I like how open Final Rush is so open but it's mostly just grinding. Green Forest and Metal Harbor are top tier though

Top 3 levels are easily green forest, white jungle, and final rush. Runner ups are radical highway and sky rail. Metal harbor and city escape are only decent, to many collision problems due to level geometry

I never had a problem with any of the mech levels and could A rank all of them back in the day. I absolutely hated the treasure stages though especially Meteor Herd and Mad Space

I know it hasn't aged well but this thread makes me want to play SA2 again. Which version should I play besides Dreamcast because I don't own one and I know Dreamcast emulators aren't the best.

I like them too. You just need a feel for the controls at first and then it's fine, little sluggish compared to E-102.

The hero story seems to have a better balance of levels than the dark story

In dark story, you almost exclusively play Eggman levels for the first half of the game with one Shadow
Then you almost exclusively play Rouge levels for the second half of the game

Played Hero side first until I saw Shadow and then went back to the menu and picked dark side to play as Shadow.

Hero side is more fun in my opinion.
I miss the dreamcast version being able to take chaos on your VMU and play with them like tamagachis.
