The main problem with most faxes is most are asking for us to send them something. A representative, an ERT, etc.

We usually don't have enough players who can do that. A lot of the times we can't even send ourselves as a representative because we're so wrapped up in other things.

This is why prayers are answered way more because it's a lot easier to just splatter some blood around for the chaplain and spawn him some gimmicky thing that doesn't do anything but makes him happy.

How would you separate the CO2 out of the tank and just have the 1 mol of hot plasma in the tank?

I'm laid up in bed feeling like shit so I'm going to go over what I did to send an ERT.

1. Get fax. Can't reply yet because I'm looking into someone who may be being a bitch and rurus come first. Players already have a game to play and I have a lot of things that are more important than enhancing the game for them.
2. Get back to the fax, which by now is a long time ago but thankfully the player is still nearby a fax machine. Take into account everything I've observed, from checking the number of antags and who is an antag, to the station damage/power/status of departments, figuring out if his fax is on the level or just "I'm bored send bus", and doing a bunch of mental checking that no one talks about or wants to hear. From there, I have to formulate a reply that I think is the best I can offer and will be the best for the round. There's no button to press, I have to think shit through and decide.
3. Reply. Send an inspector. Wait, first we have to spawn a human and a set of centcom clothes (remember one 'm' or else nothing but a single chest armor will come up). I could just right click dress up if I had the flags but i don't and the player on the other end doesn't care what flags I have. Pick a name, get everything sorted like hair and IDs with a matching name and so on. Oh and quickly, because this guys already waited 10 minutes for a fax reply and making him wait another 10 minutes for me to leave centcomm isn't acceptable.
4. Go to the station using the Ferry. Everything has to be IC. Roleplaying is optional for Assistant Murdercock MacToolbox. It isn't for an admin making a visit as a centcomm official. Stick to a natural script (go to bridge, talk to heads) and politely ignore a changeling deathstinging the HoS right in front of me and the guy that faxed me. I know he stung him. The other two players should have killed him on the spot. But I can't, and I can't even say anything. I'm an admin, not a player. It's not my beef.

4. (Continued). Take the HoS who is now fucked to medbay, give a parting word to the person that faxed me, and press the ERT button before my character is even back to the Ferry so we can get the ball rolling. Plus telling people how to become an ERT repeatedly so we get the most possible players involved.
5. Go back to Centcomm, again IC via the Ferry no shortcuts. ERT is already joined up. Hassle the dead to join up again and get another player to participate. Wait 60 seconds for them to get comfy, come back in, brief them as briefly as possible since we're now 20 minutes past the point where something was fucked up enough for a person to fax for ERT. Send them off after shooing them out of the ready room like a mother bird flinging its babies out of the nest before they can fly.
6. Make any number of announcements during all this so the crew has a fair shake of whats happening and antags aren't surprise raped by 6 guys with big nuclear guns.

I've only done it once and basically the answer is no until I have the flag that lets me skip the dressing up part and just pick a premade selection of items.

For me to send a deathsquad (assuming I'm up to the task of wading through the bullshit for you) the station would need to be

Completely or at least practically in control of antagonists*.
Someone has contacted Centcomm and informed them of this.
An Official (me) has come to the station and witnessed this and reported back to (me) or was killed.
An ERT is either not viable or has already been sent and killed.

*Celt is a pretty special dude when he plays captain and can get a deathsquad called on his ass for rebellion without killing people or removing them from the round as a non antag. His finesse and ability to create fun, interesting rounds really helped him become an admin with huge support. It's not impossible for deafsquid to be called because of non antags but it is rare. And all of this is just how I personally handle it and it varies between all 20 admins.

The main point I want people to read here is when you pray for anything complicated or send a fax or message it takes a whole lot less effort than what it will take an admin to respond in kind with.

And at least one person wants the admins to get involved with some hot bus action every single round. Day in and day out.

as someone who is on the other side of the faxes, hearing 1-3 sentences makes me cringe, I always make sure to make them a reasonable length, and provide a moderate amount of detail on the situation at hand.


I also generally fuck around with the formatting somewhat, and make the text look like it has a letterhead and is in some kind of bureaucratic format, ensuring the language is highly formalized and correct.
I would not blame you for completely ignoring a fax that runs along the lines of

Dear centcom, please send ERT as soon as possible.
the bridge is taken over my cultists.
send help.

fuck that fax, no effort no response.
I generally try and make it something more like....

What you did is part of the round. It's the game that everyone has spent so many years to make for you. It sounds like you had a pretty good round. If I had been there I probably would have busted my balls to respond in character and play with you.

Bay has a terrific wiki page on paperwork and I know one player who follows it. It almost always gets an immediate response because he put work into his report, even if it's just that. A report.

If you put work into something, admins are more likely to put in the work I've described back for you. If you pray "Gib antag", admins are more likely to honor your wishes and gib you.

There's something I really need to emphasize though. What admins do isn't immediately obvious unless you sift through the admin log and cut out all the warnings about firelocks being opened.

Every admin I've ever encountered, from Thingulous to nuklear to pomf, has at some point bussed the round and interacted with players. They all care.

Before I became an admin one of my personal complaints about the server was things sometimes aren't transparent. You'll ahelp about a guy and won't find out if anything's done until the banpage updates. Shit happens, not really a ton of explanation on what.

I wanted to improve that and decided to post in the thread with a name, accepting the amount of flak I would rightfully draw for it.

That has resulted in three things.

If I'm right and being a decent guy then people like me more and say probe for headmin.

If I'm wrong, people sure as fuck remember it because I've put my name on it and made everyone look dumb because they picked me to be part of the staff.

And finally pertaining to your post, it looks like I do things that others don't when all that's happening is I'm saying the things others don't.

Rei gets a ton of shit in the thread because he's not very vocal about what he does and often only brings bants in the thread when sarca is posting. That does not mean he doesn't put a shitton of work into bus and administrative work.

My main issue with taxi is that anyone can be an ass and disable the taxis in many different ways without much effort. As well as some oddities like the distance between cloning and cryo being a tad long.

But that's just mostly an issue with the station's gimmick.

I don't need precise shit. Two days ago someone ahelped complaining about the bar door on deff. The windoor was flush with the inside of the bar (north side of tile) instead of the outer bar counter, giving the bartenders area one extra usable tile.

I didn't need him to tell me the windoor is dir 1 and should be dir 2. I can dig that shit up myself. I just need him to tell me the door aint right.

And this is why I don't really complain too much. Because the answer to those questions is not something that I can answer easily most of the time.

As for ways to fix some stuff around taxi, the door to the break room has some weird access that paramedics can't open for some reason. Cryo and the morgue are a bit out of the way from cloning. I think those three should be kept fairly close togheter.

As for how to fix it, beats me.

A few little details on Box that I've come across:

RnD starts with a beaker of sulphuric acid, Robotics starts with an empty beaker. Bartender needs more table space behind the bar that customers can't reach besides a single tile that comes cluttered full of garbage nobody ever uses as bartender, like wrapping paper and the tile painter. And a superfluous headset identical to the one the bartender spawns with. Also, consider replacing the booze vending machine with a booze DISPENSER? It would make SO much more sense.

I think one of the most common complaints with Taxi is that rooms are just too small. This really stands out with the kitchen, botany, xenobiology, IAA office, and genetics. There's also a lack of maintenance. I think the only reasonable way to solve these problems is with a fourth station.
