So I am currently playing and enjoying Perisno but holy shit, it is WAY to easy to make money and prisoners are especially extremely profitable. After many hours in POP, Perisno is more enjoyable yet far easier.

Whether I have a shield depends on the quality of armor.
If we mean gameplay I sometimes do both... I mix up my loadout a lot but the most common ones are:
1H - Small Shield - Tower Shield - Polearm
Bow - Arrow - Arrow - Polearm
Throwing weapons are almost always great on troops. Especially shield troops. If a game allows a player faction my infantry WILL have the throwing weapons available. Morgh's assures that.
Bow + Arrow + Arrow + Polearm can be fun on elite archer troops as well -- They can frequently slaughter flanking cavalry without aid.

Seems they moved the chests around in Uxhal's Ruins in Nova Aetas 3.0... I only found one, and I keep seeing things that remind me of the 'loot mounds' scattered about, but none of them seem to be interactable.

Infinite mana bug is really common, but it's good that it is, as several spells have a pretty high chance to do nothing and just go through people/spend mana with no effect.

Nah m8. Merc -> King it is for me. Endless wars, fastest RTR gains, and it allows me to fight every faction as every faction. If the mod is well made learning about faction armies is half the fun. Being a Mercenary allows me to keep every faction alive and equally weak for when I do declare my faction.
If I need to I can always become a vassal far later on just to load up a garrison before rebelling -- Haven't needed to do that in any mods though. Its also demeaning for the future god emperor of Calradia.
In theory excessively low RTR will also put you in a perpetual state of war.
I think this amount of RTR is abysmally low though. Problem on my end is that I basically fluctate from 0 RTR (quick cheat testing) and 99 RTR (true games and a mere byproduct of my merc play. Would be higher but caps)
This arbitrarily low RTR cut off is reinforced by players whom desperately hunt for RTR by sending companions as envoys (yuck) and getting married. If you are a Merc constantly fighting for weak factions you will be drowning in RTR.
None of the counts or kings in Swadia are in their castles and whenever I visit there's just some woman telling me they're "out in the field" and apparently they're always fucking out. I went to the Vaegirs and found a king that gave me some tasks/quests, but I don't really know how to progress from here. I already did everything for the first merchant I met in Praven, I'm kind of just wandering around and attacking villagers and demanding supplies from small towns in other kingdoms for money.
I was told by someone that I should attack Bandits to earn money and levels but I can't find any and most Bandits are too tough for my army. What should I do from here?

Having a small elite archer group is brilliant in defensive sieges. Always nice to have a healthy stock of Power Draw 10 Companions on hand.
Even on high prof companions bombs are unreliably inaccurate. But then you get gems like this in the combat log...

Guns really seem to be shit in that mod.
Arami Humba penetrate armor just as regularly, and the superior rate of fire, accuracy, and comparable damage of certain archers just shits all over them.

Most mods with muskets + archers tend to have archers be superior at high proficiency. Same applies to Gekokujo for example. Considering that you have to actively invest in power draw to make this happen I don't see this as a flaw. The opposite is generally a bigger problem, as guns in such mods tend to be stupidly strong (like 1860 mod) or bows illogically weak.
The game tends to force musket use for top tier ranged otherwise -- Even if they have bows. For example the Shah top tier archer unit has great power draw and msikets + bows. In-game though it seemed like 90% of my ranged troops used muskets.
Its possible that they may have spawned both but the retarded AI prioritized the higher base damage without considering their great power draw skill.
The only reliable top tier (faction) archer are the Lana Horse Archers. And while these guys ARE pretty ridiculous they are also made of paper and tend to become very retarded when doing anything else but holding position. In longer/larger battles their ammo is going to be brought to zero pretty quickly too.
Crossbow troops are great. Especially the tier 2 Portugese Crossbowmen. Lower damage does become notable when you are facing top tier European troops though. I've lossed ranged exchanges between Spanish Conquistadors and Portugese Crossbowmen and the only logical explanation I have is armor.

