Pluto a qt Edition
NOTE: The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you should torrent the game rather than purchasing it. The developer Squad is incompetent, extremely mismanaged, and is very resistant to all feedback or criticism. Furthermore, despite being poorly made, lacking a proper development team, years of unfixed bugs, and being in need of a serious physics and optimization overhaul, Squad has gone ahead and decided that they're just adding several new features, and have jumped straight to version 1.0 without proper balancing and bugfixing just to boost sales. With their performance to date, it's clear they do not deserve your shekels. If and when Squad begins developing KSP like the competent adults they like to play at being and stops acting abusively and manipulatively towards their community, we'll remove the above disclaimer. Until then, we as a community have decided it stays.
Understand that we here at /kspg/ don't hate KSP. We've simply grown bitter over the way Squad has dragged such a promising title into the mud, and hope that our input might help to keep this sinking ship afloat a bit longer. However, we cannot in good conscience recommend buying this game to anyone.

>first week of testing has gone smoothly
>1.1 devs have switched to working on 1.0.5 to round out the bug fixing
some bugs:
>hit build 1000 which broke the store
>underwater fog persisted on map view
>Whack-A-Kerbal dialog stuck on Space Center
>Ted picked up the games most recent award
>Porkjet has been doing lots of polishing
>added an internal turbine to jet engines, see gif
http://i.imgur.com/JXBbVK6.gif
>parts work just the same, just have an extra bit of model (which explains the offset CoM they all have)
>Roverdude has added the small radial ore tank and smaller drill teased last week
>they have drawbacks to being used, just like the small ISRU
>Arsonide has worked on career compatibility for older save
>Also introduced a new part test contract where you just have to fly the part somewhere, not actually test it
>Our lord and savior NathanKell has fixed more bugs
>Some UI shit
>Decouplers (or any staging part) can now be toggled to not actually stage
>Parachutes don't flutter identically
>Both genders of Kerbals now ragdoll the same
>Also the underwater fog
http://i.imgur.com/ST23LPS.png
>Also smoothed out problems with the new Core Heat stuff

In the rapidly growing, expanding, connecting world of the 21st century, morals become skewed, perspectives change opinions, and as we depart from our simple mindsets, we often find ourselves overcome by the understanding that our actions, beliefs, words and plans will have countless unforeseen consequences in the ether of the future.
Within this context we have become the literal gods of a previous world — we have powers and abilities and understanding of deep context that give us unbridled license to make, shift, mashup, create and innovate within this context. Those who grasp that strength create wholly new, dynamic, justified experiences that exemplify not only the pinnacle of human creation, but a deep caring for the general direction of the world.
And then there’s Maxmaps. It’s so rare that within this hypercomplex world, we could be awarded with such a pristine distillation of the base human emotions that disrupt our inner human desire for excellence, yet here we are, looking at him, as if he were an item of evidence in a massive class-action fraud lawsuit.
Borne out of the armpit of the world, left to rot in dingy Mexican streets and in front of a video game console, one Mexican boy emerged from the pit of hepatitis and broken dreams partially cohosting a World of Warcraft radio show where he served as the quintessential illiterate Mexican comic relief that contrasted against the real hosts and made their conversation seem meaningful.
From this festering pit of incompetence and mediocrity came someone who unabashedly believed fascism was the only way to effectively control a populace and believed that he had within him the passion and intelligence to become the next Notch.
After a few years of obscurity “working in pharma” in Mexico, Max found himself at Squad, insulting their most recent project, a promotion of the new “Leaf” car while being onboarded for his new role: managing the community of Kerbal Space Program.
(1/3)
>>121182532
Shut the fuck up.
>>121182532
It was around this time that resourcegate occurred, signifying KSP’s ultimate shift into a dev cycle measured in years rather than weeks, and the .23 roadmap was thrown out to accommodate a one-off deal with NASA that had lasting implications on releases up to and past .25.
Also during Max’s beginning with KSP, we saw the focus move away from Sandbox and to a “career” mode, even though the game was still very much in Alpha and starting career so early only served to petrify the development in the same state of half-bakededness we still have the pleasure of experiencing to this day.
Just as Max entered the frame, many of the original American and international devs left, and they were replaced by Mexicans, as if this were logical. Since Max’s introduction to the Kerbal Space Program team, we have seen numerous meaningless PR deals that have served as one-off announcements designed to distract the fanbase from asking meaningful questions about the development of KSP. Likewise, we have also seen a rise in the harmful moderation that has led to the self-censoring community of KSP fans today who have been trained to simply drop all expectations from Squad, “because they’re an indie dev.”
Keep in mind that the delaying of development in line with developing career has mirrored another disturbing trend: putting less than 5% of all “profits” from early access back into development. This has been status quo for years, and has allowed Squad to maintain a fraud and scam, promising a game in development, while keeping the majority of the profits in an offshore bank account, while scrubbing profits from the online repositories designed to keep Steam companies honest.
“You give me too much credit,” Maxmaps will likely magically pop up and say — but no, to get that from this is a fundamental misreading. The point of asking these questions and making these connections is not to prove that MAXMAPS ADDS NOTHING —
(2/3)
>>121182496
Li? Is it you?
>>121182692
Okay Max
>>121182805
One of, not the.
the truth of it is that Maxmaps has inherently and irreperably damaged the development of KSP, leading up to the sad truth of the matter: “Maxmaps killed KSP”
Maxmaps adds nothing is a constant reminder to the wider community to ask what is _really_ happening whenever Max announces a new secret feature or new meetings in progress — he is taking up valuable resources developing in-game “purchase” buttons for 3D models and brokering wider chasms between KSPedu and stock KSP. He is inserting pain points and creating dividers, and for this, we must all ask for our refunds, or we must take them, by whatever means necessary.
Before I close out my blog, let me quickly note some of the deals Max has brokered for KSP: NASAupdate, Soccer balls, Plushies, Gamer’s edition, Wii, Xbone, PS4 (Flying Tiger), printable ships, Curse, 1.0, and many others. Please feel free to add any that come to mind.
What can you do to fight the base human wrongness and perversion that is Maxmaps? Well, there are many ways to join the fight, but might I recommend BURNING SQUADCAST?

