Playing through DMC3 again on PC. It's been a while but it's still a joy.

Is Cerberus a lot easier than in the original release? I remember some attacks that I didn't see this time around.

There is a end game mode known as the Mushin's Tower (pic related) that'll puts everything you've mastered while leveling up to the test. It's a solo mode meaning you can't bring any friends. Mushin's Tower is pretty much DMC's Bloody Palace with more boss rooms than fodder rooms. Each floor will test your muscle memory and adjustment to new boss phases. There's also a timer which I know many DMC fans cannot stand, haha. Taking too long to kill something will place you back on the starting floor. The enemies are buffed up quite a bit - they're more aggressive with long bursts and next to no cooldown phases, so be careful! Many can easily three shot or even one shot you depending on the attack. I'm manly a PvP player but I always find myself going back to Mushin Tower to try and get faster runs than before. It's my favorite PvE content.

A quick and dirty one I guess.

>you have two melee chains: AAA (weapon) or BBB (hand to hand). This can freeform like BBAAB or my favorite BA into dash
>Dashing gives you a shoulder attack and a followup depending on what you press. Most of the time pressing B does a quick strike which you can follow up with your juggles
>you can interrupt the early parts of your melee chain into dash attacks or your specials (down down A or B. In Falcon, the guy I'm using, down down A does a rushing uppercut while down down B does a phoenix projectile)

And for those interested you need to crank the difficulty up to level 8/hardest. Enemies die to fast in the lower ones.

Nah, I'm the other guy who brought up Sengoku 3 when someone brought up Denjin Makai. His game seems a bit more fun but I've yet to try it myself to be honest. I'll do some more digging around with S3 and then try out Denjin Makai when I get the chance.

Still trying to find out stuff if you can go wacky with Sengoku 3's mechanics. What I've written up (and actually found some on Gamefaqs and some videos) is what I know of it thus far.

Sengoku guy here.

So apparently there are two more characters. A titty Ninja and some badass with a Chakram and Demon summons. Still kind of figuring out how things chain into each other but let's see what I figured out

>You can also interrupt your running B/hand to hand melee with a special attack but the chance of your special depends on how high the enemy has been launched
>You can't land anything after the recovery of your last hit of the weapon attack chain
>You can chain your air attacks, like jump in with B, then A to launch, then juggle off there

I'll try to record some more when I can demonstrating stuff. For the long run I don't think Sengoku 3 will qualify but there's some nifty stuff in the game at least that's cool as fuck to pull off.

So I just tried Yakuza Ishin again for my vita. To clarify the game is on ps3/4 and has a companion app on the vita that contains a big chunk of the normal game's combat. I always figured this game looked cuhrayzee, but it might be better than I hoped for initially.

There's 4 styles (5 on ps3/4) The vita version is limited to sword, gun, sword+gun, and fists.
Of course the first thing that came to mind was trying to style switch like a mufugga.
First I figured that the mechanics were not really carefully programmed, but I think I made an error in judgement.

For example if you target lock with the gun style you can walk while shooting. But this also means you can cancel using a style switch for some reason.
The gun style's heavy attack has a short charge up followed by a recovery animation that makes you stagger backward. But there is a small window between firing the shot and the stagger that you can cancel it with a dodge, and fire again, looping the process and increasing rate of fire. It kind of reminded me of sidestepping backstep kicks in godhand, but in a more compact way. There's also other parts of it such as a few parry frames when unsheathing the sword, or the fact that the gun+sword style has more cancels that the others.

I really want to give this game a shot, but my only fear would be that nobody will try the game because it's jp only. Let's hope it comes out in the west.

I'm talking about bayonetta 1, i don't know if i want to go back to bayonetta 2, the fact that all of its potential is locked to the bracelet of time annoys me a bit.

But i also was noticing how melee is weak in bayonetta 1, like, in NSIC, there isn't much hitstun from normals, unless is a launcher or a trip move, sergey's lover kinda solves that.

