So, Gaster. He refers to two guys, one of them is obviously Sans, but who's the other one?
It could be Papyrus. That makes for three skeletons. That being said, I don't think he's quite smart enough for CORE stuff and I really don't like the idea that the Papyrus we know is actually just like a dumbified version of somebody else.
It could be Asgore, which would make sense, since he's the king and should be on top of ths kind of stuff.
It could be Alphys, which would mean that she was working with Gaster, and then retroactively replaced him entirely after he fell into the core.

Or maybe it's just two different guys entirely, who knows.

Well, the only one who mentions Alphys replacing Gaster is Gaster himself. Or, like, one of his followers or whatever. Basically, nobody remembers Gaster, so therefore there never was a Royal Scientist until Alphys was hired, and so the core and the DT Extractor basically just came out of nowhere and nobody questions it. I think alphys is pretty clueless about it all myself. Maybe both gaster and sans tried to fix it but gaster gave up on trying to fix the timeline anomalies they were seeing, and suicided out of existence, leaving Sans out cold?

I guess the problem is we don't know what the machine was supposed to actually do. It can't have been just a timeline reader because that's not that important. And if it was broken it must've worked at least once.

Here's my humble offering skelly sexpet filth. I'll put it on a pastebin when I finish. I'm not mega-confident in my writefag skills so I welcome any critique. I don't really feel like I've captured Sans voice yet.

Every time the human comes in, they slowly and patiently tease him, drag him to the brink of ecstasy with warm, fleshy fingers that know his body better with every passing day. Then, his captor abruptly pulls away and leaves, abandoning Sans once more. Aching, unfulfilled, humiliated.

There's no clock or window to track the days, all he can do is scratch a tally into the wall for each visit.

Sans stopped fighting back after the sixteenth time. Biting the human had lead to being gagged, tied down, then mercilessly edged for what was undoubtedly hours, till his cock was raw and he was howling desperately for them to stop.

Fighting's really not worth the trouble.

Now that he doesn't resist, the human pets and praises him. Being called a "good boy" and told that he's "so cute when you tremble like that" is a different sort of humiliating, but it's certainly better than the gag. Sans still shakes his head defiantly whenever the human asks to be called "Master", but that battle seems less and less important with each visit.

Salvaging whatever shred of dignity he can cling to seems pretty pointless. It's not like he can ever forget about the collar locked around his neck. The heart-shaped tag clinks against his collarbones with every breath.

More than anything, Sans is lonely. He hopes Papyrus is doing alright on his own, and doesn't spend too long mourning his brother's disappearance. Papyrus is strong, he'll be able to move on.

Sans has gotten pretty good at lying to himself.

Events in The War era are assumed to span across several centuries from the middle ages (when humans had wizards) to roughly 201X. The Asriel Chronicles, on the other hand, might have a timespan of less than a decade.

The biggest mistake I see is "Mettaton created sometime", because Mettaton (a robot with a SOUL) was the exact reason why Asgore appointed Alphys as the Royal Scientist. I also don't think the game ever clarifies when Gaster falls into the core in relation to the apperance of Chara. Just by random chance he would have died within the passing centuries that passed by rather than in 201X.
