>wait, why are you settling so close to me?
>w-well, maybe one capital capture won't be so bad...
>350 turns later
>domination victory achieved

Every fucking time. Why are all the other victory conditions so boring?

This is interesting as fuck, what pantheon do I get? Religious Idols and Desert Folklore are both still available.

I could start a 2nd city immediately right next to me for Desert Folklore, I'd get cotton and more gold. But there is a catch, Cero de Potsoi is semi-close and I am pretty sure the Celts are right by it. It'd have gold and copper.

WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO

Think I am going to take desert folklore, fuck this is difficult. Also the Celts settle some shitty city just behind Cero de Potsoi so I could still get it.
>>
>>122363580

probably folklore, theres a few decent spots for a desert city that isn't terrible even without folklore there

I usually get Shaka in my games, too. Fucking guy is a maniac, I think he is literally programmed to go to war with whoever he meets first. As far as we knew we were the only fuckers on the continent.

Militaristic city states give gifts from civs not in that game, unless I am mistaken. So shaka is not in your game.

I've noticed that warmongers generally won't declare war on you if you have a sea between you and their cities, so you probably don't have to worry.

I bought Civ 5 off steam and installed couple of mods from workshop - JDF Hitler & Stalin but they wont show in the game even when I enable them. Also tried to delete the mod cache etc but no avail.

Wtf should I get a refund?