Also, someone here, i need to confirm that, i always believed that the only difference between Hard and NSIC was the lack of witch time (and some alfheims are different for what i know), but it seems that the player deals more damage to enemies on NSIC, i'll try to see that later, but anyone has any kind of input in this?

I googled some shit about it and apparently vita firmware update 2.06 fixed it. Also someone else said that setting the camera speed when going from 1st to 3rd person to the maximum helps with the framerate.

Metal gear rising had a similar balance. very hard was easier than hard because damage on parries was higher than on other difficulties. So it's not strange that bayonetta has the same kind of balance.

That is why i thought of verifying in bayonetta, while i didn't check (going to do that right now before sleep), i noticed that my damage wasn't as high in verse 3 and 2 of Angel Slayer, that are attuned to Hard, and i've been playing only on NSIC for months.(and i want a good reason to go back to hard, since i love having witch time)

Yeah, i did one entire run with that equiped, the idea was to pass the entire stage without dying.

It is a very good acessory for farming, and is very good in some specific alfheims (out of body battles), is good to guarantee combo points, but it is terrible because it fucks up the framerate and also make enemies super heavy, so you can't juggle them normally.

Why hasn't Tecmo released Ninja Gaiden 1/2 on PC yet?

What are they waiting for? I can't believe that the only Ninja Gaiden game available for PC is Yaiba.

ASUS MX279H 27" great monitor often overlooked as a gaming monitor because it's only 60hz but if you're using a console you wouldn't be able to go above 60 anyway.

I also ordered a BenQ RL2460HT 24" which has HDMI out as well which could be useful if you want to use a capture card without buying a splitter. It hasn't arrived yet so I can't give my personal impressions but it has great reviews.

Yes, mostly can only be done in Master Ninja because enemies are more resilient to damage, so upgraded weapons don't slice them up like butter in a single hit. NG2 actually opens up dozens of new ways to perform freeform combos due to the new system that allows for more varied cancels and allows you to link different attacks together, whereas NG1 was a bit more strict with the animations

NG: Razor's Edge has that, although the way combos are designed in NG2 makes it so that you can learn most of the various attacks on your own. It's very intuitive, but you do need to play the game for a while before figuring out "oh if I do this input instead I get a completely different combo string"

the no damage fights agains the bosses are super bland. regent was the most interesting one but even then its just running around in circles and then striking when there's a clear opportunity. alma and genshin are super boring because its just spamming a move over and over again

I felt like there was a tiny bit of DMC inspiration there when I played the game for the first time. There's another chick with bootleg summoned swords, and another one has lunar phase. The game technically has enemy step, but it works more like a smash bros foot stool and you can't act out of it immediately. Dash cancels function as the equivalent to DMC style JC anyway, so it'd be kind of redundant.

It was surprisingly easy. I've tried it on PCSX2 before but it ran like shit. I had some issues with Dolphin but a little help from the Dolphin wiki got the game running at 4x full speed. It feels amazing. Definitely use Dolphin if you want to run it.

Hey man, don't worry, you'll get sai fung soon, the thing is if you decide to play with Jeanne and Zero (i believe Jeanne everyone tries, but in 4 years playing bayo, i never had the will to play with zero). Then you have to grind.

If you have climax brace and pillow talk, just do Chapter XVI (the balder fight?) over and over, it is the fastest way possible.

Bayonetta for sure is grindy, but you have so much content and so much to work, that you'll have a lot of fun until you get it, the first time that i got sai fung, i wasn't grinding for it, i was just replaying over and over.

I'm using a BenQ XL2420G. I built a high-powered PC this year and wanted to go the G-SYNC route. I have to say, it does a pretty good job for everything I've thrown at it. G-SYNC looks great so PC games don't have screen tearing, HD consoles come in crystal clear in HDMI, and the XRGB-Mini plays nicely with it for old consoles.

Only downside is that it only rotates one way, yet Ikaruga on Dreamcast will only TATE in the opposite direction. Damn shame, but I might as well get the PC port for that anyway.