They are much better than I anticipated. As in giving an immediate charge order rekts castle defenders. I can likely just field a full army of these guys and always come out on top thanks to the AI.
The arbalests are better, honestly, until the enemy gets uncomfortably close.
The Portuguese ranged units also have the annoying problem that any given soldier may decide to wear either a genuine helmet, or a fancy hat, which if the probabilities pan out in favor of fancy hats, can lead to hilarious casualty counts should your units come under fire.
If you want to make faction troops available ASAP you can just conquer a town, declare player culture, then proceed to allow your faction to become defeated. From that point on you should be given the option to recruit player faction troops from any village.
Even then though its just declaring a player faction. Due to Native size garrisons its not particularly tough to start your own kingdom in Suvarnabhumi Mahayuth.
Portuguese units also tend to ignore all melee weapons but their damnable Rapier. For this reason I tend to ignore their melee above Pikemen.
Makes them very easy to kill in sieges too.
The Portugese and Player Faction troops do have top tier armor that is otherwise unavailable to the player in markets though. Need to start farming them...
It'd help if the Portuguese had any infantry that used a shield, because it's also Native sized warbands.
Right now, I'm trying to find out what are good foot soldiers to front my ranged units, because most of the castles I've tried to siege are better designed than Native's to repel attackers.

You must not have played Native in a long tie m8. Native always has single entry points. Suvarnabhumi Mahayuth tends to have a minimum of 2 entry points.
If you are getting rekt invading its likey that you just haven't adapted to dealing with cannon troops. (Another thing that Portuguese lack.)
Suspect that mod creator may have made exception for Manipuri due to their faction basically being horse swarms that throw Arambai at you. Haven't tried invading Imphal yet as last game was largely babysitting Mrauk-U (Orange) from Manipur and my present game has me working for Red as they are at war with almost all factions.

I've been having a time of it.
I've been spreading out my hiring practices to try and see what actually works when it comes to knocking over forts, and just using the portuegese for their missile units.
I'd keep the infantry at Pikemen, but seeing the little marker that indicates that the troop can be upgraded makes me itch.

As much as I love Pike swarming... I wouldn't field heavy pikes in a siege. Portuguese top tier have exceptionally good armor at least. The Portugese Conquistadors should be able to; literally, face tank Arambai thanks to their +83 Burgonet helmets.\
In the end Arambai base damage is still 31. At at power throw 10 we are looking at 62 damage a throw. Biggest advantage of Arambai is their ammo -- but defenders have infinite ammo anyways.

And of course, my infantry melt when they mount the ladder anyway. I don't know what it is about the Portuguese that does it, but they do. Or maybe it's the 40 Arambai skrimishers standing 10ft back from the ladder top that throw a volley at every soldier as they come up.
It burns my ass, let me tell you. I've got it, must have been five times, where I had a bevy of marksmen and arbalestiers inside the walls, and lost the siege by single digit counts.
Oh yes, the default M&B castle siege tactic. I never would have considered doing this, nary tried it before.

You can't stop the Tetsubo.
Ladder sieges prep time combined the player combat freezing the universe is an abomination.
Bannerlord either needs to allow map action to periodically update during long combat so that reinforcements can intervene or they need to make ladder siege prep as long as tower siege.
Personally I would love it if they found a work around for the player freezing time in-battle. This is the single most powerful tool the player has over the AI if they know what they are doing.
How do I progress, justk keep recruiting from random villages until I can start taking down settlements?
Keep recruiting and upgrading your men, taking down bandit parties until you're strong enough to defeat lords. Then either join a kingdom or take a town for yourself. If you're going it alone be sure to gain some right to rule by sending out companions and make sure you can defend your new kingdom from the faction's counterattack.

Can you explain? I know you mean that when the player decides to start a battle time freezes, but how to I take advantage of this?
got around to adding flails to my tocan's and decided to make a sort of unique branch for swadia since they generally don't have anything interesting: the swadian flailman
high iron flesh, medium athletics and powerstrike with great armor and helmets, with the devastating flails
drawbacks are that flails are slow and short, and can't be used to parry
AI doesn't attack with flails if they have shields for some strange reason, so they can't have shields
Whittling down enemy forces with ladder sieges partly depends on this -- There are perhaps many minor examples but I can think of one that gives emphasis to them all.
Consider a Marshal vs Marshal battle with multitudes of enemy lords on both sides. And also remember that once an AI is engaged in battle it will not draw proximity based reinforcements. This means that:
1) If you are fast you can 2v1 any lord that initiates combat
2) If both forces smash into each other they will likely splinter into multiple battles. The player can instantly resolve those with highest success of winning, and then tag along with the newly victorious lords in another ongoing battle. Continue doing this until the stack with the largest disadvantage suddenly has EVERY lord in your forces now turning the tide.
The biggest "disadvantage" that players have is in defensive sieges... But thats only in bad play due to locking themselves inside the castle before reinforcements can arrive. If the player "knows" (you never really know due to AI unpredictability...) they can turn the tide of a defensive siege once allied reinforcements arrive they should just wait for reinforcements to arrive or load all of their troops in-garrison while they wait for reinforcements to arrive.
This is why I sometimes have no troops in some of my defensive sieges, like image related. All siege troops are under your command once you engage in battle. There is no reason to lock yourself at a disadvantageous siege battle save sloppy play.
Playing Warwolf now, is the final battle in the main quest where you save your sister from the whorehouse actually winnable? The bandit fucks hit like trucks through my plate armour, and even when I kill them all a new bunch spawns in. I just want to save my sister from dickings.

