I did try that once. On another attempt where I was the prisoner AGAIN the heli pilot managed to wipe out most of the guards and it was pretty helpful, until he blew up the armored van we were supposed to get in right in front of us. Well you get content specifically for returning players (Just google it), you also get the Special Edition content from it's initial release on old-gen (Google that as well).
Gameplay otherwise is a far better experience compared to beta-gen ,the lowrider update, a couple of skins as well. R* has stopped updating for dino-gen so expect some new content that doesn't hold back new gen/PC.

Even the best RP server I've been on in SAMP didn't hold a candle to GTAO. And GTAO was and still is a *heavily* flawed game.

Apparently the "Picked up money" thing is something new that R* is now cracking down on with their selling money and all these big pricetag items. Before, the picked up money stat didn't even change when you got hackerbux. They also had made a statement about the only thing them ever doing with hackerbux is removing the money, but they even said they wouldn't do anything if the money was spent, because they can't determine if you spent legit or hackerbux. This was actually reasonable, because while most of us abuse it, I have actually had money rained on me while afk/in a store, and it would suck to get banned for that.

But people claimed to get banned when low riders dropped and they couldn't think of any reason other than getting hackerbux. This coincided with the "picked up" stat actually functioning with hackerbux (It didn't before).
Hopefully it isn't true, if it wasn't for the picked up stat I would say it wasn't because it is in direct contradiction with the statements they made regarding hackerbux and punishment. There's a trick to it, you have to stay a good ways outside the prison and use the lock-on missiles which helpfully lock onto the guards for some strange reason. The prison SAM's only fire if you're directly above it, or really close to the wire. Never actually seen where the missile comes from myself though.