Speaking of which, the Dreamcast has plenty of horror, fighting games, and other arcadey stuff but there is a distinct lack of cuhrayzee.

As usual, /cgg/, I'm here to shill my cuhrayzee game from /agdg/

but in honor of VST7, rather than just rattling off about the latest stuff I've added, I'm gonna pay some special attention to the high-level technical shit I've implemented.

Here you can see a conventional MM*MMM dial-a-combo, and then a really quick tech alt to it which skips through the weaker first hits and instead repeats the more damaging later hits.

It employs two techiques.

1) Quick Attacking is a kind of melee attack which can be used while moving (rather than normal combos which lock your position) and which only takes about 10 frames, so the speed of the damage is more or less determined by how fast you can mash the button while strafing the enemy. It can be used to interrupt a current combo attack so you can move around mid-combo; if you do MM*M, then press quick and continue mashing it, then press M again before the quick cycle ends, it will jump to MM*MM. This lets you buffer normal combos with attacks that will quickly rack up your combo multiplier and allow you to close the gap or get an advantageous position.

2) Block Stocking is a technique where blocking (or dodging) in the middle of a combo will "store" the current attack animation, so that it can be "spent" later by attacking while holding block (you can only stock a move while blocking if you don't currently have one stocked, so you can block mid-combo to spend a move without stocking your current one. Dodges always overwrite). So it's sort of like a dynamic real-time God Hand thing. Ish.

Anyway, I exploit these two techniques in tandem; first I alternate melee and quick attack to very rapidly skip through the starting anims of the combo (if I was trying harder, I could time my cancels in such a way that they cancelled the anim JUST after the damage was dealt from the attack and skipped the transition), then I use a block-attack-block chain to cycle the same move over and over for extra damage.

Every move has its own unique launch vector and stun characteristics (i.e. does it cause the enemy to launch to interrupt his attack, or to pause mid-anim but not interrupt his attack) which is based on an inherent integer of the enemy class, as well as some other properties (for example, enemies which are "dead" will wait a moment to fully die, allowing you to continue your juggle post-0HP; doing so awards less points but more energy meter. The player can dash along the ground and in so doing can go off quarterpipes. He can also do tricks by taunting in mid-air, and grind.

So, sorta.

Also currently my plan is for the rocket-powered axe weapon to function as a hoverboard if you dash while using it, and you can do certain tricks (like pop-shove-its) as attacks while in that mode, but that's a while down the road.

I'm particularly fond of your pseudo dodge offset mechanic, the Block Stocking. It depends a bit on how you implement the rest of the moveset in a way that encourages the player to use it.
Dante in DMC4 wouldn't benefit too much from this, since he's a "1 move when you want it" type of guy.
But characters like Trish and ofc, Bayonetta, really benefit from storing their combo enders for later use. Smart mechanic!

Unfortunately that area is still a WIP. I plan to add "rush attacks" that allow you to exit a dash into a combo but that's not ready yet. Aiming with dashing works better, though, and using it to trigger bullet time sequences is pretty effective.

Dashing isn't so much meant to be a combat maneuver though, it's meant to be a movement maneuver; the kind of thing that gets you from fight to fight while still maintaining your combo meter

It's definitely more bayo than dante, which is why I added block stocking. You can stock a unique move for each weapon for each string (ground, air, ground special, air special) and it stocks your charge state between states (charging to 5 in air will keep that charge state remembered for when you block stock into a chargeable ground attack).

So theoretically you can make some pretty complex strings out of just block stocking and weapon switching.

I see. Well your movement is looking pretty rad. Wallruns into grinds into John Woo power slides... that's pretty sweet.
I think whatever you end up going with, Dashing will inevitably be implemented into combat by the players, so it's good to consider that possibility early on.

About the animations, I think right now you have some nice stuff on the legs and core of the character, but the inactive arm for example is not doing it's job as a counter-balance to swings where it's not being used. It's generally rather static. This is especially aparent during Propeller.
Another thing to consider is that some poses aren't as extreme as they could (and perhaps should) be.