To be clear, I'm talking about the difference between >>121203726 and >>121204376. Closest you can get with an SLR is about 20cm because they have big sensors. In order to be "close" they go farther with less angle of view. See this pic, the lens I took this photo with can't focus closer than 1.5 meters and yet it looks close. In order to get close and still have wide angle of view, you need to have less focal length. You're now looking at expensive fisheye lenses which will scare off the birds or smartphones.
>>121205901
You have the lens, it says how close you can get. Either your lens is broken or you have some other equipment. Also that lens is sexy as fuck, cheap, fast and 28mm. I might even buy it. Thanks.

Bullshit. I just went to my cat, and shot this picture from around 10-15cm away with the lens I just mentioned attached to a normal SLR, and did so with zoom to spare. You literally don't know what you're talking about.

[title card: OPERATION CROSSROADS]
[Cameras mounted on moving ships record an esquisite arrangement of a varying number of ships to the tune of a flambouyant soundtrack]
Narrator: Eleven months after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Operation Crossroads was conducted at Bikini Atoll, twenty-five hundred miles west of Hawaii. The purpose of Crossroads was to test the effects of atomic weapons using two devices--similar in design to Trinity and Nagasaki--codenamed Able and Baker. Shot Able was to be dropped from a B-29, while Shot Baker would be detonated 90 feet below the surface of the water.
[The camera shows the view from a plane of a large arrangement of ships on the ocean]
Narrator: The target armada consisted of 185 Japanese, German, and American ships, ranging to small amphibious craft, to battleships, and aircraft carriers.
[Cut to a man in a suit]
Man: The bomb will not start a chain reaction in the water, converting it all to gas, and letting all the ships on all the oceans drop down to the bottom. It will not blow out the bottom of the sea and let all the water go down the hole. It will not destroy gravity. I am not an atomic playboy. As one of my critics labeled me, exploding these bombs to satisfy my personal whim.
[Cut to men on a ship loading cages and crates full of small animals on various platforms to the sound of ominous music]
Narrator: Animals, plant life, even biological warfare agents were assembled to study the effects of heat, blast, and radiation.
[The men are now shown forcefully handling sheep, shaving parts of them, then shoving them in metal restraints]
[Cut to a shot of several B-29s assembled at an airfield and a man removing blocks from the nose wheel of one of them. The music changes tone and becomes dramatic]
[The camera shows the bomb bay doors close and shows the pilot giving a thumbs up to the ground crew. The pilot observes as he starts up one of his engines.]
[Cut to a shot of the B-29 taking off from a runway, with other planes and buildings visible in the background.]
[The plane is shown in flight, with the target armada under it, unaware of what's about to fucking destroy it]
[It shows the pilot in the cockpit--a particularly handsome man with a neutral expression--and the plane's bomb bay doors opening]
[The crew are kept on camera, calm and on task, operating various instruments in preparation for the drop]
[The bomb is dropped and the bomb bay doors are closed as the plane flies away]
[The bomb is shown dropping to the water, then detonating, creating a massive fireball and condensation cloud surrounding it]
[The fireball rises, and below it puffs of smoke rise from the ships as they are demolished]
[The camera cuts to the shockwave approaching one of the ships and hitting the animals in their cages]
[The camera then goes to a long distance view of the fireball appearing, then the shockwave spreading out and creating massive clouds]
