Basic primer: Pendulum cards are monsters that can be played as spells in the pendulum zones, if they would go from field to grave, they go to extra instead. You can special summon any number of monsters from your hand or face up from your extra deck who's levels are between the pendulum scales. A scale 1-8 lets you summon any number of level 2-7 monsters.
Also note, it's only if it would go from field to grave. Anywhere else, they can go to grave fine.