If you want, and don't take offense to it, I can do a few drawover suggestions on some of these keyframes that might give you a clearer idea of what I mean.
(I do think that the movement animations are very stylish and are in general working just fine, though.)

Not only that but not being able to afford games would probably mean that you're already on a shit comp so you can't play them either.

I think the only games I pirated only were DmC, Undertale (which I plan on buying to support the dev), Sonic Generation (already had a copy on console) and Transformers Devastation (didn't think the game was worth it). Not him but Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 had combo videos a lots of technical aspects of the game being shown. Bayonetta 1 probably still has some life left over and Wonderful 101 could still be pushed.
But we have Transformers, a game with barely any options to use. It tries to be Bayonetta + MGR but it's extremely barebones. Plus it's not like you can't produce high level footage from a 2 month old game. People have done it with fucking DMC4:SE, within 3 weeks of the game's release.

No. I'm probably the only person here that even has the game, let alone the knowledge to actually talk about it in depth.

The guy that posted my other video just got responses about tits and people not even having a 3DS. I specifically told the one guy that asked about it when it got a western release that it wasn't cuhrayzee. It wasn't because it was lacking, it was because glitches make it 10x harder to do any of the shit in the video unless you have the japanese version of the game.

I don't talk about it here or post my own videos in general because nobody gives a fuck about it.

To add to this, the problem with some of the smaller titles like MKH, Korra, Transformers is that they're recommended just on the premise that they are sort of cuhrayzee-lite, very diluted versions of the big fully developed games.

That's sort of ok, but it seriously feels like we have them as recommendations based solely on a style over substance premise.

It's why it personally bothers me to see those games being recommended over say Darksiders for example. If they're gonna be in the list still, at LEAST put them in a section that's separate from Vanquish, Bayo 2, W101 etc because they're leagues apart in terms of quality and make it clear they're mostly not very complex or even content-filled games

damnit.. i get a new controller and now my virtualdub is messin' up and seems to freeze up the output/video preview whenever i delete parts of a clip. like, when i try to output the video after deleting part of it, it only outputs a single image for the listed amount of frames. anyone encounter that issue before? searching around on google doesn't bring up anything

but yeah, random trish crap:
the very first hit of grounded round trip knocks enemies back an extremely long distance- it also pulls them into the center of the round trip and re-adjusts their height to match the sword to a degree. you gotta be pretty close to hit them with it, but it's also got a slight backwards hitbox which looks really cool when you send them flying in front of you from behind. for some reason being DT'd increases the range at which this will happen

air v-divider has some weird thing going on with it where if you let the enemy just kinda fall they'll pause for a brief moment after a certain period of time proceeding the final hit of the pullback.

trish does have a just frame release mechanic for her bare knuckle attacks but it's only on certain moves- the first two attacks of her bare knuckle moveset aren't affected by it for some bizarre reason. i don't really know what differences there are besides damage increasing for the moves, though.

bare knuckle and sparda's first two swings do the same damage which is why sparda feels so weak i guess

The red hot kick in bayo only works in the diagonally down left or right directions, otherwise you just get that carthweel kick.

And because of the shit camera that doesn't autofocus when you lock on, and the fact that all the enemies are blurry messes it's much less clear when they are attacking which makes witch time a lot harder to pull of than a MGR parry but for artificial reasons.

Bayonetta has probably the most identifiable audio and visual cues for enemy attack in the genre.

The design is also really great, and also blends with the gameplay, by letting us know the armor state of the enemy.

And the system allows for both combo creativity while having very interesting combat.
I just love the freedom that bayonetta 1 gives to the player in general.

The only thing i'll say about bayonetta 1 that annoys me a bit, is that moves are mostly universal, just changing properties with the weapon, of course, we have kulshedra, odette, killgore and sai fung that breaks that a bit, but still.

Yeah but all of Bayonetta 2s weapons don't even make sense for the game. Considering how much they built the game around Witch Time utilisation it doesn't make sense that Chernabog, Undine and Take-Hammer can't even get half their combos off on boss fights before WT ends before they become useless again. Too much ramp up time on all of them to do anything interesting. On normal enemies they just feel like wave clearing tools and not combo weapons.