[Cut to a later shot of the resulting cloud from the viewpoint of a small vessel]
Narrator: The bomb missed its intended target by nearly 800 yards. The blast sent 5 ships--including 2 destroyers--to the bottom of Bikini lagoon. All ships within half a mile of the blast were heavily damaged. But damage was nowhere near by that created by the following, underwater blast known as Shot Baker.

21:47 Liftoff confirmed, standing by for status
The Super Strypi launch vehicle has lifted off from the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii on an experimental test flight of a new military lightweight satellite booster. The first moments of the flight appeared to go well, but an animation of the launch vehicle derived from telemetry appeared to show it tumbling shortly after liftoff.
We are standing by for an update on the status of the launch from mission managers.

Well Hawaii has never seen rockets so what do they know?
>It went up and disappeared
>Must be in space now!
Why do I love ULA so much? It's pretty simple when I think about it. ULA isn't just the best launch provider in the country; they might just be the greatest launch provider of all time. Just imaging the Altas V riding through the skies of Earth, the wind on its fairing, the mighty RD-180 below it. As she rides through the red sky, NASA swoons at her very scent. They know how she smells; the essence of burning RP-1 smell is sold in Orlando under the name of "Space Orgasm." The very nature of ULA is mystery. Could they be playing a deeper game than even Tory Bruno realizes? The answer is yes, ULA has transcended such boundaries as the physical world, and has free will to do whatever they sees fit. However, ULA is filled with such guile, such arcane craft that they does not even use these powers. Why, you might ask? You will never know, for the mind of the ULA is not one that is easily penetrated. ULA rockets are such a force of nature in this realm that nothing can truly touch them, the only thing keeping them bound to this world at all is their will to exist within the preordained boundaries understood physics. ULA is not only beyond the comprehension of us, it exists within a plane of true focus and beauty. Observe the plume of exhaust gasses from this Delta IV, the gorgeous and rippling flames, the gallant fairing, and most importantly, its engines. Her engines, like cauldrons straight from hell, provide the only glimpse into the true machinations of ULA. Do not stare into them. Many good men have gone mad in the attempt. ULA is not just a launch provider, a formless collection of engineers and rockets; they are themselves the binding that holds the word together. Without ULA, Musk the Menace takes over and the entire space industry as we know it crumbles. The Mississippi would stop flowing without ULA, Kessler syndrome would take over in orbit, and the space station would fall without their fiery gaze. These are just of a few of the reasons why I like ULA so much.
At this point if ULA fails, it's a sign we need to stay the fuck out of space

>>121227813
Not really wrong. .999... does equal 1. I think the reason this confuses most people is because they try to end that decimal at an arbitrarily point. The thing is the series of 9s never end, which makes it equal to 1. If you cant grasp that concept, then there are mathematical proofs that tell you that it equals 1, and you have to except them because the logic is sound.
>>121232664
>muh proofs
and all of them are equally shaky
the problem is that infinity doesn't exist in reality, an infinite sequence is just one without end, the difference will approach zero more closely but there is no such thing as reaching zero just as there is no such thing as reaching infinity

