Your character can if he or she goes fully hollow. Going hollow involves completely giving up, so your character goes hollow when you give up and don't finish a playthrough.

This, a thousand times this. If you examine an item and you don't have enough room to carry it it will drop on the ground and thus disappear when the area is reloaded. Drop off everything you won't need with Thomas after every level, and if you forget just give up on the level you're on and turn back to do it. For the respawning stuff, I don't think it's ever explained. I always thought of it as being the weird way that time flows in the games. Ya know how the game has said that the signs and messages are from other timelines of chosen undead that have "come close and intersected" with yours or some shit? I always figured that sitting at a bonfire or dying would reset or alter your timeline somehow. Thus why NPCs would stay where they are until you leave the zone (they left of their own accord since they had time) or you sit at a bonfire (your timeline gets altered somehow and they leave because lultimetravel)

Aldia doesn't have any interesting lore. It's just a dumb boss From decided to put in the game so people wouldn't complain about lack of content in the new version. For all intents, Nashandra still is the bigger bad of the game and the best villain in the series.

Aldia is Vendrick's brother. He was doing mad science. Probably helping Vendrick with his whole "peering into the essence of the soul" thing. At some point they had a disagreement and Aldia was exiled to his mansion to keep doing mad science. At some point he was fucking around with the corpses of giants and dragons and somehow infused a dragon with a giant's soul, creating some awful demigod which became a central figure in the dragon cult. Maybe this was his way of trying to attain the Giant's Kinship? He also brought dragons back from extinction like John Hammond. Up until SOTFS, a lot of people thought Aldia IS the Ancient Dragon, that fusing his own soul with a giant's soul and shoving it in a dead dragon was his way of achieving immortality, but SOTFS rules that out because he shows up and talks to you as a weird treeman thing. Now he's all about trying to break the cycle of ages of fire/darkness. If you follow his advice and leave the Throne of Want after defeating Nashandra, something happens, maybe.

Emerald Herald is a huge fucking mystery. If you wangle the camera behind her hair you can see she has a glowing purple magic eye. I think she was artificially created Aldia to be some sort of half-dragon hybrid. If you consider the intro movie to be canon, she might be the younger version of the old hag that sends you to Drangleic in the first place. Or maybe she's another Child of Dark (along with Nashandra, Elana, Alsanna and Nadalia) and spends the whole game tricking you into collecting shitloads of souls because she's trying to recreate the Dark Soul. I don't know.

It was fine until PtDE came out.

The original is utterly dead. Sofs is still pretty active but not exceptionally so. Last time I was on in sofs I couldn't get invaders off my dick, and I was just cycling through characters to check what SM they were.

If you owned the original, upgrading to sofs is slightly discounted. In the end, you pay about as much as the dlc pack would cost but get the sofs changes too. The DLCs are worthwhile if you enjoyed DaS2. They're a unilateral improvement over the base game with much better overall level design and great bosses.

Bear in mind that saves don't transfer over, so if you buy sofs you'll have to actually play through the game again to access each of the dlc areas. The actual sofs changes are nice but fairly minor on their own and don't really make a playthrough feel fresh if you're already bored of the base game.

We already have confirmed that there are ice-based enemies, ice-based bosses, ice-based lore, an ice-based area that's a major part of the world and an ice-based status effect applied both from ice-based weapons and ice-based ranged attacks.

Ice magic is a shoe-in at this point. And seeing as how they're playing up the whole fire/ice duality, you can bet cryomancy will be a thing.

Playing Dark Souls on the PC with a PS3 gamepad, but the cable broke and I got a new one. Thing is, it's not working anymore. Nothing's picking up on Better DS3 and the device isn't registering at all.

I switched from an Energizer charging cable (which worked, for some reason) to an Insignia brand one. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and how a different brand of charging cable could cause it to fail.

Hex scales with dark, which itself scales off of either int or faith, whichever is lower level.

For scaling purposes, level int and faith together. It scales from the lower between the 2.

For spell requirements; high int gets some utility spells like twisted barricade and also gets dark greatsword, while high faith gets a tonne of neat toys like profound still, promised walk of peace, and climax.

You can do the DLCs in any order.
In terms of difficulty: Iron > Ivory > Sunken
In terms of length: Ivory > Iron > Sunken.
Sunken is more or less a puzzle and exploration sort of level. Very zelda-ish. Bring a bow and lots of arrows. Iron is a series of encounters with strong enemies, status effects and monster buffs in tight, small spaces and Ivory is a lengthy, resource-taxing gauntlet

Good idea. going to use a dark claymore. Finally spent some points into vit, I'll wear some shit with actual poise.

I'll start with some background. I first got this game in the winter of 2010, based on curiosity. I remember how overwhelming it was, making my way through my first souls game. 1-1 went reasonably well, but then I got to 1-2. I can't even count how many deaths I had on the way to the boss fog-scorched by the dragon, mangled by the dogs in the underpassage, torn open by the blue eyed knights and their companions. I eventually reached the boss door, and my jaw dropped. How could I beat this guy, he's huge! I struggled here-dying over and over again to him, or on the way to him. I was about ready to give up.

Then, on one of my runbacks, I happened to see a blue sign on the ground. In comes this nearly naked dude with a massive sword. I'm thinking-oh great, this guy is surely trolling, but we'll give the boss a shot anyway. So we go in, and he takes off, right at the tower knight! And he knocked him down and out in a hurry. I had played pretty cautiously up to this point, timidly against bosses. Seeing him play and taking out that boss was the moment I became determined to beat the game. And a couple months after dark souls came out, I had succeeded.

So I return to the nexus this week. I haven't played a ton yet, just through a couple levels. But it's crazy how many summon signs I've seen, with the game being out six years now. Maybe this time I'll be able to help out a new player with the tower knight :)

This is the consequence of trying to have honorable duels. And if you're wanting to roleplay that you just need to accept it. Rather than invading you are allowing yourself to be summoned, which means opening yourself up to possible unfair treatment in exchange for offering your opponent fair treatment. You'll get a lot of complaints about "honorfags" around here, but ultimately the issue isn't people wanting to play that way... it's that people want to play that way and expect others to conform to their self-imposed rules.

Observations of some mechanical issues I noticed during the DaS3 network test. I'm gonna jot them down here because, despite being an obvious alpha build, from is notorious for not fixing blatant problems and not learning from past mistakes

>Parries timing is extremely forgiving; DaS2 buckler parry but easier. Parrying UGS and spear R1s on reaction is trivial.
>axe moveset's tracking and hitbox is completely broken. Often just phases through your target, hitbox extends behind you for some reason.
>Kick is not an instant guardbreak. It works just like the DaS1 kick except it's slower and takes slightly more stamina to guard.If they don't rebalance the amount of stamina it eats, it'll become completely trivial once people can END gouge.
>most weaponarts, R2s and jumping attacks that were in the net test could be rollstabbed, as well as some running attacks.
>guardstun is nearly nonexistant, most slow attacks can easily be punished on guard