Also I would like to point out that while DMC4 doesn't have amazing level design, it's not necessarily terrible aside from really bad camera angles in certain rooms. It does it's job well.
Go to point A to point B with minor puzzles inbetween + rooms to fight enemies in.

DS2 literally shoves you into an empty landscape with nothing to explore and enemies aren't found in the overworld that much. The game itself doesn't present a fair challenge either because everything becomes HP sponges with no AI change whatsoever while you're grinding for good gear/upgrading skills.

I don't like how the strategy is oversimplified by parrying, and I don't think the armor is well done at all. You really can't tell when an enemy's armor is going to break because it's triggered in a strange fashion and you're better off just activating ripper mode every single time you want to finish an enemy.

It's still a fun game but the little details of the combat system really get to me, especially on higher difficulties.

DT'd enemies in DMC4 give away at a certain threshold, enabling you to stun them continuously until they recover while DMC3's stun mechanics are complex and effect knockback values. With all of that said, you can still intercept enemies.

Not really. I put it on the list to encourage people to take it seriously and give it a go, since so many people care so much about the fucking list.
I personally gave it an honest try, but ultimately it bored me far too much and I had to stop wasting my time on it.

I'm thinking of dominating each verse at the time.

I really want in a near future do stylish boss fights against Bayonetta, i think it is possible, but no one have done this yet.

I'm also praciticing varying moves and trying to do stylish combos during the fights, i feel that while i can do most stuff on bayonetta (at least what is known), i still can't do in a stylish, and well organized manner.

I can't turn on my wii u, so my practice with w101 will have to wait a bit more until i find a new power source, and i still have to unlock all those secrets.

It is kinda difficult to make stuff on console only games, you need recording material and such, and also, there aren't many people that have mastery of those games.

I plan to work a lot on bayo and w101, but i don't have recording material now, and i also am not a master of the game.

And the thing is, even if we have a super good player, he will come here, and post a webm, and few people will actually care, and this is not very encouraging, at least to post webms and such.

Are you retarded or are you just pretending to know what Hitbox Wipeout actually is? The whole point is that when mastered it can trivialize any attack an enemy throws at you, it has plenty of realistic use. Stylish varies because again, it's not combo material.

The point of what makes HW advanced isn't because it gets rid of just Raiden's hitbox for a small period of time but because it takes out the hitbox from the enemy's attack as well. So let's assume the action of HW itself is 5 frames or something, and the enemy's attack lasts for about 30. Those 5 frames of a quick HW help to seamlessly string together your attack plan while getting rid of what would otherwise have been 30 or more frames. The reason mastery of this is advanced is because it requires you to understand all incoming enemy attacks instead of mashing up and square simultaneously which gives you the block, and it opens up a new horizon of offensive potential.

The fact advanced tech exists doesn't suddenly mean people will hop onto it though. Lots of things have been discovered for FBF and God Hand but nobody that wasn't already a master at those games were really going to use them much. Hitbox Wipeout has only had two videos, both of which were by Saur on the same fight. The low quantity of videos where it exists doesn't suddenly detract the fact it does.

I'm pretty sure don't play any other games because they are poor, as weird as it might sound. Either that or they just don't want to buy any other system at the moment.

For me though, I have nearly every game that's on /cgg/'s list aside from VJ (don't have it downloaded), any of the Ninja Gaiden games (even though I have NG3RE, I won't count that), Vanquish, nor Sengoku Basara. I had an Easycap that was 10 dollars which ran ok but died within 6 months. Also some people use HDMIs so good luck on trying to find a cheap capture card to record with that supports HDMI.

My memory might be a bit foggy since it's been a while since I cleared it, but it had the typical zxcv, q+ arrow keys layout. But it also had the slow modifier(think touhou) key on something bizarre like O, and it could not be remapped. The only way to get it to shift was to mess around with reverting updates and patches and shit and even then it was likely to just not work at all.