>infinity doesn't exist in reality
>what is time
>what is black holes
>what ismemes
>>121232956
Yep, infinity is an abstraction, but so are all mathematical constructions. It is just easier for us to think about things as real numbers. I wouldn't say the proofs are shaky, though. If you say the proofs don't work then you are basically axioms of mathematics don't work. The easiest proof is this:
.999... = x
10*.999... = 10*x
9.999... = 10x
9.999... - .999... = 10x - .999
9 = 10x - x
9 = 9x
1 = x
We are adding anything extra, just using the rules set by algebra. If you think this proof is wrong, then you must prove what axiom in algebra is wrong.
>>121233502
>9.999... - .999... = 10x - .999

>>121233502
>>121234598
no, sorry, misread that
9.999 - 0.999 is of course 9 hurp
the real line that fucks up is
>9 = 9x
you just said
>0.999 * 9 = 9
which is the same as saying 0.999 * 10 = 10
so you basically just declared that 0.999 is equal to one, that "proof" would work for any decimal
>>121234810
Nigger, I had that explanation on one of my very first algebra classes. If it doesn't make sense to you, it's you that's the problem.
>>121235013
well 9 times 9 is 81, so 9 times 0.9 is 8.1 and 0.999 times 9 is 8.1 + 0.81 + 0.081 which is 8.991
if you extend that to infinity you get 8.999 recurring, not 9
>>121235332
Okay, then;
x = 8.999 - 8
The point is not the number to the left of the point, but the ones on the right. I thought that was clear. I thought the point of all this is that a recurring .9999 does in fact not exist.
Are we even on the same page now?

So it turns out the entire plot of the first Star Wars trilogy can be redeemed by making Jar Jar a sith lord (i.e. The Phantom Menace) and there is literally hundreds of items of evidence that unify things that made no god damn sense when watching without that context.

basically jar jar is a funny side character (the fool, drawing from mythical archetypes) some people didn't like, so they blame all the faults of the films on him
the real problems is bad writing (episode 2 went to production on a draft, penned by only lucas) bad acting, continuity issues with the originals, and just shoddy lazy filmmaking all around, I'm sure you've seen the big empty greenscreen rooms they use, that's the effort put into it
making some side character secretly evil doesn't solve any of those issues

Why did people hate Jar Jar anyway? The original Star Wars films were released before I was born and I was young when Phantom Menace came out. When I went to see it thought it was an okay film and I had no adverse reaction to Jar Jar Binks whatsoever. I only found out that he was reviled years later because people on the internet loved to hate him. Is his hatred a meme?

>>121248113
depending on who you ask, Jar jar's character is either annoying comic relief or the unifying factor of the series.
There's actually a parallel between Jar Jar and KSP -- people reacted so negatively that Lucas changed the writing to edit Jar Jar out to appease the fans rather than bear some criticism and actually make a good arc

I like doing liquid fuel only SSTOs. Just put jet engines and a nuke on it. For me it works much easier that way.

Help me edit my leddit post, /kspg/
TITLE: A completely unverifiable rumor a little bird told me
BODY: Maxmaps will be quitting very soon. He didn't see the growth he'd been asked to generate and ultimately his post 1.0 plans lacked the oomph necessary to deliver the content and updates in an efficient and timely manner. (I.e. the 1.1 / 1.0.5. debacle)
Personally, I'm very excited to see a return to a development-focused KSP rather than one centered on biz dev plushie deals and rampant system stratification.
The KSP team is great but with exploding buildings and female kerbals being prioritized, we've had a long two years of "tweaks" and "small features" -- it'll be good to get back on track.
The heart of the matter is that Maxmaps didn't really contribute a ton of useful expertise or knowledge to the development of KSP, but we are lucky enough to have gotten his personal avatar in the game in the form of the dude in the Admin building, so in a way, he will always be with us, even if he is quitting in the next few weeks, leaving Badie as our only on-staff CM.