well i ended up adding it because i could have it and a sling still, which meant more variation really
so there are still slings and slingers but i had to remove the fustibalus in order to incorporate a handgonne and a handcrossbow
one of the main cruxes of the mod was as much variation as possible, and since i could get more interesting stuff (handcrossbow, handgonne, and sling) instead of less (staff sling and sling) i ended up doing it like that
Being able to go on rampages like this is precisely what converted me to melee play.
That and not worrying about Friendly Fire.
Well that and all you really need to do this in *most* mods is 15-18 STR, permitting Warrior play with INT builds. Archery play; especially mounted archery, is still great but I dislike doing this unless I can go full Power Draw 10.
fun. When I find myself back in Calradia may just have a ball with it. Last game I did immediate containment on Dark Knights and the Ming Empire of Suvarnabhumi Mahayuth is not exceptionally more powerful than the standard factions.

Never ever again. Besides you can't get renown as a soldier. The only real advantage to being freelancer over simply stalking a Lord on the field is the ability to AFK for in-game days (sometimes weeks...) and that it screws the looting table in your favor.

In the Nova Aetas mod there's this mini quest to find the sword of king Haralus but I can't seem to find it, I can't make any sense of the riddle.
Did they remove the sword in the update or? I'm using the Steam version, if that helps.

Go to the ruins of... I dunno. Praven or Suno.
Outside the city, there's a grassy hill near the river. There's a weird crack in the ground hidden by the the grass. That's where the sword is hidden.
You can always cheat and turn graphic settings to the lowest.
The game won't draw any grass so you can see that crack in the ground from half the map away.
If you want more options, you might as well lift The Gathering Storm's magic system out of the source and stuff it in Tocan.
You can freeze people in place and then throw an earthquake on their ass for maximum combo damage.
It's right behind the statue. There's a small mound and the sword is stuck in the ground slightly behind it.
Also about Warphilia:
When I've tried using it, only the very first town has anything in its market. Then if I go to any other town, its either stuff that should be in the Trading Post, or it simply doesn't have anything. What the heck?

I just got done with finally "beating" the game for the first time in Diplomacy. Now I'm looking for something new. I'm up for any recommendations that aren't Prophecy of Pendor (I've heard about that one and it seems like shit). I don't care if it is medieval setting or not, and I'm also not looking for a game to jerk off to, just one that is fun to play.
Also, is Viking Conquest worth it?

Honestly PoP is good and it's arguably one of the most polished mods, but it definitely is not for everyone. You could try, say, 1257

It isn't. The start is a bit harder but it isn't as hard as people claim it is, similarly to like Dark Souls.

Dark Souls has a steep learning curve.
PoP doesn't have a learning curve. It just has a grindwall.
If you change all your proficiencies to 100 and give yourself 10000 denars, you'll quickly realise that PoP is just a load of fucking bullshit.
The only good thing about PoP are the insane Chinese unofficial fanmods.

The rush of winning a nearly-unwinnable battle, the excitement of getting the fuck into a castle before some bandits fuck you over... that stuff is only available with some difficulty.
Also, turning off cheating helps.

POP isn't even necessarily more grindy than Native when you consider that it is actually easier to form your own kingdom than Native Warband. Noldor are very easy to turn into free godly patrols and pre-Warband recruitment is far more lenient than Native Warband's lord recruitment... Which is further helped by Prison Management being godly in Warband.
The only "grindwall" is for idiots that are too dumb to not smash their heads against things like Rogue Knights or minor faction armies then whine rather than adapt.

POP was designed before player kingdoms were a standard feature, so they implemented a stand-alone lord recruitment system that is as basic as this:

>Is your relations >=30 (or 40? Can't recall)
>100% recruitment chance
When you combine that Prison Management boosts lord capture rate it becomes extremely easy to hit this relationship level with honorable lords... Which are the lords you want anyways.

POP really is Saxondragon's little powerfantasy and you can only have a comfortable time when you stick to the path laid before you by Saxondragon.