I ended up just playing on pad since I couldn't get it to work in a way I like on stick or keyboard.

Honestly, Master Ninja is hard but not as impossible as people say it is.

As long as you know the following four things, you'll have a much easier time in Master Ninja:

1. Where the treasure boxes are and what they contain.
2. Where enemies spawn and what types of enemies spawn in a given location
3. Which Ultimate Technique works best against which enemies.
4. Blindspots and turns in hallways where you can safely charge your UT as you wait for enemies to get to you.

You'll have a much easier time if you know these four by the time you attempt Master Ninja.

Like at the Aqua Capital chapter, very early on there is a treasure box containing red essence. This means that early on, you can spam fire Ninpo to get yourself out of harm's way without worrying about needing extra charges.

Or at the Daedalus Air Fortress chapter, you can hide behind doors and charge your Lunar Staff UT while waiting for robots to come through.

Old ass discussion, but Bayo 2's weapons were just generally inferior to the first game's. There was no real reason why so many of them, like Rakshasa, Undine, and Kafka, had to be as weak as they were. Do people like GOD HAND? It just feels like a less good Street of Rage, but also a less good Zeno Clash.

It's juggle combo isn't as good as Double Dragon and you are constantly fighting the camera. It also has annoying platforming with lots of environmental damage despite not being based on exploration like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV.

Also all the enemy designs are shit, it's just over-designed blurry messes of Gold and Silver and feathers. Literally.

It's like the worst of both worlds.

You can do very complicated stuff in TD, you can pull off very difficult maneuvers, but none of them is an unintentional ability. You're MEANT to be able to do it and it's built into the game and documented as a mechanic.

So does that disqualify it? Does a game only count as technical if the things you can do are based on exploiting holes in animation priority or hitbox generation?

The ability to exploit reversal-to-vehicle-attack sequences when under projectile fire in T:D to gain infinite focus because vehicle attacks are treated as dodges by the game is pretty complicated to set up and awesome when executed, but it's also something that's there by design, it doesn't exploit an error in how dodges are calculated. You can cancel any attack into a command juggle launcher, including vehicle knockbacks, and that definitely opens up the way for some interesting combo manipulation but, again, unlike jump canceling or whatever it's a by-design capability, not an exploit.

Would "shitformers" people be more impressed with the game if half of the known combat mechanics came from exploiting bugs rather than developer intent? I kind of think so.

Darksiders 2 anon here.
The game has a few things to mess around with but again, not that much.

Some normal/basic mechanics in the game:
>Rolling cancels most moves.
>Cancelling attacks with Death's Skillmoves
>Weapons with freezing attributes causes enemies to fall slower in midair
>Weapons with lightning attributes causes extra stun over time
>Death's Quickfall (which lets him quickly dash straight down into the ground) ability cancels some aerial moves


Some advanced stuff:

>Infinite Height Gain
With the buckler secondary weapon equipped, you can use the charge move in midair to launch the enemy away and then use Deathgrip to pull them back, enabling you to reuse the buckler charge move again.

>Gun cancelling
Self explanatory but you can cancel certain animations with Strife's pistol. You can even use it to jump normally instead of using the kickflip attack that happens jumping after attacking on the ground.

This requires some timing but if you charge a move in midair then use a skill to interrupt the attack, you'll perform that skill in midair. Some skillmoves will keep Death in midair, enabling him to dodge in midair to perform a pseudo flying guard like Dante can do in DMC4.

The game takes way way too long to become something more than just mashing triangle, probably 30 hours or more. The plot is nothing really special, the worlds and their characters feel tame in comparison to their movie counterparts, and most of the music with the exception of a few boss themes is boring.

Personally I just like KH2 because Final Mix added some enjoyable fights.