Why the fuck are my rockets going bottoms up?
I swear this has never happened before but now all of a sudden, whenever I fly a rocket and I change out of my initial stage my rocket flips around and becomes unmanouverable

ERECT BARRICADE
>>121357936
I just visited /pol/ for the first time in years and it's even shittier than I remember.
>>121357721
I'm in a good mood, so I'm going to be slightly less condescending than I normally am.
If a rocket flips, it is because there is a problem making it not rocket correctly. You want to start with the most low impact tweaks and work your way up from there.
So first, check the COM and COL, is the blue dot behind the yellow one, but not at the very, very bottom of the ship? Good, that means you have good control authority. If not, place three or four fins near the bottom. of the craft. Keep in mind that your COM will shift downwards as you burn fuel.
If, after doing that, you're still flipping, you'll want to add the second least resource intensive fix, which is SAS wheels. These create torque, but consume electricity and at high G will not stop your rocket from flipping. Don't be afraid to use more than one module if necessary. (But have a solution to replace the consumed power)
Third, you can use vernier or RCS, but this is not very efficient in-atmo. It's great when you just need a little "oomph" to punch you in the right direction though, as long as fuel isn't a great concern.
At this point, you'll want to look at your aero readout if you're still having trouble (option-F12 for me) and see what's causing the strange perturbations in your path. Consider a deeper gravity turn so that you're not putting a lot of lateral pressure on the rocket during Max-Q or whatever it's called.
Also, post a picture of your goddamn rocket jfc
>>121358337
Alright, thanks
pic related is my rocket
Has velocity got anything to do with it?
Also, I think my gravity turn is not very efficient, I start turning at ~15km. Anything below that, my rocket usually flips
When I build my rockets I usually do an asparagus design and once I burn through a set of tanks is when I flip
Also, this has never happened before, I've started playing again yesterday after a long time
>>121358823
Put fins on that damn thin, borother.
>>121358823
I forgot to mention thrust vectoring engines. Those engines on the outside aren't. I bet if you replaced them with the type on the inside, you'd see your problems get fixed
>>121359170
only some engines have thrust vectoring? damn, alright I didn't know that
>>121359076
I do have fins, they are on the main rocket and I saw that it put the COL up so I didn't bother putting them on the outside
>>121359271
read the engine menu (possibly have to right click) to see engine traits like thrust vectoring
and fins near the engines on the outside would be good. Your blue dot could be a little lower and it'd be fine
>>121359442
yeah, I knew about the menu
So, what's the deal with landing on a planet and still having enough fuel to go back?
I can fly to the mun by eye and guesswork and I can even land, but I usually burn through most of my fuel while decelerating on my way down.
Do yo uuse 2 stages for landing and for leaving?

>WHEN: Max's final squadcast

>>121359806
Make a stable orbit at 70km over kerbin, then use maneuver nodes to plan your trip to the mun. You can even use maneuver nodes to calculate Suicide burns (burning at the last second for landing) and they will show you your delta-v, so you'll know how much fuel you're using.
It's just about planning. Do you have enough fuel to make it to low mun orbit? Then bring some along and leave it there and rendezvous with it for the return trip (you can also leave parachutes, heatshields, etc on the orbiter to save fuel when landing on the mun)
Alternatively, bring a mining rig along (note: you'll need an orbital scanning satellite)
Finally, make sure you're using a big engine to get into orbit, then dumping it for your orbital maneuvers. You only need a TWR of more than 1 on the mun for this trip, so you can use really any engine. I'd suggest the .625 poodle, whatever the fuck that's called.
I have to go to work now, I can answer more questions later.
Also based on your craft above, you should have enough fuel to land and return. Look into asparagus staging.
>>121359958
Max said something about
>if I ever quit
in his last stream and now Anon is trying to make us believe he'll be gone soon.
This is exactly why most game devs don't post anything on the forums. Because when they say something vague rumors spread and misunderstandings happen.
>>121360450
Max, maybe you could try being more specific instead?Fuck those people for trying to figure things out. when they have been provided with no information whatsoeverIt became pretty obvious to me when you stated that "we will handle" six systems with different UIs and will administer MP forever. You set up the deals you wanted to set up to make yourself look good, and now you're gonna drop the ball, shrug, and walk away, and possibly take the credit for keeping the ship together when they can't possibly maintain all that and continue developing.
You should make the announcement today, I'll be posting to the subreddit this evening.
>>121360636
