Pre-reboot characters are blocked by lawsuit
Post-reboot characters won't be used because the comic is cancelled and they gave the rights to IDW instead

Scourge was an interesting character because he became self-aware that he was literally just "Green Evil Sonic" and it drove him insane that literally the only reason he was the way he was, was because he was just Sonic's evil double. So his character of trying desperately to distance himself from Sonic and become his own man, while still falling into such obvious trappings that his identity is based on nothing but Sonic's was neat.
Then he got retconned out of existence.

As someone who picked up the series' comics 160-200 then went back and read the rest online, I don't think its a good idea. Villains from the comics would be cool though.

Antithesis to normal Sonic. The comics pointed out that if Sonic were to have a really bad day, he'd be just like Scourge, whereas if Scourge were to have a good day, he'd be like Sonic.
To piggyback off of >>390145363, when he first appeared, he looked exactly like Sonic but with black glasses and a black coat and was literally called Anti-Sonic, or something rather. But then later something goes down between him and an echidna (thus the scars) and the emerald(s) giving him his inverted colors (Sonic's green eyes = his green fur, Sonic's blue fur = his blue eyes). He was completely differentiated from Sonic now in terms of looks and he adopted the name Scourge.

Also, where as Sonic is confident and doesn't let anything phase him, Scourge is basically a gigantic fucking chip on his shoulder and constantly paranoid of being seen as weak or dependent.

Just to clarify I do mean certain concepts and maybe characters inspired by ones in the comics. I am not suggesting any direct copies. My reasoning for this is because of the IDW swap. Some examples of what I mean are the darker storytelling and maybe characters like Scourge. Involving a society like the Mobians would be interesting to me as well. Lastly I appreciate how Forces is using Eggman's dominance over most of the world just like in the comics.

It's funny, when Ian was co-commenting on the Platformania Sonic Colours stream, he mentioned (since they were talking about Forces and who might be coming back) that way back when he asked Sega if they wanted him to use Mephiles in the comic, the response was a flat "No. Mephiles is dead."

For what it's worth, I like his design, and powers on paper. If they actually put effort in a side-game for him, they could make something rather impressive.

Pretty much, except Silver who they've decided is still a character (which is fine, Silver is fun when people remember he's Trunks) Sonic 06 Doesn't Exist for Sega. Except that one level in Generations.

It was rebooted post lawsuit, The comics were being made until Sega decided to pull the license and go to IDW. Now we don't know if we're getting a full continuity reboot (Most likely) a full creative time wipe (Maybe? Though Flynn has been Knowing Smiling his way these days) or even what kind of book it'll be.