There's 12 hidden bosses at end game called Data Battles and a hidden boss called Lingering Will, they're all challenging fights in their own right. Kingdom Hearts 2 has a mechanic called Revenge Values (on all bosses, not just the 12 + lingering will) which let you manipulate boss AI in pretty interesting ways and basically abuse what makes them hard fights, the tl;dr of it is attacking in certain patterns will produce predictable results that you can counter. It's definitely NOT crazy, but I find the manipulation aspect of it really entertaining to watch / play.

gunz 1. i don't think it's possible to manipulate the netcode to cause teleportation in gunz 2, at least not without deliberately lagging.

I'm still disappointed by godhand. Every time I hear it brung up it just reminds me of the last time I played and my disappointed when I expected dmc4 levels of depth. Instead I just got a super funny action game with very satisfying cancels and an interrupt system that is only usable by memorizing enemy attack patterns during your 500+ hours worth of playthroughs.

Well I feel godhand QTEs are already like nero's buster. They play an animation with the enemy locked in position. I mean to not make the enemy state locked into position. So if the enemy is in an air state pummel will have a different effect than if he was standing, or blocking, or staggering.

A very autistic report on grapples existing in God Hand by a certain big fan of the game, me

I feel the right way to do grapples in God Hand would take a great amount of setup and be very special in terms of properties.

On lower levels enemies just aren't that resistant so it would be fine to pretty much have them be braindead as the grapple boots up. Of course as the levels go up, they should become way more self aware of them and begin dodging/counterattacking. Imagine it like the Stomp as you go from 1 to Die.
Some of the grapples could also work like enemy grabs. So for example, enemies can have their "own" QTE, be able to fight back, and hit you. Of course to prevent this entirely, you should grab them when they are Dizzy or under Guard Stun. Grapples also don't work with counterhits, kind of like how QTEs don't, so I think it's pretty fair that a move which puts you in a totally different state of animation gets the same treatment.

tl;dr: Enemies can dodge and punish the hell out of certain grapples attempts. They can also mash out of other types of grapples and have their own counterattack QTE for it (not guaranteed in either case though, but definitely best not spammed.) Grapples being a totally different state of offensive matter cannot counterhit, but are best used in combos where the enemy is stunned/dizzy.

There should be a ton of different forms of grapples as well. Roulette Grapples should always cost since I can't imagine those of all things really missing.

Also if anything I think Grapples should be used as a sort of breather/reset in God Hand instead of pure damage (could you imagine how broken it would be if they gave you both huge damage and i-frame boost) because they usually if not always end with knockdowns in fighting games. Knockdowns in God Hand's Die are a sort of reset in similar ways.

Learning by itself already takes a long time but for indies, they usually wanna release smaller projects first before tackling huge projects that might as well equal actual studio produced games; if that's even possible in the first place.

Instead of focusing on something new, my advice would be to focus on making yourself look good.

If everyone focused primarily/solely on bringing something new to the table, a lot of footage these games got would never actually have come to light. Try to be expressive. Focus not on "I struggled a lot so this combo will look fantastic", or "Bet nobody's ever done this thing in this specific way before". Focus first and foremost on "Will the viewer be impressed with what I'm doing for my current level of skill? How well can I convey myself stylishly? How can I constantly wow these people?"

If you're saying you want to come up with material to record from yourself, but can't come up with anything from labbing, messing, or whatever, then try the next best thing: Imitating one or more of your favorite players, while adding a bit of your own personal spice to it. Doesn't have to be exactly as good, but it'll get you somewhere more than the imagination that apparently chose to betray you this day.

Depends on the game, mileage varies

Imitating combos can give insight on a fair amount of interesting things. For example, you might be confused why a certain combo isn't working on a certain type of enemy, only to find out that enemy you've been fighting has certain properties that make the combo work differently.

Some combos are also best imitated to help muscle memory and goal setting, DMC3 and 4 are probably the pinnacle examples of that. All in all it's more about getting to know the game in general. Imitating a Viewtiful Joe combo wouldn't be good training though. You can learn some things from it but it's far from what makes the mastery of the game so good to look at.

If it looks good though, and if you can imitate it with your own spice to get your feet wet, totally go for it.