That and you simply level much more rapidly due to bloated troop levels. Troop levels != Troop effectiveness. Berserker style enemies especially; due to lacking armor, are easy to farm experience from. You can easily gain ~10 levels in a defensive siege by just camping a ladder.
When you combine how great Mercenaries are; Barclay mercenaries especially, there isn't even an excuse to be competent on the field. Especially when you can rescue prisoners to immediately boost your army.

All I ever play is infantry (or infantry focused) armies m8. Best Mercs for their buck are infantry (Barclay and Highlanders). All factions save Ravenstern and player faction (Pendor) lack any mounted units unless you use noble troops... And Non-Custom Knight Order troops are overrated as fuck.
If anything the opposite is true as POP was; and still remains, one of the few mods that doesn't feel an irrational need to nerf Infantry only Polearms to hell and back.
? I was talking about Infantry armies in that post m8. Mercs are a great way to start the game due to maximizing loot and map speed (due to small troop numbers and near invulnerability to weaker bandits) but that isn't the only way to play.
Just a few weeks/months a Ravenerstern player whom was arguing that starting with Mercs was overrated. While I prefer Merc play; and do believe Merc play is more optimal, he showed that starting with peasant troops is perfectly viable.
All of these objections really seem to moving towards GIT GUD at this point.

You can easily make a good peasant army out of the likes of Ravenstern Rangers, D'Shar Bladesmen and Empire Legionnaires early on since they upgrade directly from level 15/20 to 40.

items are categorized on faction based on what culture they're from, ie sarranid weapons are bought in the sarranid towns, swadian style weapons are bought in the swadian towns
troops are divided into logical troop trees, like spearmen, archers, crossbowmen, guisarmes etc
some factions do certain units better than others, and some factions have specialty units
some factions got more diverse troops in order to increase their potential (ie vaegirs got a lot of extra troops because they're pretty shit in native) which are all based off of historical troops
armor was tiered, weapons were rebalanced, lots of new weapons and weapon types (slings, which the sarranids use)

Oi lads, help me out here. I want to get a nice long list of suitable names for each Native faction, but I don't really know jack shit about history or cultures. My understanding ends around "Nords are vikings and Sarranids are sandniggers". What cultures should I be going for with each? And if anybody could actually link some lists of culture specific names that'd be great. I've got Nords covered and that's about it.
nords are vikings/scandinavians that were sea raiders but settled
swadians are a french/hre archetype which took over the main region of the calradic empire
rhodoks broke off of the swadian empire and formed their own faction, they're based off of italian/swiss archetypes
khergits are turkic/mongol typical horse archer faction
vaegirs are slavic/baltic archetypes that come from the snowy mountains
sarranids are sassanid empire/mamluke sultanate archetype that come from the desert
if you want to make names just look at the names of the lords of each faction
Rhodox Italian greek
Swadian French English
Khagerit Mongolian Tatar
Does tocan's calradia have a habit of long peace? Swadia has been at peace with all nations for two months now, am worried.

Vaegirs despite their rep are OK. Marksmen are competitive for best top-tier missile unit in the game. Only Rhodok Sharpshooter competes, and that is primarily due to versatility and ammo efficiency in long battles.
Vaegir guard are OK but you cannot use them as a hold position shield wall. Need to treat them as offensive units -- Use your Knights to distract missile units while your guards advance.
Due to superior fire rate of Marksmen may even just want to have them at the front and exchange fire when starting combat, giving Guardsmen charge order once enemy infantry start getting dangerously close -- Or placing them in close formation immediately if the AI is charging you with Cavalry from the beginning.

This is the umpteenth time i've heard this, and I've only played as a vassel. What are the benefits? Is it quicker/easier to transition to your own kingdom from a merc? I kind of enjoy fighting for someone and slowly taking over for them, I know mercs can keep the factions balanced. Should I also be letting lords go? Is long term honor/rep gains worth more than short term money?

Aside from RTR this is really the main advantage... Which isn't a small thing if you intend to create your own faction.
But for this particular suggestion bigger emphasis was just using Mercenary experience as a means of getting a feel for all the factions before dedicating yourself to one. Mercenary play offers best opportunity to try out all the factions... Otherwise you are just following the "advice" of random anons like a lemming.

I'm having the opposite issue: Joined this faction as a Merc and; 40-50 days later, the asshole king has refused a peace treaty. If anything he is now getting ambitious.
Planning to just sit out the next 10 or so days so he can suffer.
